I exchanged these boots for an older pair that were too big (sized a 10, but honestly fit like a 12 or 13). As an avid Beaner, I was very excited to receive these and try 'em out. After ordering them on a Wednesday night, they arrived promptly on Friday morning.
I'm a true 10, with semi-wide feet. I figured I'd test the reviews and order my true size - good call. They were a bit snug width-wise during the first and second wear, but after spending 2 full days at work in them, they loosened up and now fit perfectly. They aren't big and clunky, so I'm able to wear them with jeans and trek down to the grocery store/bars/etc without having to worry about looking weird (I live in Boston, and having solid, waterproof boots this winter was a must).
They're pretty warm, and the rating on the Bean at 0 degrees is pretty accurate. My toes seem to get cold and then warm up, I'm guessing because any amount of sweat will cool down once you go outside. But they do keep me warm.
Waterproof is a check, as I can walk through puddles, snow, slush, etc with no issues.
The laces are great, and just long enough without being cumbersome. I've read some complaints about the lace hook digging in to peoples' legs, but I haven't experienced that. As long as the tongue is tucked under them, this shouldn't be an issue.
The only complaint (if you can call it that), is the tongue. the design makes it impossible to slip these on without using your hands. You won't be able to just step into them without grabbing the tongue and finger loop at the back to pull them onto your feet. But, a small price to pay to keep the integrity of the waterproofing.
All in all, for the price, I would recommend them to anyone looking for a simple winter boot for daily winter activities.

Rated 3 out of 5 by quant42 Problems with the hook loop
The hook loops at the top sticks out to far. When I first got the boots (Jan 2014), the outer edge of the hook loops kept catching on the inside of my pants and is some cases tearing the inside stitching. This occurred when I sat down. The pants are Bean heavy wool pants. I used pliars to close the hook to the point that there is just enough of an opening for the laces. That solved the problem most of the time, but not always. I am rating the boots three stars to send a message to Bean to pay attention to the design. My New Balance 967 shoes have hook loops at the top. Their hooks curve inward with just enough opening for the laces.
Otherwise the boots are great. I walk 3/4 of a mile from the subway to my office and the insulation keeps my toes from freezing when the temperature is in the single digits. The water resistance is great for wintery mixes and a couple of inches of snow.

My husband LOVES these boots. He says they are the best boots he's ever owned! They are warm and seem to be waterproof so far. They were true to size...he wears a 9 1/2 and that size fit him perfectly.

I've been wearing a pair of L.L. Bean Storm Chasers for about ten years, and have loved them. The rubber upper on the right boot began to fail right where it the foot bends while walking, so it's no longer waterproof. I guess I could have simply returned the boots to Bean, but I couldn't bring myself to say that I was dissatisfied with a boot that lasted that long. Instead I ordered a replacement, a brand new set of Storm Chasers. Long story short: I returned them immediately. They have a much cheaper feel than my old ones. The leather band at the top of my boots has been replaced with a nylon of some kind, the same material that now lines the boot instead of the much nicer feeling fleece inside the old boots. They simply were of noticeably lower materials when compared to the older model. I remain a big fan of Bean, but I won't be wearing Storm Chasers anymore.

I love these boots! Even in this unusually bitter cold Michigan winter these boots have kept my feet the warmest part of my body while out shoveling snow, snow and MORE snow!

Comfortable fit and keep feet dry. I work outside in a hot and humid climate where my shoes are constantly in water. These are a good choice for outdoor work boots in all climates.

Rated 4 out of 5 by JSP62 GREAT!!!
The current two pairs of boots I have didn't fair well with keeping out water with the recent Dec/Jan storms. I had a couple days of soggy socks for those rain storms. I knew I wanted to purchase these boots, but the day after the storm, all sizes were sold out! Guess great minds think alike. I was happy to get my order in and get my new boots that keep out the water. I've worn them a few times already and they fit great. I haven't tested how good they keep out water, but if the LL Bean product is as good as the LL Bean rain jacket I still wear after over 10 years then I think I will be good. THANKS!

My husband and I each ordered a pair in our regular sizes, a men's 11 for him and a woman's 8 for me. We both found the toe box too narrow, so we returned both pairs. He probably needed a wide, and we each should have ordered a half size longer. The shoe was well made, but we will try again with a different style.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Kat28 Comfortable, waterproof boots!
Great boots! The only reason they didn't get 5 stars is that the toes could be warmer. Got these as a gift for my husband and he loves them but voiced that as his only complaint. Guess you give up some of the warmth with the rubber, waterproofing but if you could find a way to do both, then it would be perfect!

Boots seem very well constructed, with double or triple stitching. Good amount of waterproofing and traction. Warm in temperatures down to 20F. Comfortable, except for some pinching at ankle, which I chalk up to me not wearing boots often, but it may be good to try these on in the store just to make sure they don't bother you. I havent worn them much, but they appear very durable. I bought via internet. I have worn these boots five times, so take review with a grain of salt.
