Rated 5 out of 5 by tmblr LOVE it.
I absolutely love this jacket. Have used in -6F and with just a tshirt underneath and was totally fine. I am 5'4/130lbs and the Misses XS is a perfect fit-- I can still put a couple of thinner layers underneath. The hood is perfect and the drawstrings keep it on well, the hand warmer pockets are effective.
I used it last year in the San Francisco bay area in winter without overheating, as well as snowstorms in Wisconsin :)
The only downside is that for travel, this jacket obviously doesn't pack down small-- I just carry it on the plane and hold it in my lap.
I definitely recommend this jacket to friends!

LOVE this coat; the violet color, the warmth, the price and it doubles as a raincoat, too! I ordered one size larger and I'm glad I did. I like to wear a sweater or sweatshirt underneath and it accommodates me. I'm a plus size person (18-20) and 1X may have been fine for just walking the dogs, but for in the car, I like more room, so I purchased the 2X. I can't wait to try it out on the expected cold, rainy, damp Autumn days in NEPA; let alone the Winter!!! I'll be set. Thank you!! :o)

Rated 4 out of 5 by Verified Reviewer Beautiful & Practical - Some Details Missing
I am 5'3 and 200lbs, carrying most of my weight in my stomach and hips. After ordering the 3X and receiving it - I had to exchange this coat for the 2X and it still runs a bit big.
The fit is comfortable and very flattering. This jacket might not be for the "trend-minded woman", but rather the woman who appreciates craftsmanship, attention-to-detail and a comfortable fit, especially during the months of inclement weather.
The jacket is lighter than a down-filled parka, yet sturdy enough to take on a Canadian winter. The hood sits high and hangs over a bit and the length of the 2X on a 5'3 lady comes just above the knee caps. The sleeve length had me worried, but fits comfortably. The bottom of this coat is definitely "bell shaped" - in the main photo on the site here, it looks a lot more tapered but for the actual product, the bottom flares out a bit. The arms and back run standard in fit and below the chest, you will start to feel a more forgiving fit - perfect to wear a sweater or bulky scarf.
The lining in the coat is warm and not "cheap feeling" - in fact, the whole coat is absolutely beautiful. I look forward to wearing this jacket this winter.
I scoured the reviews on this jacket and all the mention of the zipper, is definitely not an issue. Being as this is a longer coat, it may take a moment or two to do up, but I am not concerned.
Overall, living in Ontario, Canada, the shipping for the exchange took a month and as soon as the 3X was received to L.L. Bean, I received my 2X immediately.
I will recommend this jacket to all women and will continue to shop with L.L.Bean in future. Their customer service is phenomenal!

Rated 3 out of 5 by Leo1993 If only the zipper were functional!
I had similar experiences to those of the other reviewers with this coat. As others have mentioned, the zipper worked as it should for about the first month and a half of wear. One day, the zipper started to split from the bottom; after that, it followed suit every time I wore it. About three months after I purchased it, the bottom zipper pull fell off completely! I utilized the snaps to get me through the remainder of the winter.
The coat itself is very warm and does a nice job of repelling water. I am a teacher and it saw me through many bitter outdoor recesses in spite of the zipper issues. The coat's length, cut, and fabric lend itself to be a dressier coat, one that I can wear to work and more casual evening events in the winter and still stay warm. It's a shame that the zipper is not of good quality!
I will be exchanging the coat for a new one--fingers crossed that the zipper works!

Rated 2 out of 5 by skier96 Disappointed in this Coat
I bought this coat after the brutal winter we had in Boston in 2015, in need of a warmer coat that was waterproof, and also came with a hood. While I had read reviews regarding the zipper, I had faith in the coat and purchased it anyway prior to last winter, as it was such a good deal. Shame on me! At first I didn't have a problem with the zipper much, but as time went on and I used the coat more, the sticking began! It wouldn't be normally be much of a problem, but when I'm getting out of my car in the New England cold, fiddling with my zipper for a few minutes is a big deal.
I also found the coat to be not as warm as it has said to be. I'm not sure if it's me being naturally cold, but even in 20-30 degree F weather and wearing a thick sweater underneath, I still found myself shivering. Disappointed in this coat overall.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Skysailor When the zipper gets damp...
It jams. I read the reviews on this coat, and there were concerns about the zipper. But the one I had was okay.. I thought. The coat is sold as being water resistant.. not great, but it is to some extent. The problem comes when it gets damp.. if the fabric isn't stiff it jams and dampness softens the material. To get free of the jam, I had to take the coat off and work the zipper for a few minutes. The coat is going back because of this reason. If you live in a cold desert climate.. it would be great.

Rated 3 out of 5 by sparkle9152 Nice, but not me
This coat made me look like an old lady. It also runs large so that was a double whammy.
A previous reviewer had commented on the difficult zipper which seemed odd when I read it, but its true. The fabric near the bottom of the zipper gets in the way and it is hard to zip up. The coat is also very long (I am 5'5") so its almost out of reach.
It did seem warm and was made well, but it wasn't for me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by PersonalStyle Well made but didn't fit my lifestyle
I wanted to just snap and go; but without zipping the zipper, all the snaps came open as I got out of the car. I liked the convenient hood protecting my neck; but I did not like being buried under the low lying top on my forehead.
This year I bought boiled wool jackets and wore them over vintage wool sweaters. With scarves and hats, I had more flexibility as I ran about doing errands.
It will be a lovely coat for the donation bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by economyclass Just right for mud season
I wear this coat a lot in the fall and spring and warmer winter days when it's too cold for an uninsulated raincoat, but not cold enough to snow. The hood is a little "shallow", as reviewers have mentioned, but usually I wear a hat anyway. The hood is functional, though, when the weather's not too rough. This is a great in-between coat for New England's famously variable weather.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Moose3smc The Zipper!!
This coat is great...but the zipper is extremely difficult. It is on the opposite side than all of my other coats and always gets snagged. I even had other people try to zip me up and they had issues so it's not just me! Such a bummer b/c the coat is otherwise great. I know myself and I won't get used to it so I had to return it...such a bummer!
