I'm 5'7" and 165 pounds with bit of tummy that makes it hard to find button pants that are comfortable. 14 regular fits perfect. The length is good and long enough to stuff into a boot and/or you can button them up for a cropped look. The colors are true. They do not shrink after a wash, They are soft but seem durable for spring and summer hikes. cargo pockets are generous. Side pockets are a bit shallow. Looks good with a tunic length shirt or a long Tee.

Rated 4 out of 5 by ComfyTraveller Comfortable but disappointing details
I purchased these in two colors (plum and navy night) to wear on a trip to Scotland. I was looking for something heavier than convertible pants, but just as comfortable for travelling. These are comfortable and will be great on the plane. Some of the detailing is disappointing, though. Firstly all 7 buttons on both pairs are 1/8" thick, wide, and light bone colored (and lack the LLBean imprint). When clicking on the color changing images on the website, it leads you to believe the buttons match the pants ... nope! Instead they visually stand out unpleasantly, especially on the sides of the pants where the rolled up cuff button is placed. It made me feel like I was going to be videotaped for motion studies. Unlike other LLBean pants where the back pocket button is smaller than the waist button, these buttons are as large (and thick) as the waist button and would be uncomfortable to sit against if one were leaning on a hard surface. These pants are made in India. The construction is solid and they are well sewn, but the side leg seams shrunk a tiny bit on first washing, leaving a little bit of puckering such as is seen when the thread shrinks. The front slash pockets are shallow (2-5/8" along the side seam; I'd never put my cell phone or keys in there for fear of them falling out easily. A deeper pocket would have been more welcome, especially as a traveler and hiker. Finally, the colors are not deep and rich; they are more like 'previously washed'. The Navy Night was a dull blue, not a dark navy, and will be returned. I've replaced all of the bright beige buttons on the plum pants because I do like the fit, but I truly wish they had matched and were of the same quality as prior LLBean pants that I've purchased. I'm 5'4, 128 pounds, in my 60's and the size 12 fit great. I often have to decide between petite and regular; the regular was a good fit.

I don't buy clothes on line but took a chance with these - I am a little bit pear shaped and can be disappointed often with how pants grab around my thighs or gape at the waist. I pulled the size 10's on I ordered after measuring myself and looking at the chart, and they just fit perfectly. Wow. I am 5ft 6" and currently weigh around 150lb. The regular inseam is perfect, not dragging but not short (I am about 30.5") - very happy with the pants. I got them in pink, tempted to get another pair in another colour!

I purchased these in 18, which is my usual size. They fit very nicely, a bit more loose than the 1912 jeans which I also purchased (and also love), but comfy-loose, not sloppy-loose. They also look quite nice! I'm a very happy person today.

I like the feel of these cargo pants. BUT, the petite size length is definitely NOT for those 5'3" and shorter. I had to shorten these pants over an inch. I like the drawstring, too, so the back of the waist band doesn't gap.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Jetlaya67 Super comfortable!
Just got my pants in the mail today. I tried them on to see how they fit and they are very nice. I wear a size 2 (110 lbs, 5'2"). The pants are a little on the loose side but thanks to the tie string it accommodated my waist size. They are a nice change from my "uniform" of skinny jeans and boot cut jeans. I ordered the regular length and it is a bit long, but a petite would have been too short. I can't wait to wash them and see how they hold up. So far, I am very pleased!

Rated 4 out of 5 by JET1973 More For The Office Than Hiking Outdoors
I bought these pants for a trip to Europe this summer and for outdoor activities, like hiking. When I got them, just now, I found that they are made of a thicker material than other cargo pants I bought from LLBean. Although they are cargo pants they have a more "formal" look to them. One of the reasons for this formal look, I think, is that I bought them in dark plum. It's not a hippy, outdoorsy plum but rather a color you would see on bridesmaids in a Fall wedding. Overall, they are a nice pair of pants. They are on the loose side. I will wear them to work.

These pants have some give to them so order the next size down. Happy dance, right?! I like the give. It makes them more livable for all day. The fit is very nice. Looks feminine while being useful. They might come out of the dryer a bit tight but they loosen up as the day goes on. I also ordered the med tall inseam. I like mine long. I'm 5'7". They sit at the waist. I'm very very happy with these.

I have a pair of Southport pants in every color. They are perfect for walking the dogs and competing in dog sports. The cargo pockets hold what I need without having to carry a purse. There is plenty of space for treats, pick-up bags, my phone, car keys, etc.
My only concern is that in the newest pairs, summer - fall 2014, the front pockets are more shallow. I always have a chapstick in my pocket and lately it has been falling out. I measured the depth of the pockets compared to previous years and they have lost about 1". I am hoping this is a manufacturing defect and not a permanent change!
LL Bean: I would LOVE to see these pants in black! And white or ivory for summer.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Alex721 these do NOT sit low on the waist
LL Bean must have a different definition of "sits lower on the waist" than I do, because these definitely sit ON my waist. From the description I was expecting something more of a hiphugger. The pants fit through my hips and thighs, but are tight on my waist. The fabric is quite nice--smooth and soft. I would have really liked these had they actually sat "lower on the waist."
