I bought my bag over a year ago for camping & traveling. This bag has exceeded my expectations & is my favorite go to bag for most outdoor excursions. I love that there are so many pockets & a place for my pen, credit cards, camera, water bottle, wallet, sun glasses (& husband's) & so much more! I found the cross strap to be very comfortable & it can be adjusted as needed. I did read some of the negative reviews & was somewhat surprised, not sure if there bags were defective but mine is sure a winner! Way to go LL Bean!

I really love this bag! It's able to be a huge purse/bag and holds tons...or empty it for a regular size purse. You will be amazed at how much you can carry in it! Also could make a perfect diaper bag. Mesh side pocket holds medium to large drink bottle, 20 oz is the ideal size. My only negative is that when you load it up (and it's easy to do), it does get heavy and strap can cut into shoulder and be tough on the back after a few hours... My son thinks I carry bricks in it! : )

I have to carry a LOT of items, particularly for safety (3 boxes of Epi-Pens, benedryl, inhalers, etc.), plus nooks for the kids, cell phone, personal items, calendars, etc. I didn't think it would hold enough stuff, but it does. It holds everything, plus water bottles, clothes, and more. It doesn't look like it, especially at first glance, but this little bag really pulls through and is tough. My two sons drag it around, sit on it, toss it--it goes through the ringer. Because of all our health issues, I can average 4-5 grocery stores a week, plus doctor appts., and everything else. I have to say this is a great bag.

I really wanted to love this bag. Without anything in it it is lightweight and looks great/attractive. I was able to load it up with travel wallet, kindle, 7in tablet, notebook, phone, ipod, noise cancelling head phone, travel pillow (blow up), snacks & water bottle. However, once full it bulges and strap dug into my shoulder. I did not find the pockets particularly functional -- having only velcrow for the section with cards was a worry while travelling and so I did not use it. Instead I found that section tended to collect beach sand, crumbs and other debris that I encountered during travel because it was essentially "open" even with the flap cover closed. The flap pocket is virtually unusable because it it causes additional bulging which it hard to open and close. My cat was also rather fond of the rubberized zipper pulls and chewed them all off -- zippers cannot be used well without pulls which was a problem for me. The grey (a very light grey) was resistant to dirt but not to picking up die from other clothing near it -- the back of the bag was stained by my black jeans from rubbing against my leg when I was walking, and I cannot find a way to remove it. I think if you are looking for a small messenger bag for light duty use -- this will work. However, being a huge fan of LLBean bags -- I tend to put mine through the paces and this one fell short of what I needed and so I'm still looking for a medium sized bag to use as a travel carry-on.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Sasi The first time I am unhappy with my purchase
I brought this messenger bag for my husband, hoping it will be as strong as the one I brought years ago. This bag has poor shoulder straps and is very hard to carry. I brought a bag for my husband 10years age from LL bean which is still good. It is old and I wanted to replace it and I get this new bag and it is the worst thing i have ever brought from LL Bean. Please replace these bags and come up with the messenger bags similar to the one you were selling 10 years ago. I wouldnot mind paying the extra money for a nicer bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Elfkin Carryall Messenger Bag Exceeded Expectations
I purchased this bag for a long weekend trip to Chicago. The Marina Teal was more greenish than I expected but that wasn't a problem since it's a beautiful rich color. The outside material is ripstop polyester which is a very strong and lightweight material; the cross body strap is adjustable and well made; the handle loop is a nice feature and came in handy; the front clip is easy to use and secures the flap well. During travel, I was able to comfortably fit my Dell XPS tablet (in its sleeve) and charger, MP3 player and charger, two pairs of glasses, ticket, boarding pass, my personal stuff like hand cleaner, lip gloss, small hair brush etc, snacks and water. LL Bean, please keep up the high quality and reasonable prices. A+

Casual Carryall Messenger Bag lives up to its name. I picked a silvery lilac color that goes with everything. It is a joy to be able
to have so many different compartments to organize and make ready what I need in a second. Although I am a senior, I still attend classes in a northern suburb of Chicago. My messenger bag helps me to keep track of the materials needed for class as well as my

Rated 5 out of 5 by mdtz Everything I could wish for
Have been looking for a stylish bag, large enough (but not gigantic) to carry a windbreaker, umbrella, plus all those other necessities for a day of touring!! And with lots of zippered compartments items needing security were just that: "secure". Only downer.....found it difficult to insert a water bottle into it's "sleeve"....top of sleeve could be a scant larger or more elastic. All in all.....great value....thank you!

This messenger bag has lots of pockets which I like. The only thing that I didn't like is the handle. It twisted easily and I am constantly trying to get it flat again. Trying to decide if I should send it back or not.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Midwest2Northwest Nearly perfect everyday bag for moms or travel.
When I saw this bag at the LLBean store I couldn't resist. I have been searching high and low for a bag like this. It is highly functional and versatile. That being said, its probably not for everyone.
I used to work for a well-known bag company and I have also had my own business making handbags so I know my product. I was on my way to creating what I wanted but truthfully I couldn't make a bag like this for this price and I couldn't buy one either because I coudn't find one--until now!
I am a mom of a toddler and have graduated past the diaper bag but I still need a highly functional, practical bag with multiple pockets that will hold my wallet and personal items, a couple diapers and some snacks plus at least one if not two spots for a water bottle. You wouldn't believe how hard that is to find!
I wanted a bag that was smaller than a diaper bag, bigger than a purse I might have used before I became a mom, but not huge. I wanted it to look more like a purse and less like a utility bag. I think this fits the bill pretty well.
- 2 side/outside water bottle pockets. One of these pockets zips shut so you could use it for your phone or a sippy cup or something else?!
- Small front flap zip pocket - another great place for your phone and most used essentials like lip balm, etc..
- Inside smaller zip compartment- Since this is the only "small" inside zip compartment this is the best place for your wallet and smaller items you don't want to spill out. Although its big for a wallet.
-Inside main compartment that zips. This is essential for all the larger items and multiple items and of course its helpful that it zips.
- Back velcro slot/pocket. This is a nice bonus. A great place for things you want to get at really quick like a boarding pass, newspaper, magazine, journal or snacks. As with all pockets like this I wouldn't put anything in it I cared a ton about.
-Colors are good. I got the teal green. I think basic black and other neutrals are always nice to have and then rotate different colors.
Features that could use improvement:
- Inside the main compartment there should be a small zipper pocket on either front or back.
- The inside front velcro pocket that has all the spots for credit cards, and a phone does not function well. The phone holder is too small for some smart phones, there is no small zipper pouch for change, but most of all it is hard to velcro the pocket shut because the spot where its supposed close is where there is a pen slot and the pen gets in the way. Also, I agree with another reviewer that said this is logically where you would want to put your wallet but since it does not zip shut it seems less safe than the inside zip pocket. So in short- wish this zipped shut.
- I bet it would fit an ipad and it will certainly hold a ipad mini or a Kindle but the inside smaller zip pocket does not fit my 11" Macbook air. It only fits in the outside back velcro pocket or the inside main zip compartment. Even if it was a tight fit it would be nice if it fit in a zipper (better yet-padded) pocket. I only carry my computer when I travel so its not a huge deal.
-Not crazy about the LLBEAN logo on the front as it kind of takes away from the nice floral design. That's just a personal technical point.
Overall, well-done LLBEAN! If you are researching reviews for future designs, please consider urban moms with snacks, liquids and electronic devices and maybe a diaper. We need to carry it all without spilling juice on our ipads or having cheddar bunnies crushed on our wallet. And still have it look nice and not spend a fortune. That's kind of a tall order but you've come close!
