I bought this hat 3 times. One - to replace hat my teenager lost (now he doesn't want to wear anything else), one for family member who tried first hat and wanted his own. I hope no hats will get lost again or I will have to order once more. Both wearers have big heads and it fits them perfectly.

Bought this cap for my very fussy husband to use when he does outdoor chores in frequently windy and cold winters here in Michigan. He has short hair and a large head, so many hats of this type do not cover his ears. He is very pleased with this - fits tight and covers his ears, allows no wind to penetrate while he does outdoor chores.

I wear this hat under my bike helmet when the weather is cool. It works really well. It fits snugly and doesn't add a lot of bulk.

Veryc nice cap with the following qualities. Easy stretch, soft fleece inner lining, easy care. I like the comfort of trail model a little better, but it is also thicker (a little harder to stuff in pocket) and attracts dog hair.

As with all things LLBean, excellent quality. Best to compare with the Trail Model Fleece Hat which I like a little better. This hat is slightly tighter around but has slightly more stretch. It has a soft inner lining (unlike hunter model which is shiny inside and no fleece--although surprisingly comfortable with wear). It does not seem to attract hairs (like dog hairs) which is a problem with the trail model fleece hat. Overall, the trail model fleece hat is my favorite for comfort. This one is not as comfortable but easier care (less dog hair to remove).

For years I've been searching for a snug pullover hat that would remain in place and protect my ears. Invariably every one that I've tried pulls up, keeping the top of my head warm but leaving my ears exposed to the wind chill.
What makes this pitiful offering unique in a long line of disappointments is that in addition to pulling up, it doesn't even keep the top of my head warm once it's retracted!
This item is advertised as a "one size fits all". That may be true if your hat size resembles a grapefruit.
I wear a 7 1/4" hat. When I initially put it on I could hear the seam threads snapping and I was afraid it would tear. Nonetheless I gave it a chance to adjust to me over the course of two weeks. If anything, its performance grew worse.
The hat is poorly constructed and cheaply made. It incorporates very little insulating material and doesn't begin to stop any amount of windchill.
If there were an option for "negative stars" that's where it would be.
The item is on its way back to the LL Bean reject bin.

I bought this hat particularly for kayaking in the colder temps, however, found it to be more versatile. It is easy to keep clean and to store in a pocket. Great buy!

The negatives outweighed the positives for me:
1. This hat is only sold in one size, but it won't fit everyone. This hat was much too large for me (5ft.6in. woman). The front came down past my eyes. I tried rolling up the edge a few inches, but then there was a row of stitching that felt tight and uncomfortable around my ears.
2. The hat had a funny, plasticky smell. Maybe this would go away after washing it (I'm returning it, so I can't say).
1. Soft, comfortable, quality fabric, with quality construction.
2. Nice color, in my opinion (the green one called "Jade Citron")
