Great backpack that excels in every area. It is deceivingly roomy when compared to the online picture and could hold much more gear than I anticipated. Great for day hikes, campus, or just looking cool.

Purchased for my son. He's a teenager. Not really big enough. Would highly recomend a larger bag for high school age.

My 13-year old son chose this bag for his school bag. He thinks this one is more stylish than the other book bags (e.g. LL Bean Deluxe Book Pack) which look more square shaped than this one. He is loving it since been purchased 3 weeks ago. It is large enough to carry all of the books, folders etc for a 7th grader. The bag is light weight and looks very well made. I expect it to last for a very long time.

This is an awesome backpack for day hikes or for traveling. It has lots of different compartments, and it seems to be very well made. I like the bungee cords on the front-- very useful feature.
Very good value considering the quality.

This pack is a great fit for my 5th grader. It is not too large and bulky but provides many pockets on the exterior for small school necessities. The bulk of the pack is 8 inches deep when full so this is not a "big" pack. The inside has partitions to organize, when one section is full, the other sections lose space. One 3 ring binder, big hard cover library book, wind/snow pants, snack bag and 6 folders and it is full.
The exterior straps are good to use with carabiners to attach stuff and can be used to easily attach a bulky coat, snow pants, etc.
Perfect for a day hike.
Reinforced bottom that is black is keeping it nice looking.
Zippers and pulls work very nicely.
If I could, I would change the waist strap: It has a plastic clip and when it is not in use (which is almost always) it is at the base of the back so that it is against the kids' tail bone. My daughter does not notice but maybe with just a Tshirt and a long wear, it may be an issue. Then again, if she were to need to wear it for a longer time, maybe she would use the waist strap and then the clip would be on the front. If LL Bean could change that clip, it would be a great improvement. If a kid uses the waist strap, there is no issue.

I like the mid size of this bag. I like all the pockets and different compartments. I wish the inside compartments had a stiffer structure along the tops so they don't sag. If I put an item in the main section I have to hold back the other sections to pass by them without catching. If you don't use the bottom hip strap and you leave it folded and clipped together, you will feel it pressing on your lower back. Haven't used it long enough to figure out a way to adjust it yet. Otherwise, enjoying it.

I love my backpack! I use it for long days on the college campus and it can hold 2 textbooks, 2 3" binders, 3 notebooks, my laptop and all the supplies that go with them. I even managed to fit lunch in there as well, but that was pushing it a bit. The small front pocket is just the right size for a phone and iPod. The only thing it needs is a few more pencil slots and stiffer inside pockets. The ones within the main pocket tend to catch on books when trying to get them in in a hurry. Overall, it's a great product and well worth the money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Va123 Great daypack
Quality materials and a good design. Many daypacks have too many compartments, zippers, and too much weight. Not so with the North Ridge.
Two of these day packs were purchased for lightweight travel. If you have learned how to travel light like we have with just 1 or 2 changes of clothes, this is just about the perfect daypack for your needs. It also does not scream American when abroad.
The pack features a large main compartment with padded divider and a hanging zippered compartment for valuables. The outer pocket features organization and a key fob. There is also a small fleece pocket for sunglasses or cameras.
External features include a tuck away waist strap, 2 mesh side pockets, and a mesh shoulder strap pouch for an MP3 player.
A great daypack I truly enjoy using.

I was in a bind and needed a backpack fast for the new quarter at school and this backpack was perfect! Sturdy, waterproof (handy here in the NW), tons of awesome pockets and a great color. I'm so pleased. Also, even when I'm carrying around all my school books it's built so well that it doesn't feel very heavy! Thanks LLBean!
