Bought two of these for my daughters for Christmas last year and they absolutely love them. Both my daughters are on the petite side for being 8 and 4 years old and the head strap on these lights were amply adjustable and fit their small heads very nicely. The lamps give my girls a sense of safety during the occasional power outages we experience here in NJ and they worked spectacularly when we go camping. I like them so much I'll be buying two more (one for me and one for my wife) as to be able to have both hands free to fill the generator with gas in the middle of the night is going to make my life considerably easier. They are very bright and provide ample illumination in the darkness. I would highly recommend these for both adults and children. The great price makes this purchase a no-brainer.

It may not have occurred to you to buy a headlamp as an extra light source but like many tools it is only useful when you need it & then you wish you had it. So, think about the times you could have used a third hand or there was no one else around to hold a light on the subject or perhaps you had to bite your tongue because your assistant can't seem to steadily focus a flashlight on the subject & your frustration has reached a peak. Maybe you arrive to your camp site late at night or your car breaks down on a dark road? Been there, done that? Problem solved. This head lamp appears well made - no I have not dropped it yet but I don't see where it would be any different then dropping any flashlight & perhaps less of a chance to do so. It has 3 light strengths, flashing and tilts for easy focusing. It is comfortable and light weight. Best of all, LED's go a long way on batteries. All in all, a handy & useful gadget. Just don't forget to keep it handy or get one for the car, the garage, the kids, etc. Make life easy. : )

I previously purchased a 4-LED Head lamp from L.L. Bean, but after many years the switch finally gave out. I use this headlamp every day for work. I ordered a new head lamp on 5/21/2013. It arrived quickly and I was very impressed. I used this head lamp for 4 days. When I tried to change the batteries, the clip for the door broke. I have to put a rubber band on the head lamp to keep the batteries in place in order in order to get it to work. The previous model had a screw in the back for removal of the batteries. I am disappointed. I am going to contact the manufacturer for replacement.

As others have said it puts out a lot of light with only four LED's - much brighter than a 9 LED unit I previously had. I was careful and followed the instructions on opening the battery case based on other reviewers comments concerning the door being fragile. It does look a bit weak but it worked. Unit is light weight and strap is comfortable making it easy to use

I am a photographer who likes to do light painting. Light painting is pointing a light like a flashlite or strobe light at an object in total darkness so only the object is lighted. Being in total darness makes it impossible to see camera settings. That's where the headlamp comes in handy. It leaves my hands free to do the camera settings. And since it is on a headband I don't lose it in the dark. At $24 it is a good buy. I highly recommend it for anyone that works in the dark and needs to have their hands free. At it's highest setting the headlamp puts out enough light so I can safely get to my light painting locations while carrying at lot of gear.

A great little item.....I only use it to read in bed, but the light is plenty bright, so as not to disturb my wife. I can see where it would also be a great guiding light for a trip to the bathroom or if you had a power issue. Just as handy camping. A great little purchase.

I use this primarily for: 1. trips to our dark, horrible cellar; and 2. trimming our dog's nails. Especially useful for the latter due to bright, focused light. I'm also thinking of this item as a potential gift for grandsons, ages 9 and 11: they love all kinds of military-maneuver type games, and love the gear involved. Very good item, well worth the money.

We were in Maine for the first camping trip of the year and had forgotten one of the most important items - our head lamps! So we went to Bean's and bought one each, and couldn't be more pleased. They are bright and comfortably light to wear. We are thrilled with them, and feel they are better than the much more expensive ones we had before.The only thing that was hard for our arthritic hands was getting them out of their very tight packaging! Otherwise, LLBean - you have scored again.

Ordered one LL Bean headlamp, used a few times, put away for a season. Then took it out, and it just did not work. Contacted LL Bean, and without question, they provided another...same thing. I used it a few times last fall. Then this spring, I took it out, and it would not turn on...new batteries, no corrosion, just would not turn on. Will order from another manufacturer/brand.

I agree with most reviews, a good light but... I have had 3 of these lights. I use them often while doing chores around the house to shine extra light on whatever I am doing. Problem is that after about a year or less the plastic becomes more brittle and if you happen to drop the thing onto a hard surface (hard wood floor, tile floor, driveway, etc) it WILL break. All three lights ended this way for me. Specifically what happens is the battery compartment cover and/or compartment fastening tab break from light to moderate impact.
