Rated 5 out of 5 by Southcoastphil Bombproof!
I bought a pair of these two months ago. Since then, I've worn them 2 to 5 times a week fishing for stripers, blues, albies, etc. along MA and RI beaches, jetties and boulder fields.
I love the many secure pockets which I use for everything from a camera to a phone, pliers, tackle and more.
They dry out in almost no time at all.
Oh, yes, bombproof: I'm often scrambling and sliding over rocks and boulders and I remain amazed that, even with all of that abrasive abuse, I haven't worn any holes in them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by beeen Good but not for canoeing
I like these shorts for their intended purpose. You can stow a mobile phone easily and carry needlenose pliers at the ready pretty well. The ruggedized pocket entry is good for wet, dirty hands. Comfortable, quick drying, and handsome enough.
One flaw is that the front hand pockets bow out when sitting, so when canoeing, they catch on the ends of your oars. That would be a quibble generally, but a more serious issue for "technical" attire.

Best shorts I've ever owned! Have 2 pairs and am buying a 3rd. Love the giant zippered pockets. I can throw in all kinds of things including phone, camera, GPS, fly boxes, etc. and comfortably hike long distances and not worry about anything falling out of the pockets. Hope they never discontinue these!

These pants look good and feel good. The built in belt is another story altogether. It isn't really a belt, per se. It is an adjustable thin strap that goes half way around the waist and then through a sewed on plastic buckle, then the end of the strap Velcros back against the strap itself. It is more of a cinch strap than anything else. The strap is not very strong. The Velcro is a weak point. After two washing's the hook and loop fastener end came off in the wash. Without sewing it back on the strap/belt it is no longer serviceable. The shorts do still have a belt loop system so all is not lost.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ChildoftheSixties Worth the price
These are expensive, but really well-designed and nice fabric. I ordered one not sure if it would be a good value, and then ordered a second as soon as I tried on the first pair.

Rated 4 out of 5 by CVM1 Very Nice but waist size is off.
Very nice shorts. Super quality and nice pocket options. I wear a size 33-34. Bought the size 34-35 and they are a bit snug at the waist. My other shorts this size are too large. Returning them for a 36.

I had my eye on these for quite some time. I couldn't really justify the price at first so I waited until I had a discount to snatch them up.
These fit great and I love the function. I'm a big fan of the double front pockets.. I can stash my keys and wallet in the zipped pockets so they don't fall out and my cell phone in the open pockets for quick access. The adjustable straps are much more comfortable than a belt, in my opinion, since they give a little.
These shorts breath well and dry quickly but are pretty rugged too so I know they will last. Perfect for Fishing, Hiking, Kayaking, Travel, etc.
I'll definitely be picking up another pair.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Terndrew Best Travel Shorts for Carrying Currency
I loved having these shorts during a recent trip to the Philippines (Oct 2015). There are SIX zippered pockets (two in back, two down by the legs, and two by the front upper open pockets) and an additional two (hidden front pockets) that seal closed with Velcro above (and behind) the zippered leg pockets. It truly made having to carry a lot of Philippine pesos much easier to conceal and I wasn't always having to pull my wallet out all of the time and thumbing through my cash in plain sight when purchasing something (and it was nice to have my wallet in a zippered front pocket too.) It was so easy to pull out a few Php 50 or 100 (which are used constantly) out of one of the small Velcro pockets when making a purchase. I never had any problems through 3 weeks of travel there. Oh and the shorts held up beautifully..

Rated 5 out of 5 by MoreTime You get what you pay for.
I was very hesitant to purchase these shorts. They are expensive compared to other options I found. But, I have never had a poor experience with LL Bean so I stepped out and leveraged my budget.
I have worn these shorts almost every day since I purchased them in the spring. I fished, hiked and waded in the river with them and they have endured my abuse. I washed them in between adventures but put them back to work immediately there after. We'll see how they hold up the rest of the summer but I am very pleased thus far. My favorite feature is the belt and waste adjustment of the shorts. I prefer this set up to the draw string or belt so many other water active shorts have.
I would like another pair but my budget won't allow it just yet.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Gopher04 Beware of LL Bean Branding
Since when did LL Bean start branding the outside of their garments so heavily?!? I have really enjoyed LL Bean products over the years but everything I buy lately makes me feel like a walking advertisement. Shorts are over priced. Came with a big snag in the material. Now I will have to deal with the hassel of the return process.
