My only regret is not purchasing this very warm jacket earlier in the season. I was shopping around and trying to choose the warmest and reasonably priced jacket for a while, and when I saw that this jacket is rated for -55, I couldn't resist. We have had a really bad winter this year in Ontario, Canada and not to mention extremely long one... this coat is my savior. I definitely recommend it. This was my first time purchasing an LLBean product, it has been a pleasure. The first jacket I ordered was a medium, which was quite large. I called customer service to exchange for a small which was shipped right away. Very polite customer service.

I couldn't be happier with this coat! Walking in freezing temps while feeling toasty warm is bliss. A good pair of waterproof and warm boots, hat and gloves...Winter is welcomed in this gear!

This had kept me warm when I visited Niagara Falls last Thanksgiving. Perfect Fit for me too. I got petite small and I'm 4'11" and 137lb.

I Love this coat! It fits well, though the arms could be an inch or two longer. Not sure why they aren't, my arms are not unusually long.
It's warm and great against chilly wind and rain. I especially like not having to wear layers under the coat.
Biggest drawback on this coat is the zipper. You would think that at this price a better, high quality zipper could have been used. Not a good place to go cheap.

Coat is mostly warm, except for arms which could use more insulation. The chocolate brown color is pretty. I tried the light blue color, but it didn't seem to be a good color for this coat. The waterproof outer fabric is nothing special, but it's not bad; it is stiff and noisy, though. The main reason I returned the coat was the odd fit and bulkiness. I am 5'5", 135 lb. and the small was the correct size overall, but with the coat zipped all the way up, the neck was too high and snug. While the detachable hood might be a good feature for some people, it does make the neck area a lot bulkier than an attached hood. (The coat looks better with the hood on anyway, so I wouldn't wear it without the hood attached; the faux fur on the coats I tried looked pretty, contrary to some other reviews.) With the bulky neck, the only way to feel comfortable in the coat was to leave the neck open. Also, even with the neck left slightly open, the length of the chest area seemed too long, so the coat puffed out in the upper chest. This coat will keep you warm (mostly), but be careful walking indoors in cramped spaces, as it will brush against things. Also, it's a hindrance when driving. Overall, I give it high marks for warmth, but low marks for wearability.

I love, love, love this coat. Seems obvious, but it is ideal for really cold weather. I would've laughed at the Polar Vortex if I had this coat sooner! I've already been able to approve the waterproofing as perfect, especially for that dreaded "wintry mix". I usually wear a medium, but this coat in a small gives me ample room, I'm 5'6" and the sleeve length is perfect. The hood is fab- the furry bit blocks the wind, and I don't need a single other accoutrement #hat or scarf# to stay super snug. Now, I'm surprised at the reviewers that were bested by the zipper... it's certainly not so terrible. The issue is this: coat is long, knee length or longer depending how tall you may be. So basic zipper-training tells us the heads of the two-way zipper need to be held together to be zipped up, when you pick up the hem of the coat to start zipping up, the heads come apart. Once you're aware of that, the zipper is just fine. Get this coat. Get it, get it, get it. You'll never be warmer for a better price.

This coat is great! I really didn't want to pay so much for a coat, but I really need one like this as the wild weather is going to stick around. I haven't found anything else of this quality at this price. It is very roomy. I'm about 5'6" and wear a 12-14. The large is very generous. I can add many layers under it even though it's warm all by itself. The zipper is not a regular zipper you would find on pants. It takes a little practice, but isn't an issue. The trim is not ratty, it simply needs fluffing. This coat is something I will keep for many years and so I see it as an investment. Going dog sledding and can't wait to wear it. A must for shoveling. Fast delivery, even in a blizzard! Way to go LLBean and UPS!

Rated 4 out of 5 by WesternNYStudent Great for a Western New York Winter
I was given this jacket as a gift, and love it. I live in an area with a lot of snow, ice, wind, and cold temperatures (many times below 0). It keeps me warm and the jacket looks great on too. It ran big in my opinion. I am 5'6" 130lbs and the size small jacket fits great. My only complaint like many others is the zipper. Its very hard to do up, and the left handed zipper took some getting used to. I love the pockets and length of this coat. I know I will use it for as many years as I can.

Rated 5 out of 5 by northernwiteacher Toasty warm on below zero day
Because I was desperate to have the warmest coat I could find, I bought this acadia down coat even though it was no longer available in my preferred colors of brown or black. I was worried that the light color I bought (off-white) would be miserable to keep clean. What a nice surprise I had that anything that gets on it washes off so easily.
It's been below zero with windchill day after day, and wherever the coat covers me is toasty warm. I also like the coat's sporty look.
