Rated 5 out of 5áby dfrith Christmas Is Coming
Last year at Christmas for our Grand Daughter we purchased an L.L. Bean Backpack. As with most L.L. Bean products it is almost indestructible even though our loved one has put it through a torture test as teenagers tend to do.
For this Christmas (2013) there was little doubt where out Grandson's new Backpack would come from. L.L. Bean.

Rated 5 out of 5áby HappyBackpacker Quality, well-made back pack that will last!
I LOVE this backpack!! It seems that every year I need to buy my son a new backpack for school because it is torn and shredded by the end of the year. This year, I decided to look for a better quality one that would last made by a company that would stand behind the product. This LL Bean backpack fits the bill! The fabric is so thick and sturdy. The styling is great and the pockets are very useful. While I wasn't quite sure at first about the open expandable part (wouldn't items just get lost?), it has proved invaluable! It is the perfect place to pack a lunch every day with no risk of it falling out. It is also useful for shoes or cleats that my son needs to bring to school without getting the books and notebooks on the inside dirty. The only small downside is the main compartment is not quite as big as the last backpack he had, so when he has a lot of big notebooks to bring home, it can be kind of tight to get them in and out, but this downside is way outweighed by all of the upsides!

Rated 5 out of 5áby Lynne35 versatile, perfect size
My kids and family have used various LL Bean backpacks, bags, duffels over the last 30 years and this one is by far the most versatile. Big enough to hold everything necessary for school--even a laptop--but small enough to be easily managed. The extra non-zip middle section is very handy for stuffing hats or gloves without having to put them in with notebooks, etc.

I love the quality and the design. Once of the most comfortable backpacks... sits high so no back strain. Fits my t430 or my macbook pro 15 just fine.
Only issue I have is that there could be more small zipper pockets. There is only one and it ends up being a black hole with eye drops, earbuds, pens, pencils, medication, toothpaste, toothbrush, extra phone batteries, etc. Actually lost my badge for work for a week in that pocket.

Rated 5 out of 5áby GMond Surprisingly different
I needed a good backpack/organizer for a week long trek to NYC to attend an institute that required toting my iPad, books, papers, lunch, jacket, umbrella, water and a few additional personal items on a train, taxi and multiple subway rides. Having used various backpacks over the years, I was drawn to the sturdy construction (another word for LLBeans consistent quality) and the different compartments. Wearing a heavy load was surprisingly comfortable because of the positioning of the different sections. The open section in the middle made it very convenient to fold up my jacket, tuck in the umbrella, or quickly secure a notebook between events. For the first time I was able to locate my papers and materials quickly and efficiently. I would recommend this backpack for general use no matter what the age, but especially for those of us in career positions that need an alternative to a rolling cart for laptops and papers to attend conferences and business meetings.

My son is a Freshman in H.S. and had trouble fitting in all his textbooks and notebooks. Nice backpack, but couldn't quite make it work, so I purchased the larger LLbean Quad Pack,TC259822, and everything fits.

Love it!! Very roomy and comfortable, Keeps my 10 yo son organized and his books are not getting ruined, he carries everything he needs for school and after school in the bag. His back does not hurt him anymore. He loves the color combination.

Rated 5 out of 5áby TiffanyT All-in-one backpack
I purchased this backpack for my 12-year old son to use as his primary backpack for middle school. It is big enough to hold his books and binders but trendy enough to use for after school sports as well. We especially like the adjustable pocket area in the front. You can put a football in there (like in the picture) or cleats. He's carried everything from a snack to clothes in the front pocket. I would recommend it to anyone.

This bag is a marvel of modern engineering - truly.
I bought it originally to replace the cloth knapsack that I had been using to carry my lunch and various reading materials with me to and from work. I had looked over several other backpacks in the store, but this one really appealed to me because of all the compartments and pockets it had. I'll admit that I hadn't thoroughly examined it before bringing it to the counter to purchase and ship back to my house (which was a pleasant surprise, since I had expected to have to figure out some way of adding all this new stuff to my already over-filled luggage).
After the shipment arrived, I eagerly unpacked the bag and set about transferring all the contents of my old bag to my new one. That's when I discovered that this bag must have been designed by quantum physicist engineers, because the more I explored all the components, the more I seemed to find.
Lets start with the major sections:
The main zippered compartment is actually subdivided into three sections, with the rear-most "pocket" being generously padded to protect even an oversized laptop (with a second "pocket" attached to it); the open section in the middle, which spans the full depth of the bag so even my larger snap-lock containers could be set flat and stacked like tetris-cubes to easily carry up to three meals worth of food (!); and the front "pocket" of the same height as the rear, so that a full-size notebook or letter-sized papers can be easily slipped in and out without folding.
In front of that is another zippered compartment, just slightly smaller than the full height/width of the main compartment, which included a small "hanging" zippered pocket on the front-side large enough to hold a small notepad, keys, pens or other incidentals.
Between the middle compartment and the front compartment is an open, expandable section, held closed at the top by an adjustable clip. I like to toss my sunglasses, iPad or other need-to-have-handy items in there for quick and easy access.
The front zippered compartment is subdivided into a three-tiered pocket, two smaller pockets with velcro-closable flaps and a generous open section deep enough to fit a good-sized hard-cover book.
Then there are the two "hip" pockets on either side of the base of the bag made of very sturdy netting-type materials, which I like to use to stuff my empty travel-mug into to free up my hands so I can fish out my keys from the additional net-pocket attached to the left-hand strap!
Speaking of the straps, these are ergonomically curved and off-set, so that they comfortably rest on the shoulder and easily balance the bag, even when worn singly.
Frankly, I sometimes have to hunt through nearly the whole bag to find the things I've stashed away because I forget which compartment I've put them in!
This is an extraordinary bag, a great deal and with the LL Bean life-time guarantee, you really can't go wrong.
