Rated 5 out of 5áby littleoreo so comfortable for wool
1st off I needed a replacement for an LL Bean boiled wool jacket from many years ago....that one was like the Austria style jacket..It was warmer but also more itchy......this one is way more comfortable, less itchy, longer, plus it has a stand up or down
collar which is great for the cold, windy days, and more of a feminine style....so I love it.
It is not as warm as the old boiled wool. But for me I will get to use it way more often...I bought the black....honestly, you can wear it with jeans, dress slacks, skirt...or anything in between. Fancy dressy scarf or a warm wool scarf depending on the weather and occasion!
I love it.....I got an XL and I am 5 ft. 5 inches and weigh 165 lbs. It fits perfect.....
So glad I invested in this coat...

I love this purchase. The coat is both comfortable, with room and stretch to move, while also having a structured look that many coats lack. It is a nice midweight warmth, great for cool midwestern winter days, but probably not ideal for gusty weather or long days outdoors in the winter. The color (cobalt) is BEAUTIFUL and vibrant. I've gotten many compliments on it.

As a child I was raised in wool. Wool undershirts, wool sweaters, wool skirts, wool pants from late fall until the snow was gone. This jacket is so versatile. You can rake leaves, walk the dog, go grocery shopping, go to work, walking, whatever.... It is warm too and light rain just beads off of it so if you get caught in the rain, you're fine. I bought it in black and I will buy it in grey too. This jacket is SO useful, practical, classy, stylish. It looks both traditional and hip. Wear it with sneakers, boots, shoes...whatever-it really does go with everything. I say BUY and you will have it for years. I know as this jacket gets older and even if it balls I will still love it.

I just rec'd this today. It's not as nice as the same jacket sold by llb a couple years ago. It's called by the same name, but the wool isn't as heavy as it had been. The one I rec'd today looks as if it may have been returned more than once, it came in wrinkled mess. Whatever has happened to LLB ?

Just received the jacket. I'm 5'4", 135 lbs. I usually take a medium and ordered it. Was in a rush and it said limited supply. Later in the day, after reading the reviews and since it was still available, I decided to order the small. I'm keeping the small. It does run full. The jacket looks so much better on than in the picture. Also, since I'm not as tall as the model, I like the length better on me than where it falls on the model. Got the olive green, love it. It's very stylish. Thanks to all who give reviews. They really help.

Rated 5 out of 5áby GardenBirdDog Perfect Boiled Wool Jacket
Usually, with a clothing item one enthusiastically rates 5 stars, one could still come up with one or two little improvement hints to pass along to customer service for next year's model.
This jacket is the rare item that I can't think of a thing I'd hope to see added or changed. I hope that Bean continues to offer it in new color choices each year, because it is imminently the kind of flattering, classic wardrobe workhorse that would be useful to own in multiple colors.
The boiled wool is perfect for cool, but not frigid, spring and fall weather. Some reviewers complained that it isn't warm enough, but I don't use it as a winter coat.
I'm in the camp that much prefers it unlined, with its neat taped seams. The boiled wool has a bit of natural stretch, enough to facilitate ease of movement, but perhaps because of the taped seams, including the shaping princess seams, it retains its shape beautifully. (Unlike many sweaters, which can lose shape after several wearings and require washing to reshape them).
The give in the boiled wool makes it easy to wear a sweater underneath in temps where the jacket over a blouse is not enough.
Love the large dual side-entry and flapped top-entry pockets!
The collar looks good open, and sharp buttoned up into a stand collar.
Amazing the way the cut of this jacket flatters very different figures.
I'm tall, used to be average leaning towards slender, but in recent years, getting thicker. The material is light and supple enough to tastefully enhance slender curves with no trace of tight or clingy, yet it also has "give" that accommodates accumulating pounds, and, somehow, still be maximally flattering.
My elderly MIL is barely five feet and apple shaped. She wears hers with print scarves at the neckline and a snazzy hat and looks fabulous.
By the way, the unlined boiled wool is the perfect weight for attaching and supporting a pin. We both often add a pin to the breast.
This jacket is so versatile. Dresses up jeans like a good looking blazer. Wonderful with dress pants and skirts.
LOVE THIS JACKET!

Rated 4 out of 5áby silia Love most of these jackets
I really love these boiled wool jackets (with a few conditions). I have this in dark brown (coffee?), wine and charcoal heather. I used to own it in darkest green, as well, but I stupidly returned that color because I liked the dark brown better. Now, I think I would have kept that color. The characteristics of boiled wool: warm, tough, and generally water resistant make these ideal for use in the Pacific Northwest. I also appreciate that these have more style than an average rain coat. I would not stand outside for long periods of time in the pouring rain in this coat, but for a typical day in and out of buildings and cars it is perfect. I tried a lined boiled wool coat from a competitor and did not like the effect the lining had on the coat. It restricted the wool's natural stretch and, because the wool had stretch but the lining did not, made it far too easy to tear the lining. While this jacket is also warm enough for a typical day in fall (or mild winter climates), it requires layering to get it warm enough for colder days.
In terms of color, I LOVE the dark brown (coffee) the most. The charcoal heather is curiously lighter in weight and color than what I expected. It feels more like a softer, thinner version of the other jackets. I wish they would bring back the dark brown version and the darkest green. Both terrific colors that are versatile and more interesting than black.

Rated 5 out of 5áby SinNJ I absolutely LOVE this jacket!!!!
I absolutely love this jacket! I purchased it in deep wine. It fits perfectly and is extremely comfortable The jacket is lightweight, yet keeps me warm. It's perfect for a fall day, or a not too cold winter day. Every time I've worn it, I've received complements. I love it so much that I purchased a second one in the same color!

I like this item. I ordered the red ochre but it is definitely much more ochre (orange) than red.

I have worn this several times as both outerwear and office wear. It is stylish and comfortable. I ordered the wine colour and love it with jeans or grey dress pants. I wore it recently on a sunny 5 degree celcius day and it was quite comfortable with a dress shirt and scarf. It also makes a nice topper for a cool office. I am 5'6" and 140 lbs, athletic not curvy. I bought the medium size and find it roomy, not boxy due to the princess seams. I can definitely wear a sweater under it. If you are more full figured, you will find it perfectly fitted. It is not lined but the seams are bound. I'd love to have one with a light silk lining. I think it would be divine!
