Bought these in sz 16's for my 13-yr-old who is about 5'-6" and less than 100 lbs. He didn't have to adjust the waist at all. They are nice shorts and "cool" enough to offer a good alternative from his usual Hollisters!

Ordered in Red, size 16, for my tall and thin, but not skinny soon to be 12 year old (5'3"+, 98 pound, 30" inseam). 5 stars for quality, length, color, overall fit. Unfortunately, when you adjust the waist to fit there is no way to put these on/take them off without unlacing and using the rip fly. My son only has use of one hand so that makes these unusable for us. He had a pair of these last year with no issues...last year's model has a bit of elastic built into the back so you can tug them up and down. That said, if you don't mind the extra work they're nicely styled and great quality."

Truly waist adjustable, with elastic and buttons so the waist can be really adjusted. The BEST for skinny boys. Fabric also seems to be holding pretty well. Very happy with the purchase.

my son takes a 10-12. I ordered size 12 and the fit was too small. I returned the bathing suit for a size 14.
disappointed in the sizing, but the quality of the fabric and style were great.

I purchased these board shorts for my 12 year old son who is very tall but thin. They fit him perfectly in both the length and the waist is adjustable with the draw string so both he and I were very happy.

These are OK, my 12 year old son thought they were itchy in the beginning, and they seemed a little tight (even though I ordered the size 14!). Now he is fine with them.

i bought two pairs of these shorts a couple summers ago and they are still in great condition and i was considering buying another two pairs because i wear them all the time but now they feature the mesh briefs that i find so irritating and the lack of those was the main reason i bought them in the first place so now i will not be buying swim shorts from ll bean anymore

Perfect fit board shorts! Both of my sons are slim, therefore the adjustable button waist is essential for the perfect fit. This feature is almost impossible to find and I was pleasantly surprised that LLBean offers it. The selection of solids and patterns was great. One son wanted the solid and the other wanted the plaid. Thank you for having this available, and hopefully you will keep carrying each year!

my boys and I have loved llbean swimsuits in the past. this year i found that they run small. i ordered the 14 - 16 and it fit the same as the 10 -12 from last year. quality is still good but sizing is unreliable. also, my son is 11 but as tall as a 12 1/2 year old. it seems odd to be jumping up to a 14 - 16. and stranger that it was too small.
