Initially purchased this apple peeler because of the LLBean reputation for good products even though it costs more than others listed on different sites.
The first shipment to me turned out to be a big disappointment right out of the box. It would not hold itself onto the counter top no matter what I tried. Additionally it would butcher the apples I tried to peel with it when someone else would hold it down just to see if it worked otherwise. I thought I could just get a different rubber suction mount if everything else worked fine. When I contacted LLBean with my concerns they quickly worked up another order to replace the one I had and said they would send me a shipping label, to return the first one, in the box with the second peeler. It surprised me a bit to note that they charged me for the second peeler and would then take off the charge for the first one when they received it back. I guess they thought that I was trying to get two peelers for the price of one and I figured they needed to cover themselves as well so I was not put out by the action.
Upon receiving the second peeler I was elated to find that it stuck to the counter top without much problem. However, I found that this peeler did not peel or core and cut the apples very much better than the first one. It worked a little bit better but not enough to feel that I had a keeper as it only worked cleanly about 60% of the time.
Admittedly, I am working with Macintosh apples that have been kept in the root cellar since last October when they were put in there. BUT, we have a Norpro Apple Master peeler which is older but still functions another 30% better than this brand new one. It only had trouble with less than 10% of the apples we put through it.
I initially liked the idea that this peeler is cast iron with a baked enamel coating and looked to be something that would/should last longer than the Norpro. What a disappointment that it had so much trouble.
I decided to try some different knives or peeling/cutting/coring blades before I would give up on this for good. I purchased a peeling blade and a coring/slicing blade (Victorio brand) for just under $4 each. This provided an instant improvement and has made the peeler function well enough that I will not bother to send it back and begin a search for another. There are so many out there and with such a varied difference of costs I did not want to have other trials and disappointments.
Even though the Norpro does not offer (to my knowledge) a peeler that is cast iron with the baked enamel coating I would now probably try theirs first before considering this peeler, especially since theirs costs less anyway than this one did.
LLBean should probably stick to shoes. I will probably buy a pair of their shoes/boots for my wife next Christmas.

I didn't realize it was supposed to peel potatoes, so I was excited to try it when I read the directions that said it did (we don't have apples right now). It made a couple of deep grooves in the potato and then the potato fell off, damaged at the end where it was affixed.
Also it was more flimsy and smaller than one I have used before. I will try it on an apple and send it back if it doesn't work. Too bad they didn't choose to sell a better quality device, even if it cost more.

If you ever want to peel, core & slice a bunch of apples for applesauce, apple pie, cake or any other recipe -- this a tool you need. It's worth the price just to show off to folks who've never seen one in action. A great gift for apple lovers

I haven't used the ones I bought on this last order, but they are Christmas gifts. I love the one I have so much that I want to share it too. This is a solid piece of equipment. Easy to operate and maintain. Yes, you should oil it occasionally.

Now THIS is what I'm talking about. I tried a cheap version of a similar looking apple peeler from another store. My mistake, it broke within a year.
The LLBean apple peeler is SO MUCH better. This one is substantial and well built. The coring device can move out of the way, so you can peel and slice potatoes quickly. The suction cup holds well to the countertop.
My family's favorite dessert is Apple Crisp. This device takes the work out of peeling and slicing the apples.
The little ones love to have their apple snack cut into one long spiral. So easy!
I certainly recommend this!

The Apple Peeling Gizmo was an excellent purchase. A friend recommended it and now I know why. What use to be a chore of peeling apples for my apple crisps and pies, now is fun and easy.
The apples are cored, peeled, and sliced so all I have to do is plop them in the pan.
The Gizmo is easy to clean and store.
I love it!! Don't know how I lived without it.

This little gizmo is such a time saver and works just like I remembered from 20 some years ago when my Dad and I tried it. It's easy to assemble and just as easy to use and clean...saves so much time. Makes pies and apple sauce a breeze to prepare.

I have had my Apple Peeling Gizmo for at least 15 years of apple pie making! I purchased this new one as a gift for my adult daughter. It is well-made and attaches easily to a countertop. It is easy to clean. It is also fun for kids; creating spiral apple slices as well as long curly strips of apple skins that are such fun to eat.

I love the way this peels but after the first day the bottom would not stick to my counter tops. I have to wet the rubber bottom down to get it to stick for just a few minutes. I am thinking of returning it because of this. I think there is another brand that begins with a V..if you want to buy one of these, google that brand and buy that one instead. It's been around forever.
