Rated 5 out of 5 by TheSuit Solid headlamp for a good price
In general I'm not a huge fan of headlamps because I don't like how they feel but this one has definitely served me well. It's great for finding your way around a campsite (and has adjustments for amount of light you want, which is good too) and I also used it a few times when our lights went out over winter because it was easier than carrying around a flashlight and only having one hand free.

Rated 3 out of 5 by LovetheBasics One deal-breaker issue.....
Had a Trailblazer headlamp a few years ago that was lost. Ordered this one, but returned it. Overall, the quality was fine, but the deal-breaker issue was this: when you have the lamp on your head, it is really almost impossible to rotate the lamp up and down with one hand which really is something one should be able to do. Now looking at the more expensive choices.....really wish the $29.95 option worked out!

works great as an extra light fixing small items, and was a great help working past sundown when the work had to be completed before the rains came. Icouldn't have done it any other way.
Glad I had the headlight that lasted for over 1.5 hours with no problem.
Thanks L.L. Bean. for a great product fair price and fast delivery...but most of all standing behind every product no matter what.

Rated 3 out of 5 by ferro Good light but fragile
Bought a couple of months ago and used it mainly for walking the dogs at night. It provides a bright light over a wide area and obviously keeps hands free, and it can be operated wearing gloves. Unfortunately, I dropped it from a height of about three feet onto a tile floor and the plastic loop that holds the headband broke, making it useless. I do think that any product designed for outdoor use should be more rugged than this, but if you're not as clumsy as I am, you will probably find it very useful.

Rated 4 out of 5 by LoyalLLBeaneur Stiff on-off switch. Vulnerable battery latch.
I bought this useful headlamp after returning the earlier, three-LED model (bought four or five years ago) because the latch to the battery compartment on the older unit had broken off. The new model has very similar design, so use caution replacing batteries.
My only complaint: The hard rubber on-off button is once again stiff and hard to click, same as previous unit. I have to push down very firmly to cycle through the four modes. The "click" is hard to make happen, and you don't get much kinetic feedback to let you know when you've pressed hard enough to activate the switch. (If you are wearing insulated or stiff gloves, you might want to remove them to operate the on-off button.)
FYI, this model costs twice as much as my return ticket indicated the old one did several years ago, perhaps because this newer model adds a fourth LED. Maybe it's brighter than its predecessor; I can't tell.

Rated 2 out of 5 by SRCinWV I really want to love these lights!
Let me start by saying that LLB CS has been great, but after a number of battery door failures I will be looking for a new headlamp to replace the dozen or so Trailblazers I have been using over the past few years.
I have the older 3 LED as well as the newer 4 LED ones and all have the very fragile door latch that breaks off during battery change. Even with extra care given to try to mitigate the weakness the latch will break after just a couple/few battery changes.
I was really hoping I had bought a bad batch that had poor plastic, but I now have many lots made over several years and they all seem very failure prone.
On an up note until it breaks I love this light and use it all the time (Several hours a day some times and usually at least 4-5 days a week), but they do tend to fail at a bad time. (Think storm/flooding/landslides/power outage 12 hour plane ride from the house)
An easy bandaid is a rubber band or piece of bicycle tube stretched over the light/battery compartment which will secure a broken battery door quite securely until you can work your way to a better situation even if it is days or weeks away!

by RickHikes Perfect, except
The cap that holds the batteries in is poorly designed. Mine broke this morning after a bump and as you can see in these comments, quite a few others have experienced that same tiny piece of plastic snapping. LL Bean, please fix the cap! Except for that, it is excellent. The light is bright making night hikes or even just trips out to the woodpile or fire-pit very easy. The switch is 'smart' in that it normally cycles from off to hi, low, blinking and off, but after you use it for a few seconds, the next press is off - a handy feature. The batteries last a very long time. My wife uses it to see her needlework when she does a sewing project. The kids walk the dog at night. I just tried cross-country skiing before dawn and it is SO much fun! When they fix that darn cap, get a couple.

Just bought this headlamp in pink. Great quality strap and very bright illumination with different settings. This will be so useful in many different situations. Was pleasantly surprised to see that it comes with Duracell batteries. I had it shipped to Canada and the delivery was speedy!

When I saw this item online I thought of a few things it would be helpful for. Then I received it and wow!! Everything from being outside with our Boxer puppy after dark to lighting a darkened area of our basement...the list of uses are endless!! I would give it 10 stars if possible!! Forget traditional flashlights...this is a must!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by BeanieFromOhio works great!
I purchased this for my husband. He sometimes takes early morning walks and usually has to carry a flashlight, but with this headlamp he can see great and his hands are free. He also wears it when he goes out in the evening to bring in more firewood. This lights up everything he needs to see and the band around his head is comfortable. I just might need to get another one when they are on sale again for myself!
