Just back from SD, and the chaps were light enough to wear all day and performed well. Excellent value for the price paid.

I have used these briar chaps in Northern New England for part of a season of upland hunting. They do turn away 99.9% of thorns. I doubt they would be sufficient for southwestern scrub forests, but they have performed well for New England thus far.
They do not show much wear even though they have been used for several hard days.
The fit is fairly wide in the legs and the straps are long. I like my chaps to cover the maximum amount of leg so i wrapped the straps one around my belt and then cross snapped them, otherwise they are too long. I ordered a regular length and i am 5'10.
As others have mentioned the zippers do come open a bit after pushing though a lot of brush. Bottom tabs to keep the zipper down would greatly improve these chaps.
They are certainly water resistant but consider that an added bonus because they are certainly not water proof. it is the fabric and the tightness of the weave that makes them resistant to water. If you are pushing through wet brush for hours on end in the rain expect to get wet.
Taking that all into account, they certainly do the job for New England upland habitat and am very happy to have them. they are lightweight and easy to put on/take off.

I always prefer chaps over pants, as I can take them off easily, wear them with different thickness of pants, and cover them in tick repellant and not be driving and eating with them on! These are very lite-weight, and can fit a variety of inseams. I looked at many chaps from different companies and these had the best reviews. The zippers are great for getting them over your boots. These will do you well in eastern US!

I bought these for a quail hunting trip in west texas. They were penetrated by dozens of cactus thorns over the three days. I am sure they stopped more than one in a million thorns, but I came home with punctures in both knees and pulling cactus needles out of my legs. Particularly bad were dog cactus which attack from the back of the leg (which was less thick than the front), and very small but sturdy thorns like christmas cactus and prickly pear. They worked great for briar type vegitation like acacia, mesquite, all thorn, etc. So overall better than jeans, but not as good as the more expensive chaps worn by others in the party who seemed to get some amusment out of watching me take my pants off in the middle of the pasture to pull thorns out of my knees. If you are going into the cactus with these bring a pair of tweezers. Not all bad, but not good enough for the chiahuahuan desert nastyness.

These chaps are exactly as advertised. They are light weight and good protection against aggressive briars. The dual straps allow for size adjustments and securely keep chaps attached to my belt (unlike other chaps I've worn). Moisture protection seems good, however I haven't used in real wet brush yet. One improvement I'd recommend is a snap at the bottom of the leg--I had a zipper work partially up the leg after a few hours in heavy brush.
Definitely worth the money.

Really good chaps. Wore over my jeans while pheasant hunting. Never felt a single thorn, dig or scratch. They were comfortable, didn't even notice that I had them on. When I was done hunting, three hours later on several occasions, the chaps were wet but my jeans were not.

I wore my chaps for the first time to do some timber stand improvement on my timber. It stood up great to walking through the tough stuff and briars. The talls fit me great and cover my boot laces and I am 6 foot 4 inches. I did notice that it doesn't breathe and I was slightly damp on the inside. I was also surprised that they picked up beggar lice. Other wise I am very satisfied.

WISH I WOULD HAVE HAD THESE CHAPS LONG AGO. I USE THEM WHEN I FIRE UP MY HIGH POWERED BUSH/WEED TRIMMER. THEY ABSORB THE STING OF THE SMALL STONES , ETC AS WELL AS KEEP THE GRASS/WEEDS OFF MY LEVIS.
ON A HOT DAY IT GETS A LITTLE TOO WARM, WHERE THE SUN DOESN'T SHINE.
