This lantern is small but packs a powerful punch! Can easily fit in a kitchen cabinet so it's right there when you need it. Remote was missing the batteries which should have been included according to the LL Bean description. Without hesitation, a Bean rep made sure I received them by mail. I was concerned that the bulb can not be replaced but was told by a Bean rep to return the lantern if it comes to be. 100% satisfaction guarantee right up to the light bulb!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Veecee Nice light, sure beats flashlights!
I was looking for something with more utility than a flashlight for longer use (power outages) but without the stink and hiss and mess of our old fuel-powered Coleman lamps. We're in the middle of one of those "interesting" Nor'easters, and so far this little light is perfect for our use! Our instructions were skimpy on the use of the remote, but David from Customer Service walked me through it (a previous reviewer commented on this, and LLBean folks responded). But David gave clear, concise directions and now all is well. The high power is very bright indeed but these aging eyes need bright light in some circumstances. I appreciate the adjustable settings, the light weight, and, yes, the remote.

Purchased this a week ago. We are in our third week without power due to hurricane Sandy. This lantern is a godsend. The design allows for many uses. Every home should have a couple of these.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LICustomer Super bright !
Don't be fooled by its size - this lantern is super bright - no wonder the package says do not look directly at the light for more than a few seconds.
Appears to be solidly made -- only issue is that the bulb is not replaceable. LL Bean Service told me that if it ever needs to be replaced I can return it -- time will tell if that is true.
At the end of the day -- I feel better prepared for extended power outages (6 days due to Sandy)

Rated 5 out of 5 by Raysgirl62 Good light and the remote is a bonus
We used this lantern on a two day camping trip and really liked it. It takes 3 D sized batteries. The remote makes it really nice and we kept the remote clipped onto our belt loop and turned our lantern on when we got almost back to the tent. It was great not fumbling around looking for a light in the dark and easier than toting around a flashlight. The remote has a small light on it as well to help you locate things in the dark. Very nice small, bright, and easy to use light source.

Rated 5 out of 5 by NedinPA Powerful light
We bought this lantern for use when the electricity is not available. It has enough lumens that it will light up a room so you can work and read, or you can adjust it to lower the lumens and save the battery. Not sure that the remote is all that necessary to its use, but then i've never had a remote for a lantern

Rated 2 out of 5 by bunniesmom Cute Lamp But Needs Improvement
I recently purchased this lamp based on the description and the positive reviews I read about this lamp on the LL Bean site. Unfortunately, the problem is that the lamp needs to have a softer less reflective lense glass globe because when this light is turned on, the glare from it is so strong that you cannot look directly at it. In fact the instructions warn you against looking directly at the light. So, what good is it? I compared it to my old Coleman lanterns and the light from those old lanterns is much less glaring and hard on the eyes. So, the lamp is cute, but needs improvement.

Rated 5 out of 5 by carcamper Don't let the small size fool you
This small lantern is a powerhouse of light. The day it arrived we had one of our all-too-frequent power outages, so the Lighthouse was promptly tested. Nice, bright light, and it appears to be very sturdy.
Instructions are a little sparse. It took me a while to realize that the button has to be pressed 4 times -- through the three light levels and to the blue nightlight level -- before the remote can be used. If you want to be able to turn it off and on from your tent, you have to set it to blue first, then use the remote. If it is turned on manually, you will not be able to use the remote to turn it off.
The only improvement I could see would be to allow the remote to turn it off and on without having to set it in nightlight mode first. But I can live with that.

Better than the lantern I had from Coleman. Smaller, brighter and it has a remote.

Rated 5 out of 5 by stillwaterok Perfect for purpose
I purchased this primarily for back-up lighting during power-outage and to take to shelter during tornado season. Liked the options for using as a table lamp or hanging (globe does come off and on smoothly, if that is important to you). Perfect size for us & I will likely use the remote independently vs. as remote. Test run indoors - provided ample light - much more than I expected, like the variable brightness & nightlight option. Hope I never have to use the SOS signal or the 30 day use features. ;-). Chose this one based on other reviews and I'm pleased.
