Rated 3 out of 5 by oldmarine Acceptable, but no longer GREAT
It's good that LLB keeps trying to make things even better. Sometimes, the best efforts go South... happens to us all.
In this case, I bought first pair a few months ago, liked them so well I wanted a backup pair for after the first wear out (not my usual practice, but these were so good!)
They didn't have the "new and improved" straps in the rear.
The backup pair was disappointing, and the older design is more comfortable.
Bottom line, the Explorer Sandal went from "GREAT" to "acceptable, but not GREAT".
If you'll return to the old style, I'll quickly buy enough to last the rest of my life, as the old ones are totally ideal!
Nevertheless, I'm keeping the new in the box, in case something happens to my old ones.
Yes, I'd recommend them to a friend, but with less enthusiasm.

Rated 2 out of 5 by SWK52 Disappointed with "Improvements"
I have purchased several pairs of these excellent sandles over the past few years. Great fit and breatheability made them the most comfortable shoes I owned. I am dismayed at the recent "improved" design, however. The new hook and loop rear strap is stiffer, less flexible and consequently much less comfortable than the former model. The area under the metal guide for the strap digs into my foot. Ironically, the mechanics of the adjustable strap make it more frustrating to adjust. I returned the new and improved sandles. When I got online to print a shipping label, I discovered that many other customers dislike the new design. LLBean, please bring back the late, great Explorer sandle!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Quincy72 Over a year and still going!
OK, I've now owned these sandals for about seven months and I've got to say that I love them! I've worn them everywhere, even in the French Alps and they're still in GREAT shape. In fact, I'm wearing them right now. I've walked on beaches, in rivers and lakes with these with absolutely no problems. With the sole exception of my hikers, my explorer sandals are the only things I wear on my feet in the Summer. And, they just get better looking with age. I couldn't be more pleased.

Rated 1 out of 5 by parviz Explorer Sandal II- Not recommended
I purchased a pair of Explorer Sandal II less than 2 months ago . This was a replacement for a pair of Teva which i had used for over 2 years. The insole of the Teva had become too rigid and it was time for a replacement.
I am very disappointed with my new purchase. Ihave used the Explorer since i purchased it occasionally. Almost all the seams are breaking apart. The leather is holding, but all the cloth covering is peeling off. I expected much more from an L.L.Bean brand. It is certainly not living to my expectation and i think at the end of this season i should bid farewell to it.
Don't buy it! Buy a pair of Teva instead!

I thought I was getting the same quality sandal that I purchased over a year ago. Within 3 times of wearing these new one's stitching came apart at rear strap. Had to send them back. Very disappointed!!

I love these sandals. they`re nice and comfortable. I`ve been wanting a pair & I`m glad I got these. maybe I `ll get another pair next year. they`re alittle on the big side( my fault. feet must be shrinking).

But not as like able as previous years model as this year has adjustable Velcro strap. I preferred the full strap but still a very good sandal.

These are super comfortable Sandals. They seem durable, and look like new after a month of use. Thanks LL Bean.
