I absolutely love this jacket. Have used in -6F and with just a tshirt underneath and was totally fine. I am 5'4/130lbs and the Misses XS is a perfect fit-- I can still put a couple of thinner layers underneath. The hood is perfect and the drawstrings keep it on well, the hand warmer pockets are effective.
I used it last year in the San Francisco bay area in winter without overheating, as well as snowstorms in Wisconsin :)
The only downside is that for travel, this jacket obviously doesn't pack down small-- I just carry it on the plane and hold it in my lap.
I definitely recommend this jacket to friends!

This is not as warm as a previous coat. At this time it has not gotten that cold. The zipper is a man's not a woman's. In all other coats and jackets I have, you hold the right side and insert the left side in zipper. It is very hard to insert zipper and use it. It is comfortable.

A freaky snowstorm dumped wet, thick rain/snow on Chicago; I was outdoors through all of it for three hours! The coat kept me warm and stayed completely dry!! My leather purse was soaked but my coat stayed dry!! and Warm! LOVE IT!!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by PWCLover I solved the zipper problem
I have wanted to purchase this coat but returned it last year after struggling with the zipper. I decided to try again this year, hoping LL Bean had improved the zipper after all the negative reviews. I really don?t think it?s much better but I have found a way to zip the coat that actually works! In the past, my left hand would hold ? or should I say press ? the top and bottom pull tabs together and then I?d take my right hand and attempt to slide the insertion pin through the top and bottom slider bodies. This was always a struggle and the insertion pin would get stuck so I was never able to zip.
Now I don?t struggle. I just use my right hand to direct the insertion pin so that it slides through the top and bottom slider bodies. I don?t use my left hand to hold the pull tabs to stabilize the slider bodies. I just let them hang loose and let the insertion pin move through them on its own ? which it does. It doesn?t get stuck and I?m able to zip the coat.
I have the Winter Warmer Jacket which has been great for dog walking and I look forward to the added warmth and protection this coat will provide with its longer length. I usually wear Petite XS in LL Bean clothing but I choose to purchase the Petite S in jackets so that I have extra room for layers.

Rated 3 out of 5 by AH2014 A warm, vegan coat, but dowdy
I've been looking for a warm winter coat that does not incorporate animal products. This coat fits that bill but sacrifices style. It's boxy and shapeless and the draw strings don't help. I do wish LL Bean would make a better tailored version of this coat.

Rated 4 out of 5 by kvas Very warm and Cozy Coat with few small issues
I bought this jacket for regular daily use in New Hampshire where winters are brutal. I did lot of market research before finalizing on this product. So here are my views. I am writing with a plan to help with information which I didn't find in other reviews or where others reviews I feel were very one sided.
Firstly let me say what I feel about zipper:
Is it a problem?? Yes and No...
It is not easy to put on the zipper or take it off when one uses it the first few times. There is trick to it and with a little practice it gets as comfortable as any other zipper. I suggest trying the zipper without putting the jacket on first.
I am 5' 2" and 135 lbs. I am no where close to being skinny. I am fit and broad framed for my height. I wanted to wear this coat with one or two layers beneath during peak winters. So considering everything I ordered Petite size M and it turned to be too big for me. So I exchanged and ordered Petite S.To my surprise even that was big but much better than M. Though I feel XS would be better I feel I might not be able to add more than one middle layer with XS. So I am keeping S.
I think as given in description this coat is manufactured with the
idea that it will be worn with middle layers. So there is more
room than expected. If you usually buy a jacket/coat of size S then go for the same size even if you plan to wear with middle layers. I made the mistake of going one size up for accommodating extra layers and had to exchange it.
I ordered Molten Red because it was on discount. My first choice was blue or teal. But I decided to try red and I am glad I did. It is not too bright and gave me a nice cheerful feeling when I wore it. My two year old was very excited to see me in brighter than usual color :).
I admit this is not the most stylish coat around. But for the price and quality I love it. I usually give preference to quality and value for money more than the style. If you are very style conscious person then this is not for you.
I haven't yet tried this coat during peak winter but it felt toasty with only a thin t-shirt inside at 20 degrees. I am sure it will be what I am looking for to face the winter. Waiting for winter now :).

Rated 4 out of 5 by agkenne Nice coat, with one little problem (for me)
This is a really nice coat! It's long enough (goes almost to my knees), has deep pockets, and a nice fleecy lining. It's a pretty color, and I really like the material in the water-resistant shell. The only problem I have is that I'm kind of short, and I guess I have short (t-rex) arms. Anyway, I have a hard time reaching the bottom of the zipper to get the coat zipped up fast enough to take the dog for his walk. When he has to go, he has to go NOW! Anyway, the coat has a set of snaps that partly make up for that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by wifeofPastor Great for dog walking
This coat is just what I need for Sierra Nevada foothill weather as the temps have cooled down. Right now I am using it to walk the dog in the early a.m.. It keeps me warm and protected from misty mornings. Regarding the zipper: I have had some difficulty getting it zipped but it is not because of the zipper. It is because the fabric is so stiff it is difficult to attach with my osteoarthritic fingers. I have learned that if I fold both sides of the coat back, I can zip it right up. In this way the fabric is not "fighting back" and it is easy to attach both sides of the zipper.

Rated 5 out of 5 by AxesRattt LOVE this coat!
When the coat arrived, I was at work and my husband texted that "the package feels very light." This left me a bit skeptical of what I'd discover about the new coat once I got home.Well, it wasn't that light, but it was lighter than I had expected.
I tried the coat on immediately and the fit was PERFECT. I ordered it a size larger so that when we get those really bitterly cold days, I could wear a hoodie comfortably.
Wouldn't you know it!? But we've had unseasonably WARM weather thus far, so today was the first day it was actually cold enough to try it out. I was happily surprised!!
The coat is very comfortable to wear and much warmer than appearances. The zipper is solid, the snaps are great and the hood fits snug but not too snug. When it's really cold, I like to wear a hoodie for the extra warmth for my head, and this will work perfectly for that.
Some of the reviewers have made some interesting comments. Two stuck out prominently when before I placed the order.
"Noisy!" Yes, it does make a "crinkling sound" but that's to be expected with this type of coat. It's actually not that loud and the material on the outside, those "wind resistant" is softer than most similar materials.
"Zipper Problems" The zipper worked fine for me. Lift the two sides of the coat up, slide the one side in, zip it up. Worked effortlessly, the first day I tried it on and today as well in actual use of the coat.
The real test will be when we reach those bitter temperatures but the coat feels like it will be quite warm even then.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Sasha82 Perfect for me
This coat is perfect for me. I am 5'9" with long arms, and I usually wear a medium. The medium is roomy, which is what I desired. The coat is beautiful and practical too, in terms of its quality of production and the details that will keep me warm. The fleece inside is an added comfort. I have been looking for a well-made, comfortable coat that was not too big and bulky, but big enough to allow for sweaters or even a vest underneath.
