I have been in search of a long sleeve shirt to use for both sun protection and insect avoidance. This shirt is awesome. It is incredibly soft and comfortable. It is perfect for travel, hiking, backpacking and kayaking. There are many thoughtful details such as the hem pocket, the extension on the back of the collar to allow for neck protection, the roll up sleeves and back vents. I am typically a 12 Tall in shirts ( have very long arms and wide shoulders). The Large fits loosely which is perfect for layering. It kept the Mosquitos away in my trial run. The blue is a lovely color.
This shirt is a keeper. Perfect for outdoor activities and It is nice enough to wear out to a restaurant while traveling. Hears hoping that this shirt is made in many more colors.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Bugless The shirt completes the outfit
Love the shirt. I really like having the no-fly pants and shirt together.
The reason for the 4 star is the pockets. One chest pocket is not enough. When I put something in it, I look uneven. Love the zip chest pocket (need 2). I love the little zip pocket at the hem line. No Fly Zone is the way to go in buggy country. I don't like using a lot of chemical bug sprays on my skin, so I like to cover up. Based on a previous review I ordered one size up on the shirt. That was a perfect fit.

This shirt is the one you want if you want a roomy fit, excellent protection, and to stay cool in hot weather.
This shirt is expensive, but it fits my needs perfectly. I have melanoma and must wear SPF30+ clothing on the insistence of my oncologist. LLBean offers a variety of clothing with SPF50 protection. Some of them look prettier than the No Fly Zone shirt. But the relaxed cut, and most importantly, the venting which allows me to stay cool while working and playing hard in the heat, is the deal-breaker for me. It is well worth the extra expense!
The No Fly Zone shirt is stain-resistant, cleans easily, and dries overnight. It looks new after heavy use and repeated washings.
While I wish there were other colors offered, I got compliments wearing both Mid-Blue and Clay. Clay looks awful on my browser, but it is amazing when paired with colorful sleeveless tops. It?s my new favorite color.
I wish there were more pale colors offered, including white. (Hint to LLBean: hot sun = need for light colors to deflect heat. Get rid of the dark colors on SPF clothing.)
This shirt is the best of the best.

Rated 5 out of 5 by betsymig Great shirt for hiking and traveling
The blue color is very attractive and dark enough not to show small stains/dirt. It washes well. I enjoyed wearing this shirt on the plane, as well as for hikes. It fits true to size and falls nicely. The tail remains flat (not wrinkled) even after sitting on it for hours.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Jim67 Too tight
Fabric is great, but too tight on my wife. She is usually a size 10/12 but for for actual movement(canoes, fly fishing) too restrictive(purchased a size large) going back for a credit

Rated 5 out of 5 by Robin717 More muted colors, please
I love this shirt. It fits well and looks good. Please consider adding other colors such as a light brown, tan, muted green, etc., so that we don't stand out when in the woods, or fields while bird watching, or on safari. Thanks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by redrum Lovely soft "desert shirt"
What soft fabric for a "desert shirt!" It feels so good against my skin, not like those scratchy nylon shirts of the past. I wear a Bean Large when I order shirts, and although this one is slightly fitted, it's quite big and roomy for me. Which is great because the air circulates better in a spacious shirt. I live near the desert in Idaho where the temps get over 100 in the summer, so this shirt will keep me well protected from the heat and the sun. (Not to mention bugs which we don't have very many.) Very lovely shirt, looks better than a T-shirt and so cool, too. Thanks, Bean, for another great quality shirt!

This is a great shirt. It feels good and will be prefect for African safaris. I love it except for one thing. The largest size it comes in is XL. I can usually wear an XL Bean shirt but this one is slightly fitted so while it fits in the shoulders and arms it barely buttons around my middle. I am still going to keep it and wear it unbuttoned over a tee while in Africa so I am protected against the mosquitos, but I wish you would make this shirt in plus sizes or in a relaxed fit.

Overall, I like the shirt. I am sensitive to smells and I can smell a slight odor of the insect repellent. That bothers me a bit and while the sun protection, etc is said to last many, many washings, I do hope that the odor of the pesticide is reduced after a few washings.
The fit was a little smaller than I expected based upon a prior purchase of a shirt with SPF protection - Size Medium. This time I ordered a Large and it still conformed to my body more than I had anticipated.
Having said all that - I like the shirt and I am keeping it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by ActiveLady60 so close to exactly right
The fit is great, with the sleeves a little long for comfort while being active. The fabric's light and comfortable, the collar sits well. I wish the buttons were rubber and not hard plastic. But here's the big issue: Why can't anyone put useful pockets in a woman's shirt? This shirt has one small zipper pocket at the bottom of the right side, big enough for a few dollars and a credit card but a credit card in a pocket down there isn't very comfortable and car keys are unthinkably lumpy and pointy for that location. The only other pocket is a single zippered breast pocket, and though it's fair sized, it's located so that if you have any womanly shape at all in the chest area then what you put into that pocket will stick out in a very strange fashion. Why can't women get usable pockets in shirts? Look at a well known travel vest to see how it could be done.
