Rated 5 out of 5 by NewEnglandorBust Great coat, especially for travel.
I recently bought this coat for a fall trip to Europe. It was warm, did great on rainy days and most of all packed down to an almost unbelievable small size. I could carry it in my large purse with me wherever I went. Since I've been back home, I have continued to wear this coat every day. I'm not sure how warm it will be during a northeast winter, but it does great down to 40 degrees - as cold as it's been so far. For the fit, small pack size and function, this really can't be beat.

Rated 3 out of 5 by HockeyMomInMaine Needs to be a little longer.
I picked this coat out in the store before Christmas and I tried the long one and the 3/4 length one. The 3/4 length one seemed to be the best fit for everyday and even hockey rinks. I received it as a Christmas gift and I'm thrilled with the coat. It's soooo lightweight. I noticed a difference from my old wool coat right away - especially spending entire weekends at hockey rinks with my kids. My shoulders weren't sore.
My only complaint is that it's just a little too short. I wish it were about 3-4" longer and hit just above my knee. I'm 5'-9" and the XL fit great. The longer coat was too long for everyday (in and out of cars, etc...), but if the 3/4 length coat hit the top of the knee I would give this coat 5 stars. It would also stay put under my bottom when sitting in the stands or riding in the car and cover my thighs.
And for all the naysayers that say the coat isn't cinched at the waist - it is!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Westcoast2015 Great coat minus a hood
I LOVE this coat; it's light, warm and fits perfectly. I am 5'4" and weigh 145 lbs and I normally wear regular but for this coat a petit is perfect for me. The regular fit is not fitted and sleeves are too long.
The color Plum is good too. The only thing I wish for is a hood. It will be great if LLBean can add a hood for additional benefit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by NJVA Great new down coat
I bought this to replace my 6 year old ultra warm 650 down coat- was worried it wouldn't be as warm as my toasty old one- bought this new one in a medium so I could layer. It's plenty warm in the 40's - but in the 20's and 30's in a bitter cold wind I was cold- not so in the old coat. I put on my down sweater under this new coat- warm and toasty with a lot less bulk than wearing the old coat. I will never give up the old one but this new one is great- just layer up as needed. So very light. Highly recommend.

I purchased two of these coats, one in black and one in blue. Both have had the feathers poke out but the blue one when washed had the feathers tear through the fabric and ruin it. LL Bean took back the coat without any issues but there were no others coats in her size left for this season. It's a great light weight and warm coat but perhaps it was just flaw in the blue fabric. So far the black on is fine but we haven't need to wash it yet. I would say just proceed with caution. If they get the fabric issued fixed it's would be a great coat.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Spender2p Great coat, very comfortable
I bought this coat in black about 5 yrs ago. Love it, as it is
very warm and so comfortable. Last year bought it again in the
plum, same size. Ended up sending it back as it was not
as comfortable and the fit seemed shorter. This year ordered it
again in the blue, kept this one, love the color. However it
fits like the plum coat I returned. Seems shorter in length, sleeves
and even under the arms, like they cut it about an inch off in all dimensions. Still a great coat, just not as comfortable as the original!

Rated 5 out of 5 by EfficiencySeeker She Loves It
So, my wife has been searching for a coat this length for a while. She finally decided on this one. She has been wearing it non-stop walking in the neighborhood and wearing it to work since mid December. We have experienced some cold weather recently and a couple of snow storms. She told me even in 10 degree weather it has kept her warm (this woman never seems to be warm usually). Two of her friends have the same coat and also love it. No drawbacks so far. I would say this was worth the money. It is comparable with The Northface. Why choose LL Bean? The guarantee obviously and the level to which they stand behind what they sell. Sure, I want to support a business based in my state. But, quite honestly with every experience I have ever had with this company there is no reason to search any other first.

Rated 5 out of 5 by smalltownprofessional best every day winter coat
This coat exceeds my expectations. Some reviewers suggested that this coat is suitable for arctic subzero conditions. Not so. I have a no nonsense knee length parka with fur trimmed snorkel hood for those rare subzero arctic conditions.
The ultra light coat replaces what used to be called a "car coat". For years I wore a classic black thigh length pea coat. That coat attracted lint and animal hair, was loose and drafty at the neckline, and had no give. I needed something to replace it that was warm and longer than a jacket since I wear so many tunics with leggings.
This coat is perfect. I am 5'6" 165 lbs. and the size large was ideal. I did not need to size up as recommended. The coat is cut well enough that I can wear my heaviest sweater under it and it still fits fine. With regular mid weight clothing, it looks trim and flattering. I love it. It is easy to move in, and packs down to nothing if you are travelling. In lieu of a hood, I wear a #men's# lightweight polar fleece neck gator that scrunches like an attractive cowl scarf but can pull up to a hood when needed. It's grey, and compliments the coat perfectly. Paired with leggings or jeans and boots this coat has a terrific look.
Note: Last year I bought the short jacket version of this coat and it is perfect with jean and for cross country skiing. I added this coat for tunics and dressier looks. Everyone should have both!

Rated 5 out of 5 by ailurus Moved from the South to Boston
I moved from southern Virginia to Boston in December, worried that I was not going to survive my first winter up north. I went to LL Bean and was recommended this jacket by an employee who said customers would come back to the store and thank her for recommending this jacket. She said that even people walking in the wind through downtown Boston would agree this is warm. Since I knew I was doing a lot of walking around downtown Boston, I trusted her opinion and got it. I have had this jacket for about a month and a half and have yet to use a different jacket! It has kept me very warm with just a few layers underneath. I tend to run very cold, so I am very pleased!
If you want more leg cover, I would suggest the long one. I am 5'3" and got the XS and it falls to a little bit past my knees. I will say that I wish this jacket had a hood. But with my turtle skin scarf/face scarf and hat, I have been comfortable walking in 0 to 10-degree wind chills so far. I have not yet experienced heavy rain or snow, but in mild rain, my jacket dried nicely. I have washed it twice so far (I still haven't gotten a tennis ball for the dryer as the instructions suggest) and it has washed nicely. I wash and dry on the delicate cycle.

Rated 4 out of 5 by seabeecushman Beautifully made
I love the coat but not how it made me look. If there had been a size between x-large and large it may have fit better, but the large was too snug and the x-large looked too big, especially with the shape of the coat.
