Rated 5 out of 5 by Shopgirlshop Pink pattern is great feminine option
The pink spinning wheels pattern is a great option for women. I needed a sturdy messenger bag for work, and every other brand I've seen was just too masculine and looked odd on me. This is a nice and feminine without being too cutesy. And I love all the pockets in the front, very useful for holding all my odds and ends.

My middle schooler just received this bag 2 months ago for the start of the school year. The zipper lining has already ripped from the bag and she is very careful about taking care of her things. In fact her LLBean book bag lasted all five years of elementary school. LL Bean has been great on sending us a new one, but it won't be the same color choice and we need to find a bag now for her to use until the new one gets here. Very disappointed in the quality.

Rated 1 out of 5 by shelia Doesn't hold up
My daughter got this bag for her first year of college. She likes it overall but has only been at college for 6 weeks and has gone through 2 bags. The lining by the zipper has ripped twice and she is fairly careful with her stuff. LL Bean has been great about exchanging it and will take it back but we now have to find another bag. Great customer service.

Rated 5 out of 5 by lorisan5 A perfect travel bag
To start, the bag empty weighs very little, and there is tons of room to hold everything you might need for a day sightseeing, umbrella, bottled water, a sweater and all the necessities, and oppossed to a tote bag, it was great to be hands free. I like it so well, I'll be using it as my work tote too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by AbJos Never buy anywhere else but LL Bean
My daughter has an LLbean backpack that is still going strong after 5 years. But because she likes to "change things up" she wanted another one. So I went with another company. Well after I returned it for the second time in 2 weeks, I went with the tried and true. Thanks for a quality product I am sure she will have until college. PS she is now in 4th grade

Rated 5 out of 5 by buttermilkroad My go to bag
I bought this bag because I like the strap cross body leaving my hands free. The fact that the main compartment is zippered with a front flap is the 2nd thing and the third thing is that cross body strap is comfortable and adjustable. There are also other pockets for the small items which comes in handy. A week of clothes fit nicely and I save a small fortune with carry on vs checked luggage. I am happy with it. Never regret buying anything from LL Bean. I hope the quality and customer service never change.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ReluctantFreqTraveler Finally the best bag ever . . .
Finally found the everyday/travel bag that works for me - I've got a wardrobe of tote bags/backpacks/roller bags/briefcases that just didn't do it. This bag is super light and has a padded pocket that's the perfect size for my Dell E6220 Traveler laptop. When I'm at home, I've got plenty of room for work files, lunch, sweater, etc., and when I'm traveling, this is the perfect carry-on because it fits my quart bag of toiletries/stuff I don't want to put in checked baggage/makeup bag/odds & ends pouch/reading material. I love the fact that the main compartment zips shut securely, so I don't have to worry about anything spilling out, and that the flap has an outside zip pocket that's perfect for my two glasses cases & wallet. There's an outside pocket with a velcro stap on the back side, and it's big enough to slip my computer/quart bag of stuff into right before I go through security so I don't have to fumble with unpacking/worry about losing anything in the process. The velcro pouch on one end is perfect for cell phone/lipstick/powder, and there are a couple of zip pockets under the flap for little stuff like ipod/meds/etc. - dedicated ID pocket fits my work badge perfectly, and since there's a place for everything, I end up putting things in the same place every day and finally don't have to paw through a pile of stuff at the bottom of a tote bag to find things. This is just a big deal for me, because I can't stand to be disorganized when I travel (even going back and forth from home/work) and I've been on the quest for the perfect bag for many years. So glad I've finally reached the end! I chose the navy paisley print, and it's a nice change from the black and grey bags I've purchased in the past - not too flashy, but interesting. If your computer fits, buy this!

Rated 4 out of 5 by simunomom Messenger Bag
We took LLB messenger bags in two sizes on recent trip to Europe. Love the sizes and the SIMPLICITY - no overly pre-ordained pockets to restrict how you want to pack items. Two design flaws took their toll, though, otherwise this would be a 5 star review: (1) strap needs to be firmer or thicker to keep from twisting so easily; had to be realigned almost every time we put them on; and (2) outside zipper compartment is easy to access BUT the space between the zipper and the top seam became a bucket every time the top flap was flipped over -- which is every time you want to access the interior!-- so items migrate and have to fished out or repositioned: why not redesign the flap to make the large pocket go from the zipper down to the buckles and with a second, smaller zippered compartment to keep things corralled a little better? D-rings would be a useful addition for tying on sweaters and the like: we just stuffed them under the flap which worked well enough. Overall, though, we liked them a lot!

Rated 5 out of 5 by JakeB Great iPad Bag
I needed a bag sized for my iPad that didn't look like a manpurse and wasn't literally twice the size of the iPad and this (the medium in black) is the perfect size.
The front pockets are tailor made for me to carry my eyeglass case plus the charger and cord and the side pockets are well sized for other items. You can put a water bottle into one but a dedicated water bottle holder would be an improvement, especially if it was a zip out one that's easily hidden. The pocket on the flap is big enough for a polo or t-shirt and I keep one in there at all times just in case and because the flap sits and looks better when it's filled.
The bag is surprisingly roomy due to it's unstructured design, which is how most messenger bags are made and I've packed for an overnight with this, with the above mentioned items, toothbrush etc, a shirt, undewear and jeans and it all fit comfortably. Snugly but comfortably.
The strap is good, it's comfortable and it doesn't bother my neck and shoulder which hurt just about every day. The adjustment buckle is a good design too, allowing quick and easy adjustment.
About the flap though, the straps come out from the seam where the bottom section joins to the front panel, not underneath as in the picture. The flap would sit better when closed if the straps were anchored from underneath or if the flap was smaller. Maybe mine is manufactured wrong, I can't say, but the next version should have a little redesign done in that area. Still, this little thing is pretty much perfect.
Another good thing about this is that it's in stock in my local stores, so I was able to try it on before buying it. Some of the other items I want from LL Bean aren't in local stores and I'm a little tired of the internet purchase two week "buy it-try it on-hate it-return it-wait for a credit" cycle. It makes me hesitant to buy anything I can't try on.
Buy this for what's it's designed for, knowing how it's structured and you'll be happy with it.

Rated 3 out of 5 Not a career bag
I bought the large bag about 4 months ago. It is very well structured; however, I find it clumsy and awkward to use. Recently I took it as a carry on bag with my laptop and it's ease of use was disappointing. It doesn't carry well unless the strap is over the head (like it advertises to be carried). It makes a good casual bag for the gym or an overnight bag, but I was looking for something a little sturdier that would stand up when put down. This bag flops over every which way. I need something to carry between work and home and this is just too casual and a little pricey.
