Rated 2 out of 5 by NYCBean Too stiff!
Though constructed well, they're pretty heavy and have a very stiff toe-box. Feels like a steel toe boot. They look really nice and I received compliments the few times I wore them but unfortunately the stiff toe box made them unwearable for any length of time.
Perhaps a 1/2 size bigger would give me more room, but I think it's more the cut/construction as they feel OK lengthwise yet the top of my toe hurts after wearing.
I'll be returning for something different.

I had fond desert boot flashbacks when I saw these and ordered these, and have had buyer's remorse. The sizing is odd. Wide toe box. The stitching on the pull-on tab on the heel looks like an afterthought. Unlike the desert boots of old these are stiff, like cardboard. Very, very odd footwear. I considered sending them back but I'm weary of sending things back. These are bound for Goodwill or the Dumpster.

I ordered these in a size 14. When the box arrived I was immediately suspicious - the shoes looked way too small.
I tried to try them on and could just about squeeze my feet into them. While the shoe was marked size 14, the real size was close to a 12, at best.
This might be a one-off labelling error so I will be sending them back and hoping for better luck with the replacement.

Rated 2 out of 5 by nemecky Almost unwearable still
I've had my boots now about a year and I can barely wear them because the suede is so stiff that it digs into the top of my toes and is excruciatingly painful. Not to mention the rubbing on the back of my heels.
I see some have also had problems breaking them in, but how can you break them in when they hurt so bad to even wear them? I have been looking online for a decent solution, because I want to wear them, but haven't found anything yet. Some say oil. some say don't use oil!?
They look great, and the sole is super comfortable, but every step I take hurts right now. Any suggestions??

These are my new favorite casual shoes. However, it took a while to get them broken in.
The heavy construction makes me think they will last longer so it seems worth the couple of band-aids it took to overcome the initial period. The price was certainly a bargain.

My 81/2 med. were a little stiff out of the box but I wore them all the next day with no foot fatigue or stiffness. They are a well made and hearty boot. I have only worn them for a day now but I think they are a fine llbean product.

Completely unlike the desert boots I ordered years ago, these mediums are so wide across the toe, I think of duck feet when i glance down at them. Paddle feet.
I did not return them, because, frankly, I am weary of returning items from various merchants, and UPS Is not that handy for me.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Iowalker Definitely not a Clark's knock-off
I wore Clark's desert boots for about thirty years and quit when they were getting far too expensive for my budget. At about that time Bean's came out with Kenyan knock-off that was almost as good and almost as comfortable as the Clark's. Unfortunately the Kenyan chukkas (as they became) were not as durable as the Clark's. But both had extremely soft and comfortable uppers and a certain amount of cushioning in the gum rubber soles (which were death when wet and and one walked onto a tile floor). These shoes do not soften with use and the soles are far more rigid than those on Clark's. They look good, They are fine for limited wear, but they are no substitute for the original or the Kenyan offshoot. Once Clark's were broken in they no longer needed to be tied and untied -- they just slipped on and off.
These require complete loosening of the laces -- no easy on and off. Not "the next best thing to bare feet" as I used to say about Clark's.

They are great! I like them a lot. Comfortable and stylish. At least for the style I prefer. Reminds me of my younger days when I wore them all of the time.
Glad you brought back a great shoe.
