One of the sleeves is irregularly shaped at the shoulder seam.. I like the style, but it runs a bit larger than normal. I guess I don't like that I have to pay return shipping when the item is defective. I was thinking of getting a size smaller but i am hesitant...

Rated 5 out of 5 by timelessdresser almost perfect!
I just received this jacket yesterday. I ordered a black and a cobalt because I wasn't sure which I wanted. I kept the black jacket and returned the cobalt...pretty color but wouldn't be worn as often as the black. I'm 5'10" and a size 8 - I ordered the jacket in medium and it is perfect fit although the sleeves were not as long as I prefer. They looked like they had been hemmed and I simply removed the stitching and dropped the sleeve hems which was easy and gave me 2 extra inches in the length of sleeves...perfect.
I wore the jacket to dinner that night and it looked fantastic with skinny jeans, striped black and white sweater and black boots. It was the right warmth for the evening...until I left the restaurant and the temps had dropped a few degrees and the jacket was not warm enough. I could have worn a soft fleece jacket underneath but I would suggest to LL Bean to line the jacket in a thin, soft and supple fleece to make it more versatile. Or another idea - offer another jacket made with the same style/cut but in a soft supple fleece...keeping those fantastic pockets. They would sell like hotcakes!!!! It is really a great jacket otherwise, great style - perfect to dress up or down...

I've been wearing this jacket in Reg. small for two years and decided to get it another color. I ordered the same size but this year's jacket is a little different. It seems to have slightly longer sleeves, has stitching at the cuff which is not as nice as the plain cuff, and is a bit more fitted. I would exchange for a Petite M but there are none in my color choices.
Also note that the indigo is actually purple.
I'd love to see this in a winter white or light blue.

This is now my new favorite coat. It's warm and comfortable. Some people complained about it not being lined, but I prefer it that way because without lining the coat has give, but not too much, so it doesn't stretch out of shape. The seams are finished with binding--very nice. I was concerned that the patch pockets would be too big but they aren't. The fit is very flattering, and I have received so many compliments on this jacket. I bough the indigo color because it was on sale and have been pleasantly surprised by how well it coordinates with just about any color.

I am very impressed with the quality and styling of this jacket. The finishing details are great. I like the way the collar neckline can be worn more open or buttoned up. I wanted something a little more dressy and this will do nicely. It can be dressed up or down and handle the casualness of jeans as well dressier trousers. I have only worn it a few times but I can already tell that I will enjoy wearing it and its style will endure for many years.

This jacket will go well with jeans or dress pants or a skirt. I have worn it with a cable knit sweater. Boiled wool is durable and easy to wear and not scratchy. Very comfortable and good looking. All of the raw edges of the seams are beautifully finished with seam binding. Since it is slightly fitted it is very feminine. I chose the purple grape and the color looks better than it did on-line. Very versatile garment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by CharleyinKY Ordering another
I ordered the plum color in December and liked it so much that I decided to order another in indigo. It is extremely difficult to find good quality boiled wool jackets especially in petite sizes. I am extremely happy with the fit and received compliments when I first wore it. I am 5'3" and sleeve and body length can often be a problem. I ordered a Small petite. It is not as heavy as some boiled wool jackets that I have purchased, but it is not so heavy that I cannot wear it inside. I am happy it wasn't lined. I had tried on a boiled wool jacket from another manufacturer and found the sleeves to be too tight and the coat stiff and uncomfortable. Like several other customers, I found that the collar is a little tall, but I will always wear in folded down. Overall it is a very good product.

I was looking for a light weight but warm jacket. The LL Bean Boiled Wool jacket is PERFECT. I love the fit and feel of this jacket and the Heather Gray color compliments every outfit. I am thinking about ordering another in a different color. Well worth the price.

This is the second boiled wool jacket I've purchased. The first, purchased in October 2013, XL in Indigo, I wore with a heavy sweater underneath until the weather turned colder when a down coat was needed. I paid the regular price because boiled wool is extremely warm. The second one I have just purchased to wear indoors due to the extreme temperatures we have in the NE and the heating problems we have in my building. This one, in Darkest Green, I got in a Medium as I only need to wear a light-weight wool sweater underneath. (and it was a bargain at the sale price of $44.99). Both jackets fit very well. My stats are 156 lbs, 5'5" and I'm big boned with wide shoulders. I generally wear XL sizing and took a chance with the Medium as I think this jacket runs large. I recommend this jacket - for warmth boiled wool cannot be beat. It looks so much better than what is shown in the picture. I highly recommend it.

I want to start by saying--I never write reviews for LL Bean, even though my outerwear is almost all exclusively Bean. I really wanted to write a review for this product however.
I was able to get the jacket on sale, and it was a great deal! My expectations were low though. The pictures made me suspect it'd look frumpy. I'm 24 and prefer classic pieces, but ones that also are "fresh."
This jacket fits that bill perfectly. The cut of the jacket, and the boiled wool gives it a very polished look, but the plum color that I selected is fun. It's not a boring maroon hue, it's a deep purple that really pops. I can't speak for any other colors, but I'm willing to bet they are equally lovely.
The quality of the jacket is wonderful. The sizing is true to Bean. I'm always an XS, and found this jacket to fit perfectly in that size. As other reviewers mentioned though, wind does go right through it. But layers underneath helped to remedy that.
Overall I highly recommend this jacket. I think the pictures don't do it any justice. You have to see it in person to truly understand how beautiful it is. That's my one suggestion to LL Bean: get new photographs taken of this jacket!
