Rated 5 out of 5 by MADMainiac Excellent day hiker
I have had a number of hiking boots from LL over the years, both day hikers and heavy-duty long-hikers. LL-brand shoes have been good, but tend to run narrow and never quite fit me properly. While in the Freeport store last summer, I had a long discussion with some of the staff and they suggested these shoes. I had previously purchased Salomon's Quest 4D GTX hikers and had some issues prior to making an adjustment (see separate review), but these fit well (better than the LL hikers) and were very "sticky" on the fake rock surface in the store, so I went with them. Now having lived with them for nearly a year, I am a very happy camper (well, hiker, I guess). I have used them for all-day hikes in Acadia and the Eastern mountains on roots, rocks, and granite surfaces as well as in the dust or mud (depending upon season) of trails in the coastal range of California. I frequently hike 15 to 30 miles a day and climb 2500 to 5000 feet, and these boots have made these hikes thoroughly enjoyable. They are light, supportive, and very sure-footed. So far, I have over 400 miles on them, they have shown no problems, and I have grown increasingly satisfied.
As you may have noticed from the pictures, the lacing is extremely convenient, quite ingenious, and very easy to use (although a little unusual), but I do wonder what will happen when it finally fails.
