Rated 3 out of 5 by Nonna51 Hot inside
I would recommend this shelter with reservation. It's a great size and shape however..... We used this shelter on the beach on a sunny, very windy day. The temperature was in the mid 80s. We had staked it done well so the wind was not an issue, however, even with all three windows wide open it was very hot inside to the point that the mom & infant that it had been bought for were unable to use it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by GrannyfromCalifornia Sunbuster Shelter was perfect for beach outing!
We recently had this sent to our daughter in Oregon. The rest of the family came up from California for a birthday sand sculpting party at the beach. Three generations and at some point, everyone enjoyed using the sun shelter. It was chilly and windy at times, but the shelter held up well and offered protection. We like the built in sand bag feature...but stake were needed too. It set up fairly quickly on our first try, considering the wind, and came down even faster:-). The size was great for our group of 8 taking turns...we also had beach bags, etc in there. It fits easily in the storage sack provided and takes little space in the car.
Upon return to our rental, the kids enjoyed it again in the back yard. A good purchase for activity intended and I'm sure it will be appreciated and enjoyed many times!! Love LLBean products, quality and service:-)

direction needs to be updated as it refers to 4 separate sand pockets which are now built in. Do a test setup before you go. It makes it easier on site. Took me 10 minutes by myself, much improved over the one my kids used 20+ years ago. It is a little pricey for what you get, but the warranty is worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by festivarian perfect for bluegrass festival shade!
Setting: RockyGrass in Lyons, CO which had just reemerged from the devastating floods in Sept. 2013, as they are right on the usually mellow St. Vrain River. RockyGrass had also been an annual family trek for us with our 2 now-grown kids: we raised them to be Festivarian's! (camping, jamming, tubing the river while listening to great music, etc.) ah. We decided we HAD to go this year....if RockyGrass could pull it together we would be there. And they DID pull it off: monumental restorative efforts were made by Planet Bluegrass and the town of Lyons, all of whom had healed through their shared music; we had to celebrate all of that. We decided, this time, to go back in "luxury" style, really just with some means of finding shade from the bright yummy sun. SO, one week before the festival I started shopping for said shade and, I believe, entertained every possible shade product on the planet before arriving at my decision to purchase the LL Bean Sunburster Shelter. I ordered the shade on a Wednesday evening on a two day ship, and it arrived by Thursday somehow! Yay, meant to be. We set it up at home: check, very easy to assemble. We took it to our campsite THE NEXT DAY and carried it into the festival which was easy due to the low weight: perfect. When we got to the festival : wow there were millions of other shelters, in fact ALL of the other shelters I had shopped were represented, so I got to evaluate our LLBean model in a very practical way. (really I sware there were millions which was not the case when we used to go every year...an aside). We had the only LLBean shelter, but by far we had the BEST, at least for the two of us and our needs. We could have accommodated at least one more adult, maybe two, and certainly could have had two youth with us. It provided great shade and a measure of coolness because we could open the "windows." (still much hotter inside the shelter than in regular shade but walls = trade off...) Then we had a typical Rocky Mountain afternoon rainy rainy storm of about two hours, but we just closed up the windows and even the front door about half way, and we stayed warm dry and cozy. We had no water leaks. I don't think that the other shelters could claim: easy set up, light weight, reasonable price, great windows, and greater shelter from the rain. It was not overly tall which we liked, vs. other shelters, but of course if one needed shelter for more folks the bigger ones would be better, AND some of the bigger shades that had no walls would be cooler. Our next best choice would have been one of those bigger shades, but the next contender had very poor reviews and turned out to be way larger than we needed and tall!!! The Sunburster Shelter had a reasonably sized footprint, possibly deeper than we needed for two of us, but that did allow us space to protect our gear from the rain, and could easily have protected our neighboring Festivarians who elected to sit out the rain in their rain gear which we have also done multiple times in the past, but it is exhausting...Not so with this shade because we were dry. (we offered our neighbors shelter.....though roughing the elements is somewhat of a general Coloradan source of pride...No wimps :-) ). We had some wind which we were well sheltered from as well, though it was not as gusty strong as Colorado can have at times. On the other hand, our shelter did seem to be hail and hearty compared to some of the other smaller "easy set up" competitors. It was perfect for our needs and we were right proud of our decision to purchase the Sunburster Shelter. We got to brag about it to a few folks who inquired, as well; LL Bean is not a typically strong competitor in Colorado for outdoor gear, you see. I only wish we had provided you a photo. Now, the only way to make this better is to have LLBean get us closer to the stage!! Very nice experience with this product. Is not for everyone maybe, but great for us. Oh and it is pretty!

Alittle tricky the first time we set it up and took it down. The next time went much smoother, found that if you roll up posts inside the tent it goes back into bag much easier. Would prefer metal stakes, find the plastic ones harder to get into some sand and do not hold as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by jklivonia Good Value, Plenty of shade
easy setup & tear down. bag has room for extra sheet. plenty of room for our little family. used it 3 times & even with the wheelie cooler inside, there's room to spare. went with this one partly for the front flap that dbl's as the privacy dr so she can feed the baby. but, once yer nestled back there it's not even necessary. works good as a porch to shake the sand away before it gets to the clean area, though. my 3 y/o catches it quickly with her eyes when she playing along the shore as it looks a little different than the umbrellas. love the innovative sand bag anchors! only suggestion would be for a couple mesh pockets for the phone & wallet. quality seems strong as usual with bean's products. we look forward to exploring Michigan beaches with this shelter for years to come.

This shelter worked great at Virginia Beach this summer. Had to set it up in high winds for the first time and it worked perfectly. Provided shelter from the high winds and sun throughout the morning while the temps were in the 90s with high humidity. The edges provided a great place to fill with sand to anchor in the high winds. This product is superior to sport umbrellas because the shelter has a floor and privacy windows can be opened and closed.
Several things were missing from the bag though. The directions said that there sandbags to anchor the tent poles. Did not find any bags to fill with sand with the shelter.
Make sure to bring a mallet with a rubber head to pound in the anchoring stakes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by mmzxhf Great beach shelter!
I bought 2 Sunbuster Shelters for my daughters to take to the beach with their little ones (2 year-old toddlers and a newborn). It is extremely lightweight to carry in its shoulder bag, very easy and intuitive to set up. The little ones napped comfortably out of the sun and ate their sandwiches without getting sand in them :) My daughter had privacy (using the front privacy screen) to breastfeed her newborn. The families also use the Sunbuster in the yard at home-the kids love to play in them! This is a really well-designed piece of equipment-a great purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by HickingBoy Beach Use In the Wind
Using the shelter at HHI this week. Stands up well in the wind. We put in up easily in mild wind this morning and just took it down in a 15 mile wind with little problem. Shelter is just as described with nice reinforced corners. We used to struggle with heavy umbrellas and never left these unattended. We left the shelter up all day, leaving it for several hours while we went in for a long lunch and time at the pool. A lot of room. I can set up my two full size camp chairs and still have plenty of head room and all our stuff. Played cards with two adults and two children, all inside and in the shade. Light and easy to cary. Worth the price.
