Rated 5 out of 5 by irisheyes789 Simply a great sweater
This is simply a great sweater. I was looking for a sweater with an "Aran hand-knit" look-the signature sweater of the Irish fishermen that is typically made from Irish wool. Authentic Aran hand-knit sweaters, though, tend to be very heavy, bulky and itchy-no matter what size or style. So when I came across this picture, the sweater did not look bulky on the model and actually looked a little fitted. Just what I was looking for. It definitely has a more slender fit to it and it is waist-length, so it doesn't fall far below the belt for a very cute, feminine look. I have a more slender build (5' 6", 125) and the thing fit like a glove. Not much room for anything underneath except a tanktop, which is perfect since the material is heavy enough for warmth, but not too bulky.
The material is not authentic Irish wool (made in China), but that's not entirely a bad thing because it's a very soft material that is not too heavy and itchy. I've worn several times without having to wash and it's really retained its shape. The color is not quite the warm vanilla color of a true Irish wool sweater, it's actually more of a muted off-white. Again, not a bad thing, it is what it is. Overall, just get it. You won't regret it. This is a current, cute alternative to your Irish granny's Aran hand-knit.

I just received my sweater, have tried it on and it fits perfectly, looks grand and feels so cozy. I wish it came in additional colors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by StayClassy Great fit, beautiful sweater
I'm 5' 6 140lbs Bra size:32DD/34D Measurements: 36-27-38 and I order a small in the cream color. The sweater is beautiful and warm. I usually wear it with a long sleeve shirt or the signature turtleneck underneath. I have gone out at night with the temps around 25-30 degrees with just a down vest on. It fits me like it does the model. It hits me at the hip bone and is slightly fitted.

Rated 3 out of 5 by ar212 Not as shown online
First, the pros: I love the color, and it looks like it would be very warm. The problem: the fit is completely not as shown online. It looks short and fitted. It is NOT fitted. It's not even short. They cinched it on the model. (Maybe I should have ordered 2 sizes smaller.) This is every big sweater you wore in the 80s. It's going back; I don't dress like that anymore. 3 stars for quality only, fit gets a 0.

I really liked this sweater although returned because I wasn't happy with the color. I have the washed blue on backorder and will keep it I do believe unless I do not like the color for some reason or if the fit is different. My only reservation about the sweater is that it will not wash and wear well?. It looks like no matter how careful one is, and I am extremely careful with my clothing, the threads would shred within a short time. I do however recommend because my concerns are only guesses at this point.

I ordered the fig version of this sweater. I was pleased when it arrived, as the color was just as I had hoped. It's a beautiful fall shade, but it could be used year-round because it's made of cotton. I am 5'5", 135, and I ordered a large because I am no longer twenty-something and did not want the fit as shown on the model. I'm glad I did because the large fits more like a classic fisherman would, i.e. mid-hip and not truly fitted--plenty of room for another layer. It is very nicely made with attention to detail, as I feel all L.L. Bean's merchandise is, and I hope it will give me many years of use. Thanks!

Rated 4 out of 5 by OutdoorsyKate Love Fisherman style sweaters
So, I LOVE fisherman style sweaters and when I found one made out of cotton and not wool I was ecstatic, well it just came it in so I have to provide a review. First it stands up to the usual L.L. Bean quality, looks like it will last many years. I listened to the reviews and ordered my usual size small. I'm 5' 7 and 135. The neck wasn't too tight and the sleeves are the perfect length. The color is more oatmeal than white as shown. My issue is, I wish the length of the sweater was 1 to 2 inches longer. The waist band ends at the top of pants, not a huge fan of this? Also it's fitted so I don't think I would be able to wear a collared shirt underneath, plus with the higher collar it might took odd. Overall I would order this sweater in your normal size, just expect the length to be shorter than what you usually wear.

Perfect sweater! When I read about the Signature fit being slimmer, I was concerned the sleeves might be too slim to fit comfortably over shirt sleeves, but it all fits together fine. I followed the sizing guidelines when ordering, and purchased an XL to accommodate a 36D chest. (When ordering knits, which are able to stretch through the chest, I often purchase a large, which normally fits my 5'5" frame better.) I wore it with color-coordinated long sleeve tee and flannel shirt, and it was perfect! I love this sweater, and would like to have a few more in shades of blue if they existed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Gertie1977 I love this sweater! It fits perfectly.
I do not agree with most of the other reviews. I'm 5' 4" with a small frame and the XS fits me very well. This sweater will be very stylish for this winter season.

I love this sweater. I am 5'1" and 100 lbs. The XS fits perfectly. It's hard for me to find a sweater that is not baggy. I like tailored clothes. This is a really cute sweater that fits snug and is not very long. Hits just at the top of my jeans. It's thick and warm and well made.
