Rated 5 out of 5 by SasquatchBigfoot Much Better Than Older Electric Lanterns
For several years we've made do with older types of electric camp lanterns, including the incandescent bulb type and the fluorescent bulb type. This year we finally updated to the Lighthouse Lantern. HUGE difference. Much more light, much better color temperature light, using only half the batteries and 1/25th the power consumption of the the older types of lanterns. We were so happy with the performance of the Lighthouse Lantern on a 7-day campout in the Adirondacks that we've just ordered another. The only problem is what to do with the older, obsolete lanterns......

Rated 5 out of 5 by Gajules Good lamp
Love all the features of this lamp. Like the way it coverts to hang from a hook in your tent and can hang from above, so upside down. Like the remote control that allows you to turn off the lights if you are already snug in your sleeping bag or perhaps you went out hiking and left the lantern in your tent. With the remote, you can turn the light on as you walk into your campsite. If you are using the remote, the lantern does have a light that blinks constantly. Have not figured out if there is a way to turn that off. Secondly, the lamp is a bit heavy. All in all, I think it is a great lamp and I would buy it again. My husband is looking forward to using it on his next camping trip. Hope to be able to use it for many years to come!

Had received one as a gift last year, had not used until last month, was impressed with the brightness of it. Ended up buying another one because I liked the first one

Rated 5 out of 5 by RozLovesBean Liked it so much, I got two!
After going through no power for 12 days during Hurricane Sandy, and having problems from Hurricane Irene the year before, I vowed to get a good lantern. Well, this is certainly the one! As a matter of fact, this recent purchase was my second one. With the onslaught of the Hurricane season and winter months coming up soon, it was the right time to make the purchase and get an extra one so that there could be one on each floor of the house. The lantern itself is outstanding. There are 3 levels of brightness and a little flashing light that will lead you right to it during a power outage or if you are outdoors on a camping trip. Anything from LL Bean is excellent quality, and this is no exception!

by SavetheGorillas Field tested in Africa!
I brought several of these lanterns to a very remote region of Democratic Republic of Congo, Central Africa to be used by staff of a gorilla conservation project there. In the evenings, there is no power, so the staff needed something that put out a lot of light. These little lanterns were surprisingly bright and worked perfectly! They are lightweight and a great alternative to lugging around bulky, smelly kerosene lamps. We hang up one and set the other on a table, and it's enough to light up a large room. They have been dropped and knocked over frequently, but they are very durable. The quality you come to expect from L.L. Bean! One Congolese staff member said that they "were made for Africa" because they were so tough! We've been using them nonstop since Nov 2013, and they are still going strong. We are so happy with how bright they are, that we even starting using them (on high power) as our lights during veterinary procedures. We use them with rechargeable batteries, which definitely drain faster than regular batteries. Everyone enjoys the remote control feature too!

Rated 4 out of 5 by PMCamper Three lights in one!
I appreciate the flexibility of this light. With the upright and hanging modes, the lantern is great. Add the remote/pocket light and it is like having three lights in one. I have not put the "thirty-days" to the test yet, but I have no doubt with three "D" batteries it will hold it's charge. The (slight) downside is that anything with 3 "D" batteries is not going to be light. This lantern balances the weight vs. functionality nicely.

Rated 5 out of 5 by FlyFisherxxxxx Lantern works as promised
Bought this to transition away from propane lantern I've used for 25 years. Functioned just great on 10 day camping trip, providing light for nine nights inside a camper and outside. Still ample battery power remaining.
Two suggestions: improve box to be all cardboard all around, so one can store the lantern and accessories safely together; find a way to attach the hanging hook to the lantern so there's one less "loose piece" to locate. Otherwise, great!

Not using it for camping but for earthquake or blackout occasions.
I like very much the remote control & variations of the light power.
A wonderful item for every home.

Rated 5 out of 5 by bluebeam Best electric lantern yet
I can't say anything bad about this item. It is truly excellent. High quality materials and built well. Will light up a 20 x 30 foot room brightly (thanks to LED technology#. I bought this for emergency power outages; now I have three. Three brightness settings plus remote on/off controller. Very wise choice of using three D size batteries: long life before replacement. I now use this lantern as my "red light" when doing astrophotography #window is covered with red cellophane). I'll be giving these to my kids and grandkids as gifts.

Rated 3 out of 5 LH 30 not up to much cheaper, very similar item
For the price being DOUBLE over an Ozark Trails Model 20042 I would have expected an excellent LED Lantern. I find after having used both that the LH 30 doesn't live up to anywhere near the 720 hour rating on low. It also has a flashing "finder" LED that cannot be turned off if in long term storage, therefore running down the batteries.
The features for battery placement and bottom closure alignment are stickon decals, nothing permanent, except a very small, and all but invisible in the dark, rail and channel alignment that is hard to align even in a lighted room. In an actual emergency situation with no lighting whatsoever, the Ozark Trail lantern outperforms the LH 30 hands down for battery installation and bottom closure alignment.
I would strongly recommend that L.L. Bean find a new designer for this LED lantern. It COULD be made into an excellent lantern with the addition of a switch which would turn off the flashing "finder" LED. This lantern also needs some impressions filled in with white paint for the battery alignments and something like the Ozark Trail lantern has for the bottom closure alignment.
Don't waste your money. This item is NOT that much better than the Ozark item, which is one half the price. Actually I purchased my Ozark for $15.99 on sale, 1/2 of the now advertised price. IF you feel you need to spend the $60 just buy two for the price of one.
I actually was under the impression that L.L. Bean had very good quality stock. Maybe they should also buy one of the Ozark Trail 20042 model lanterns and do their own comparisons!!!!!!!!
