Rated 4 out of 5 by Mag2219 Good quality with some minor issues to be aware of
Ordered the jacket in Ink Blue, and when it arrived it was more purple than anything. The coat is very good quality, the inside jacket is wearable in warmer whether which is a great addition! Normally ordering a winter coat, I'd oder a L to be able to fit sweatshirts/sweaters underneath, thankfully I ordered a M which is still slightly large on myself. The reason why it seems bigger than normal is because the coat is made to fit very boxy on the body - I'm looking to return the jacket and try a S. Other than the boxiness and largeness, definite recommendation - very warm, insulated, nice material, and cute!!!

I really, really wanted to like this jacket. I really, really wanted to keep it. However, at 5'3" (125-ish lbs) I did not need to keep a clothing item that made me look like Fred Flintstone.
The fit was extremely boxy - a small was way too roomy. It was also shorter on the hip than I anticipated too. It is definitely not in any way "fitted" as mentioned in the description.
The price was excellent and the material was beautiful. Unfortunately, I had to purchase a more expensive jacket from a different vendor. C'est la vie!

Rated 4 out of 5 by cindy33g pretty jacket, sizing not good for me
I liked the jacket but ended up not keeping it. It had a nice subtle pattern and soft color and good feel. I first ordered a regular medium and it was too big all over. So I ordered a regular small...it was still roomier than I would like in the body but tightish across the shoulders, sleeves too long. I gave it 4 stars because being able to have a petite might have helped (they were sold out) for me so I didn't want to completely blame the off fit on the jacket.

Rated 3 out of 5 by mhr123 Boxy fit, lacked technical features
On the plus side, this is an affordable waterproof 3-in-1, as they can be quite pricey. The printed-on texture gives the color a muted look, and I liked the purple orchid color.
The fit was beyond boxy on my hourglass shape. I fall between medium and large in L.L.Bean, and I am tall, size 10-12 with broad shoulders and hips. To make sure that I had enough room to layer and move, I ordered the large. It fit just right across the shoulders, but didn't even skim my hips. Tightening the drawstring just made the whole thing puff out. The seaming hinted at a more fitted shape, even though the actual cut didn't, which means it might flatter someone with more of an apple shape. I wasn't confident that the medium would be the right fit for me either. I saw the comments indicating boxiness, but some of the more recent ones indicated that this might have been addressed this season. Perhaps there are still two versions out there with different fits.
The outer fabric has a very smooth texture (the denim-like texture is printed on), similar to some rain gear I've owned. I was looking for a more technical winter sports jacket, and I wasn't confident that this would have the durability or breathability that I was looking for. In other words, I'm going to be carrying my skis around on my shoulder at least weekly through March, hiking, snow shoeing, getting poked by branches, sweating in it, and washing it fairly often. It also lacked features that I would prefer, such as a powder skirt and ventilation. I usually keep my coats for a long time, and my budget allows for something better suited to my activities and usage. This was worth a try, and fit aside, it would have been just fine for around-town use, with the occasional ski trip. It's just not the coat I'm looking for.

Rated 4 out of 5 by TravelingH2 Great 3-1 jacket
Purchased this jacket for trip to Lake Tahoe in December. Jacket performed well as a ski coat. I also need a jacket for warmer temperatures in Las Vegas. I was concerned about the inner jacket not being a fleece as in other 3-1 jackets, but the quilted inner liner worked great as a casual jacket and was very comfortable and stylish. I agree with other reviews that the ink color is much more purple than it appears online. Nice details on the coat to make it more femine. My only compliants were a sticky zipper on the inner liner and no loop to attach ski pass.

My husband and I just climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, and we both wore L.L. Bean's 3-n-1 coat. We experienced every weather condition from hot and rainy in the jungle to very cold at the summit and the coat's versatility made it work for every condition. Plus it was light-weight and packs well. I normally wear a small, but I ordered a medium so that I could wear layers underneath, and it worked perfectly. It's also an attractive coat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MOgrandma Love This Coat!
I am 67, 5 ft 10 1/2 inches tall, 160 pounds. I first ordered this jacket in XL because I am so tall, and the coat was gigantic. The sleeves came down to the knuckles on my hands, and the hood came down over my eyeglasses. A very helpful salesperson helped me exchange it for a L which fits great. I really really love this coat, which becomes 2 coats if you separate the liner and the outer jacket. The stitching on the liner jacket is especially beautiful. I wasn't sure at first if I would like the purple orchid color, but usually when someone new sees me in this coat, I immediately receive compliments. I have never written a review before, but I wanted to help others with the sizing. I wish more people would tell their height and weight and the size they ordered. It would help others be more sure about the fit. Watch the video about this coat. It shows a lot about the great features.

Rated 4 out of 5 by momof3ojh nice jacket but color not as shown
I bought the blue ink....should be called deep purple or blue-violet, because it's much more of a purple than a blue. It's still a nice color, but I'm more traditional and practical, and prefer my coats and jackets to be in more neutral, go-with-everything colors. I'm returning it for the black coffee. Aside from the color, this is a very nice jacket, not at all bulky, fits nicely with room to spare but not sloppy. I ordered a medium, my normal size in most everything, and this is a perfect fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by BackPackQueen Love this jacket, but sizing is odd..
Originally this jacket was purchased for me as a Christmas gift. My fiance bought a medium, and when I received it it was huge. I took it to a local LL Bean outlet to exchange for a small. When I tried the small on in store it was very small. I thought it was odd that there was such a big difference in the two sizes, so I tried on a medium in store. The in-store medium was perfect! The item numbers on the jacket purchased online and the one in store were actually different even though they were the same jacket and labeled the same size. I'm thinking that LL Bean made a new version of the jacket after reading reviews that it's fit was very small. The new version that I received from the online purchase is true to the sizing chart (medium= 10-12). The older version that I bought at the outlet was definitely more fitted. I am 5'5" and 140lbs and it is quite fitted, but that's how I want it. Hope this information is helpful!

I got a Mt Laurel Jacket several years ago and have worn it lots since. I got a L (I'm 5'6", 135 lbs) and have plenty of room for layering, and I don't think it looks too large on me (maybe being slim helps!). I recently also got a M in a different color, which fits great, as it,looks a bit trimmer on me. Love them both. They are quite warm, but some days I need a bit more underneath, so I wear my L. Another great LL Bean product !!
