Rated 3 out of 5 by SRDakota Pretty good but needs work
I just received these (Misses, 4) and they fit nicely (I normally wear petite sizes). I'm 63 and with a slightly larger waist, proportionately to my hips and thighs, so I like being able to leave the top button undone and just tie the drawstring. I also like the length because I like the additional coverage (I'm past the age point where I should show off my bare thighs, even though I only weigh 106).
However, I think the width of the legs are too wide, making them seem like, as one person remarked, like "mom pants" and/or almost cargo culottes, which make them look unstylish and a bit clunky. I also would like deeper pockets to better secure my iphone.

I have these in light almond, khaki, mint, and dark olive. I just ordered another khaki and light moss. I love these shorts and wear them all the time since purchasing them. Please bring these back in other colors. Another LLBean quality product.

There is nothing positive I can say about these shorts. There is something called "mom jeans". You know what I mean when I say that. These should be called "mom shorts". Awful. Just awful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Nimbl Best shorts ever
I love that I can order from L.L. Bean and whatever it is will usually fit! These shorts are so comfortable. They do not sag in the crotch, the waist is snug, but not too tight, and the pockets don't pucker. The length falls just above my knees. I wish the cargo pocket was a little deeper so that my cell phone could be buttoned in, but other than that, these shorts are perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MarinaMama Perfect, except pockets too small
Just got 'em and they fit me great. Size 8 hits 3 inches above my knee (wish they were longer), and the waist and hips fit perfectly. I'm 5'4'' and weigh 125ish, with not much of a waist so I'll probably remove the drawstring. I do wish the cargo pockets and rear pockets were bigger and that the front pockets were deeper. My iPhone 5C in nonbulky case doesn't fit in either one. But keys can go in a cargo pocket and a ziplock "wallet" can go in one too, or in a rear pocket. I'm keeping the shorts inspite of the small pockets because they were a good buy on the two-a-day and they're a really nice cut and fabric. Even though I don't like to show my 71-year-old wrinkly knees, I will wear these in a heat wave.

Rated 3 out of 5 by MEvacationer Great fit -- but . . . phone problems
These are very well made, great fit and don't ride up. However -- my phone falls out of the slash side pockets because they are too shallow and the button pockets are too small for my Android phone. Very disappointing and a real design flaw.

Ordered the size 8. I have 4 pair of courd cargo pants in the 8. Am 5'4", 135 LBS. Yes, in mid 60, am slightly apple shaped. The waist was perfect but very baggy in the seat. The profile put lbs on my look. Loved material, length and colors, pink beige and indigo. Would try the size 6, but the colors I want are not available and the waist would probably be too tight anyway. Will return.

Rated 5 out of 5 by CoolChick Love these shorts`
So happy to see these on 2 a day sale today..only wish they had indigo in my size, but I bought more! These are perfect in length and leg opening and fit true to size. Even being a petite these fit appropriately. Not all of us want to be wearing the daisy dukes. They keep their neat appearance while being very comfortable. Don't listen to the negative nellie with the comment about 12 year old boys or grandpa.. Shorts are difficult for most of us -these are just about perfect. Don't stop making these llbean!

Rated 5 out of 5 by WeeluvLLbean My new favorites
I bought a pair of the shorts after I tried a pair of the Southport Cargo Pants that I immediately fell in love with. The fabric is of good weight and slightly "peached". While these don't come in the petite sizing that I ordered for the pants, the length was still good on my 5'3" frame. It looks like it'd be difficult to make the shorts much shorter and have the cargo pockets be more than decoration. These are functional. The size 6 that I ordered has an inseam of 8 and 3/4" and hits me 1 inch ABOVE my knee. I will order more when the weather warms back up. The one observation is that the pants in the same size seem a bit looser overall.

Rated 3 out of 5 by DivineMissM Too long. Hits mid-knee.
I loved everything about these shorts except for the length and the drawstring.
What I loved: The construction was well executed. LOVED all the extra pockets -- I don't always want to carry a purse, and these would have done nicely. Good weight to fabric which would have worked well summer and into the fall.
What I hated: The length! I based my purchased on how the shorts looked on the model. They hit her well above the knee, which is what I wanted. I'm almost 5'9" with fairly long legs and the shorts hit just below the top of my knee -- a good look for a teenage boy or Grandpa at the shore, but not for me. The drawstring is ridiculous. It's not strong enough for such heavy fabric and gets in the way of a clean look. (I also had visions of it getting knotted while I frantically needed to visit the restroom!) Had I kept my purchase, I would have removed the string.
Sizing: While some reviewers found they run large, I found just the opposite. The waist was a good inch smaller than other LL Bean shorts I have in the same size. I ordered two sizes to hedge my bets, and like another reviewer, found almost no difference between the two.
I liked the shorts enough that I considered re-hemming them, but realized due to the thickness of the fabric, this couldn't be done by hand.
There is much to like about these shorts, and I hope my review will help others decide if they will work for them. Sadly, they didn't for me, and will have to be returned.
