Rated 5 out of 5 by tmblr LOVE it.
I absolutely love this jacket. Have used in -6F and with just a tshirt underneath and was totally fine. I am 5'4/130lbs and the Misses XS is a perfect fit-- I can still put a couple of thinner layers underneath. The hood is perfect and the drawstrings keep it on well, the hand warmer pockets are effective.
I used it last year in the San Francisco bay area in winter without overheating, as well as snowstorms in Wisconsin :)
The only downside is that for travel, this jacket obviously doesn't pack down small-- I just carry it on the plane and hold it in my lap.
I definitely recommend this jacket to friends!

Rated 1 out of 5 by WanderingColoradoGirl Everything but the zipper is great
I bought this coat as a walking-the-dog coat. It is warm and comfortable but the zipper is beyond bad. it would take me 2-5 minutes just to zip it up before it broke. While I searched for another dog-walking coat, I had to climb in and out of it. It just went back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Abbeyroad Winter Warmer Coat
I was looking for an alternative to my ski jacket that would be a little longer for dog walking. I believe I have found it in this coat! I read all of the reviews and ordered a couple of different sizes to be sure. My usual "small" fit me very well and I haven't noticed any problem with the zipper or a strange odor to the fabric. This coat is a great value for the quality. It's well made and I believe it will serve me for years to come.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Thrice Thoughtful design, thoughtless wearing
This is the third Winter Warmer coat I have owned. it has the durability I expect from the L.L. Bean label, and I abuse my coats, so that is saying something. The nylon outer shell is tough, and abrasion resistant--great for gathering firewood.
I had a brief foray into the coats and jackets of high-end "adventurer" labels, but found them to be wanting. I reach for my trusty Winter Warmer, because I know I can wear it thoughtlessly--I don't have to worry about damaging it, and I'll be warm and dry for whatever weather I encounter.
It has become a game for me to see what fits in these deep pockets. I can put a bottle of Maine's best and favorite water in one and an L.L Bean retractable dog leash with flashlight in the other and still zip the pockets!
I may be practically-minded in my expectations of a coat's function, but I wouldn't call the fashion police on the Winter Warmer either. Princess seams and an adjustable waist, plus the long length lend a slimming effect. And I do like all the stitching--makes for a tailored fit.
I have experimented with outdoor apparel for many years, and finally found the coat that does it all. I'm going to grab my Winter Warmer now, work outside for an hour or so, then hike in Acadia and shop in Bar Harbor after. . .

Rated 5 out of 5 by NewNorthCarolinian Zip carefully!
We recently moved to North Carolina from Iowa, and I gave away ALL my heavy winter coats!! Discovered I did indeed need a winter coat, and purchased this in teal. I LOVE it! Yes, the zipper is a little bit tricky, but you just have to hold the bottom. It is perfect for the North Carolina winter, as we get frequent rain. It actually feels lightweight to me for how warm it is- love the deep pockets and the hood. Highly recommend this coat.

I am a size 14, I purchased a size Large in the longer length coat and the fit is perfect! I have long arms and the sleeves are perfect also. The zipper, as mentioned by others, can be a pain, just takes patience. I bought this to replace a similar coat and the only thing I really don't like is the fleece in the hood. I would have preferred just material or a little quilting...fleece tends to flatten hair!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Parmathule The almost nearly perfect coat
I read all the reviews about this coat before purchasing it, and almost didn't purchase it because of some negative reviews. Complaints included that it smelled funny and that the zipper was unuseable. I'm very sensitive to odors, but never noticed one. As for the zipper, it just takes a little practice, and then it's a cinch (hold both sides firmly from the bottom while pulling up). Some said the zippers on the pockets scraped their hands, but I haven't found that to be a problem. I'm glad to have the zippers so as to be able to secure things from falling out (although the pockets are nice and deep, so that's not a big worry either). And I love the little inside pocket at upper chest level, which also zips closed!
Some have complained that the coat, because of the material it's made of, is a little noisy. Okay, that's true when your arms are swinging back and forth. It's not a big deal for me, and if you put your hands in your pockets, problem solved!
The issue of sizing is always nerve-wracking. I took a chance and got an extra small petite, which turned out to be perfect for sleeve length and fit. I'm 5'2" and 115 lbs. I had hoped for the overall length to be closer to my knees, but it's just a couple inches below my fingertips with my arms down. Still, it's better coverage than a jacket in rain. And the sleeves have a little internal flap gizmo at the wrist which keeps cold air out--nice!
I bought the coat in black and am happy with that choice. The only other color I considered was toasted almond, as I prefer subdued colors. In the end I liked the fact that in black the sewing details didn't show up as much (pockets, waist cincher channel thingy, etc) so that the coat can look a little more dressy. Dirt will be less of a problem, too--but cat fur more of a problem!
I plan to take this coat with me when I travel to Scandinavia. I will probably not need it all the time, but it's very lightweight and compact so even traveling with only one carry-on bag as luggage, I expect to manage with the help of a "flat pack" compressible clothing bag.
This coat is very warm, and totally waterproof. I live in the high desert and it gets COLD here. This winter has been particularly wet, too. This coat has served me well.
My one and only complaint is that the hood is too small. That is a big bummer for me, since, for instance, if my hair is in a bun, a lot of my head is exposed (the hair taking up some of the hood space). It seems like a child-sized hood on a coat meant for adults. Very strange. But I'm not sorry I bought the coat. Only sorry that it couldn't have been closer to perfect with a normal sized hood.

bought this coat in the 'real violet', as i use it for hiking and especially dog walking, so i can be seen. this is certainly a great buy...it is totally waterproof... found that out already; very comfortable to wear; fabulously large pockets; zippers on inner and outer pockets; cozy hood with adjustment. what's not to like?

I ordered my usual size of PS and the fit is good. I ordered the teal blue and love the color! Have had compliments. It is not as warm as I had hoped but with an extra layer it's fine. The zipper is a bit of a pain but can be done with practice and patience. I would recommend this coat in spite of the minor drawbacks. I prefer the longer length in cold weather.
