Rated 2 out of 5 by OutdoorsyDesigner I wanted to love this jacket
I liked the colors and the cut of these jackets, but had to return mine.
I'm really into performance gear because breathability and water resistance have a big impact on my enjoyment of the outdoors.
The Tek fabric just didn't breathe enough for my needs, and was stiff. Had I only needed it for cold-weather wear, it might have worked - layering could reduce the clammy feel that I experienced when using it as a rain layer in warm weather.
On the positive side, it is waterproof.
And, as always, L.L.Bean was great about the return.
I found a Neoshell pullover anorak from another outfitter that works perfectly. I see that Bean is starting to use Neoshell and H2Off-I can only hope that Tek will be phased out and the softer, more affordable alternatives to Gore-tex will replace Tek.
If I could get a message to the Bean shell designers, I'd ask for 1) slightly longer length so rain doesn't soak the top of my pants 2) more softness/breathability, and
3) more information dissemination on the waterproof sprays that need to be used to maintain high-performance rainwear. Not only would you sell a lot of the spray, you would also eliminate the returns by people who don't know that all soft, breathable rainwear (even Gore-tex) requires upkeep.
And if you made the old-school Bean anorak in a soft, waterproof tech fabric, you would hit it out of the park.....

I purchases the Pathfinder jacket last week, never intending to test it so soon. I am a ski coach at a local resort and skied 5 hours straight in pouring rain----remaining totally dry. The fit is right, with enough room to layer but not look balloon-like. I may be fired for not being in "uniform jacket" but had a comfortable dry day!

The water proof material is the best I have ever had.
I wish I could of found a coat like it but a bit longer. It was designed for what we call "suburban people" meaning they only drive and run from the car to whatever, and do not walk very often. We are city people and walk in all weather. A longer womans version would be better like they have for men.

I have only had the Pathfinder Waterproof Shell for a few weeks. During that time I have had a chance to wear it in the pouring rain on a very chilly day. It kept me dry and warm. I also am a petite size and find LLBean sizing perfect. Thanks LLBean for your quality clothing.

I chose this jacket because I like that it is waterproof and helps protect me from the wind. I wanted something that would keep me warm in cool fall rainy conditions yet had zippers under the arm that I can use when I am overly warm. This jacket has lots of pockets and I like that, too. My cell phone can be on me without being overly bulky. I also like LLBean's fit for me as I have short arms and need petite sizing. The fit was true to size. The velcro cuffs help me to tighten it to fit my arms. The color I wanted was not available in our local store but I was able to order it online. It arrived in just a few days.

This raincoat is everything I've wanted...super stylish, lightweight, and repels water like a duck. It's perfect.

I have already used this jacket on a rainy day when I was running errands. It was great! Lightweight but kept me dry, which is the main reason I bought it. The fit was good with some room to move. Love the color too! Another great product from LL Bean.

This is a great jacket. It is a bonus for me that there are petite sizes. The price point is a little better than comparable jackets from high end competitors.
However, the drawback for me was the small pockets in the front. They are not deep. I would be worried I could lose mittens, glove or anything else that I would shove in there while hiking, xc skiing or dodging rain.
The brilliant blue color was too light. I figured it would show grime in the use areas. Hard to clean on these types of jackets
One plus for this jacket is that it is not as stiff as the Gore-Tex Pro version of this jacket. Easier to stuff in a pack.
I also considered the Gore-Tex stowaway jacket but the colors were boring.
There are so many choices, levels of comfort with wind and rain protection, fit and pricing that it becomes a challenge to find what you want.
One of these years LLBean will nail it for me. I'll keep looking.

It was finally time to replace my LL Bean Stow Away Rain Jacket. Mine was many years old and has gotten to the point that my shoulders would be damp when by the time I walked the second dog (I have 4). I knew I wanted another green jacket. I finally decided on the Pathfinder jacket in Clover Green. Brighter than my Stow Away but I love the color. I ordered a regular large and the fit is good. I do however agree with previous comments about the pockets being too shallow. I don't think my cellphone would fit safely. It does however keep me very dry and works well with my Trail Model Rain Pants. I would have purchased another Stowaway Jacket as I love the Goretex but did not care for the colors.

Rated 4 out of 5 by lovenature Good rain jacket for hiking
This jacket is designed to wear under a backpack. It is great in the range of motion in the arms and back and roomy for layers underneath.Fabric is great, not stiif and noisy. I just wish it came in talls. I am 5'9" and this jacket hits just below my waist. Definately getting wet in the back if I don't wear the rainpants. I wish it was maybe 3 inches longer. That is the length of other brands who make comparable jackets. The lack of a two way zipper doesn't bother me because the jacket is too short for that to be an issue when you sit down if you are tall.
