while fighting stipers, the original rod snapped 3" above the ferrule on the second section from the top. Returned rod and was given a full refund. Purchased the exact rod again (newer model with blue sections) and it broke in the exact same place as the first rod on the first fish I cast to and hooked.

by Tclemm Rod snapped with a 7-10 lb red salmon on
Had rod for about one year, and used previously for salt water bay fishing. Last week, 3 rd piece broke into 3 places while landing a 7-10 lb red salmon in the Kenai River in Alaska. We landed the fish despite the rod breaking. Not sure about the long term durabiltiy of this rod. Plan to return for repair/replacement. Otherwise was happy with the rod, and ability to pack in a suitcase.

So, I'm down in Bonita Springs, Fla. with my brand new travel rod and it broke after a few casts.
Second guide ring/insert came loose and dangled on my braided fishing line and the line was rubbing against bare metal.
It is just unacceptable from a very good quality company which I have trusted for so many years. I had to purchase a crazy glue to affix the insert back into place so I can try it again tomorrow.
Hoping to get a working replacement when I get back home in NJ.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Trwbean Nice case!!
I was quite surprised that the pole comes with such a nice padded, travel case that is internally separated into 4 sections for the pieces. The description and photos did not represent this at all. I thought it was a little more than I wanted to spend for the pole, but the added case makes the cost well worth it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by HalfHitchTroutman Robust Travel Rod
I was looking for a light wt spinning rod that would fit in standard luggage. I have not used the rod yet so my impressions might not be accurate. This rod is rather robust and can be used to toss some fairly heavy freshwater hardware and large fish; however, I was looking for something with a lighter fit and finish to toss small spinners in tight quarters....the rod description indicates that I will be able to do this but I have my doubts.

I bought three of these rods. one for a friend, one for my son and one for my youngest daughter.
they are great for travel as they pack in my bag when I fly around Cape York Queensland for work and want to throw a line in of an afternoon.
just returned and caught a few Barramundi about a meter long, it did the job. I use the LLBean spin reels they complement the set-up just fine, great value for money!

For the $$$ this is a great rod. I have the heavy wt. model and it worked great on a recent Florida trip. I caught numerous Snook and Sea trout with no issue. Worked great for pulling 26" to 30" Snook from underneath a dock. With 1.5oz. lures and braid line I could cast a mile off the beach. Even caught a a 4ft Black Tip Shark from the beach using it. After assembling the sections they did not move after many hours of use. Also... The Rod case is top notch and will hold more than 1 rod. I am going to buy at least 1 more.

by pailor97 great rod
I originally got this rod to take on vacation with me. I liked it so much it's now my go to rod. I have the 8-17lb rod. I regularly fish the Chesapeake Bay. Today I caught a bunch of slot sized reds and stripers. It handled them with no problem. It casts very well and has good flex for fighting smaller and medium sized fish. I even hooked into a large ray and it handled it really well. I've spend several days casting it and the joints have held really well. No adjustments needed. I have it paired with a 4000 series reel with 20 lb braid. I'm very pleased with this rod.

Rated 2 out of 5 by UtahFisherman Not for steel leader or linkers
I bought one of these poles for a fly in fishing trip for Northern Pike in Canada. It was on sale so I persuaded my brother and his son to purchase one as well. All three of us had problems with the tip. Two tips had the liner on the end eye split and come out so it was just bare metal. We could still fish but the line would shred. The tip on the third pole broke as we were landing a good sized Northern. It is a good, light, and easily transported pole but beware if you plan to use steel leader or are looking for lunkers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by BrooklynFisherman The best overall travel rods out there
I own 14 4-piece travel rods. These LLBean's ones are the best all-around travel rods out there. They are very sensitive and the heaviest version (10-22) is amazing for any inshore fishing. It casts heavier poppers and bait up to about 2 oz a country mile into the ocean. Acts just like one piece and better than some surf rods. Definitely fast action and sensitive rod. If you fish saltwater, the heavy model is a no-brainer. The medium one is excellent all-around rod for some light salt water and fresh water. It is fast to medium-fast and handles very light lures to ones over an ounce very well. I haven't tried the lightest model. Overall, excellent quality and the best overall 4-piece travel rods I have.
