I looked everywhere for a rain coat exactly like this and thought it existed only in my imagination. Thank you so much LL Bean! The coat is so lightweight you hardly know you're wearing it, the fit is perfect, length is perfect, the double zippers are wonderful and a feature I demanded but could not find anywhere else, the zip-off hood is really nice. The stylish detailing is fantastic. Now you know why I say this coat is brilliant!

Rated 2 out of 5 by BabsinTX Very tight in shoulders and noisy
Loved the raspberry color and length. I ordered a large (normally a medium) but it was so tight in the shoulders and back that movement was difficult. And the noise! Every movement generated quite a bit of noise. The belt is slippery; I'd trash it if I were keeping this.

Rated 2 out of 5 by 19er Not what I expected
This coat is very lightweight and will not work in cold or even cool temperatures without wearing a sweater underneath. However, when the weather is warm, you can sweat since the fabric doesn't breathe. As others mentioned, the fabric makes a crinkling noise that I thought I could overlook but I was wrong. It's really irritating. On the plus side it is waterproof, has a removable hood and snaps to adjust the size of the sleeve opening.
I would not purchase this jacket if I were to decide again.

I originally ordered the Silver Birch, thinking silver would be a good color, but I hadn't counted on the green tint of the Birch. I exchanged it for the Deep Raspberry. LLBean makes return/exchanges easy.
Based on previous reviews, I did not expect the nice shirring in the back, learned how to use the zipper, and made sure I pinned the belt to the coat. All this made for a favorable experience.
I spent 2 days walking around in the rain & managed to stay dry. The 2-way zipper was very convenient. If the coat also had snaps in addition to the zipper, it would be perfect. It packs down well so I was able to put it in a small pocket on my carry-on bag to pull out in a moment's notice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Deb7111 Great waterproof rain trench!
I rely on customer reviews, and this coat had varying opinions. Consider this: are you looking for a WATERPROOF coat? If so, order it right now. You will not find better features, styling and price. It has a very light lining, but I ordered up a size and my woolly Bean Galway blazer fits nicely underneath. The coat is thin enough to pack in a suitcase and it's perfect for travel. It has all the important outdoor waterproofing details you'd expect from LLBean. Picture yourself in Paris on a windy, rainy night when an umbrella can't help you. Wear this coat and you'll still be able to run out to dinner and arrive dry thanks to the West End Trench. Or you could do an all-day summer hike in the Alps on a rainy day or you could wear it to work when it's pouring and still be dry. This is what it is designed to do. If, however, you are looking for an all-purpose coat, you might not need the covered zippers, hood, and pull strings that make this coat such a winner.
(I also ordered a comparable coat from a competitor outdoor outfitter. Its cut was for a slender 20-something and I did not their details as well. Bean's coat was better for less money.)
When it comes to a waterproof coat that could be as useful on a city street as it is on a trail, this coat is an excellent choice.
One con: The zipper is a tiny bit tricky, but if you follow the advice of starting it off by holding the seam rather than the metal zipper pull, it does the job well.

I bought this coat for a fall trip to Rome, the rainy season. It's wonderful. Packs small and weightless, looks good with dresses and slacks. I usually wear a medium or large in LLB, but opted for a large to allow a blazer or sweater underneath. I'm glad I did; even without a second layer the coat fits well and doesn't look oversized. I might tack the belt onto the loops to avoid it slipping out though.

Rated 4 out of 5 by carolannie good length, lightweight, wrinkles
Good 3/4 length, red color is nice deep wine burgandy. Glad I got one size bigger otherwise it would not go over a sweater or sweatshirt. Fabric is lighter than expected more like a windbreaker, hard to get wrinkles out, had to wash it after it arrived to get them out. Have not yet worn it in heavy rainstorm. Wish LL Bean had more Made in the USA things.

Great raincoat. Very stylish and comfortable, but be careful because belt slips out of loops very easily. In fact, I am very sad that I have already lost my belt and I've only owned the coat for a month! Bummer.

I ordered this raincoat in two colors and a size larger than usual after reading another review. The black one did smell very strongly; the lapis not as bad and I loved the color. But even ordering a size up didn't let me put a light sweater under it comfortably. I am disappointed and would have gone to a larger size but it is not available. It is cut too small across the shoulder blades.

I bought this trench coat in sage green because I like sage green and it was on sale, tho not on clearance.
The picture viewed online suggested shirring above and below the tie-belt in the back. No way! If I pulled the belt to encourage a little waistline indent, the fabric below the belt just puffed out resisting my effort. There is not enuf fabric to shirr, or is it me that fluffs, hmm!!!
I returned the coat and ordered the H2OFF 3/4 coat instead. This one has no belt, a better choice for me!
