When fishing I normally wear a Bean Tropic Wear Outback hat, but I purchased this hat for times when the mosquitos become a problem. It is a good substitute for my much loved Outback Hat, BUT the sizing is really strange. The large size outback hat is a perfect fit for me, but the S/M Ex-Officio is way too large. Its a good thing that my ears stick out! Despite the horrible sizing, it does an excellent job shielding me from the sun and bugs.

I bought this because I need it for a long nature trip in the Deep South involving backwoods, intense sunshine and aggressive swarms of bugs.
THE PROS: The wide brim will keep the sun out, the brim is long in the back to shade the back of your neck, the fabric is pretreated with some kind of bug repellent and it's well-made.
THE CONS: The style should be "Safari" but comes off as mostly "dumpy" due to the hat's floppy, raggy nature...and unfortunately this seems to add years to my appearance. The available colors are not flattering to my complexion (jewel tones & brights work better for me than yellow/mud/earth tones). It's unisex but not the most female-friendly hat IMO.
With some style/color changes, they could make a great women's outdoor hat!
I paid a lot for this and am not entirely happy but will be keeping it for its finer qualities.

I think the hat is wonderful. Have used it number of times and my reason for purchasing was more for sun protection. The idea of being able to adjust the brim's position was one of the nice features.
If I was able to change anything about the hat at all it would be to find a way to keep the tiedown for the hat tucked away when not in use.
As I stated I love the hat and would purchase again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by BroncoProf Nice hat, but big
I bought this hat to replace a similar type of hat that I lost while travelling. So far it has served me well, and I like the wide brim (wider than the hat it replaced). However, the sizing is big: The hat I lost was size large, and fit just about right, whereas this Bugsaway Adventure Hat is size small/medium and is a bit loose. Perhaps it will shrink a little when I wash it. I have not had a chance to test its effectiveness at repelling insects: It is still too early in the spring for there to be many bugs around.

I recently received my hat. I havn't had occasion to wear it outside yet, but, I've worn it in the house just to see how it feels. I love being able to shape the brim of the hat, also that it is a little longer in the back over my neck. I have the s/m size, and it does fit it a little big, just barely over the top of my ears--which doesn't bother me. Just need to have the hot days to see if it really keeps the bugs away!

I gave this gift to my son who recently shaved his head. His comment was that it was just what he wanted.

Fit is great. Strap tightens up so the wind won't take it away.

I am so looking forward to wearing my hat when I visit South Africa!!
I have tried on many other 'Adventure' Hats, but this one fits just right.

I gave away my travel hat and now I needed another. I am loved by mosquitoes and I hope this works on a trip to Panama and Costa Rica. I like that you can adjust the brim because it has something you can shape. The cord will be good if we are on a zodiac but you can move it to the back or under the hat if you do not need that feature.

Measured my head and checked the S/M size description. Should be a good fit. Had to send it back because it went over my ears.
If you buy one, good luck.
