Rated 2 out of 5 by TCTC could use a couple of tweaks
I found a couple of issues when trying out this messenger bag and unfortunately, they are annoying enough for me to return it.
The buckle closures on the flap are cumbersome enough that I can see myself not using it, but as I live in a crowded city, I want to close my bag securely. I wish this bag has velcro closure for the flap. I also wish there is a keeper for the shoulder strap "tail". Right now the excess strap just hangs and flaps around.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Edamommy We're on bag #2 - love it!
My daughter is in 4th grade. Last year, she was into the solids, and this year into prints. Last year we had this bag in a medium and this year we have the print large.
Both bags are great. Last year's bag is now mine, and this large print bag is roomy enough for the ridiculous 3" binder she has to tote to and from school.
My only small issue is that the strap on the print/large model is very twisty. THe other bag is not. So, it twists up and twists into the shoulder strap, which is a little annoying. I would also like a detachlable or more adjustable strap.
But, we have not run into the same quality issue that other writers have mentioned. No rips or other issues. The material on the print does seem 'lighter' than the solid, but both are very durable. Don't get monogramming if you get the print unless you specify a high-contrast thread - ours is barely visible.

Rated 4 out of 5 by CanadianBean great bag
My daughter has been using this since halfway through the last school year.
She loves it. It still looks great enough to use this year.
Only negative is that the strap is a little long for a child her size, she is petite.
I was going to shorten the strap by sewing it but she deals with it ok.
Pink swirls are a hit with her.

Rated 1 out of 5 by DisneyMama Ripped on the 6th day of school
I ordered this bag in medium for my daughter to use for elementary school and she is very careful with her belongings; her original plus backpack from kindergarten still looks like brand new. This messenger bag only held a folder, lunch bag, water bottle and a pencil bag- no heavy books. On the 6th day of school we noticed the lining ripped away from the black trim on the front of the bag, between the snaps. Of course the color is sold out and we have the matching lunchbox; now we are looking for a replacement messenger after the start of the school year and all the good colors are sold out. We own so many bags from LL Bean from backpacks to adventure duffles and this is the first time I have been disappointed in the quality.

I bought this bag for my daughter who just started middle school. I was disappointed when I received it.. I expected it to be a durable, rugged bag but I noticed right away that the quality seemed very poor and the material was very thin and flimsy. Other than not fitting her needs I would not order this backpack again because of the poor quality.

by Catsndogz Unbelievable quality & durability
I purchased my LL Bean Messenger bag almost 25 years ago. They weren't even called Messenger bags back then. Since that time I have dragged this bag around the world. I lived in the jungle in Costa Rica, moved across the ocean to Hawaii and traveled all over North America. My LL Bean bag carried my most valuable things. I recently took a trip to Hawaii to revisit... the airline had severe luggage restrictions so my LL Bean bag was my carry-on and was so stuffed, I was worried it might finally split. Never happened! This bag is not even scuffed and except for the cat hair on it, looks like I bought it yesterday. Nothing you can buy today compares with the amazing quality and durability of this bag. Whatever they want to charge for it is well worth it. I highly recomend LL Bean to you.

Love the bag! I over load this think & have no problems. I only gave it 4 instead of 5 stars because I though the material should be a little thicker.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Shopgirlshop Pink pattern is great feminine option
The pink spinning wheels pattern is a great option for women. I needed a sturdy messenger bag for work, and every other brand I've seen was just too masculine and looked odd on me. This is a nice and feminine without being too cutesy. And I love all the pockets in the front, very useful for holding all my odds and ends.

My middle schooler just received this bag 2 months ago for the start of the school year. The zipper lining has already ripped from the bag and she is very careful about taking care of her things. In fact her LLBean book bag lasted all five years of elementary school. LL Bean has been great on sending us a new one, but it won't be the same color choice and we need to find a bag now for her to use until the new one gets here. Very disappointed in the quality.

My daughter got this bag for her first year of college. She likes it overall but has only been at college for 6 weeks and has gone through 2 bags. The lining by the zipper has ripped twice and she is fairly careful with her stuff. LL Bean has been great about exchanging it and will take it back but we now have to find another bag. Great customer service.
