About 10 years ago, I bought four button-down fleece shirts similar to these from another company. They have been great over shirts which, since I live in Wisconsin's north woods, I wear year round. I'm not, nor will I ever be "fashion conscious." I dress for comfort - blue jeans, hiking boots, black tee shirts and fleece over shirts. Short of the rare occasions I must dress up, I just told you my entire wardrobe. The shirts I've had, have worn like iron, but after 10 years of use virtually seven days a week, they were just looking worn out. Though I could probably get another 10 years of wear out of them, it was time for an update. I was disappointed to discover that, short of spending over $70, I wasn't going to get another button-down fleece shirt from the same company, so I checked here to see if Bean carried something similar. Low and behold, they do, and they were on sale!
I scanned through the reviews. We all know what the good reviews say, so I fully expect most people will breeze past mine just as I did with others. I wanted to read the bad reviews. People said they were cut like a tent - way too big - can't wear tucked in. That was about it in the complaints department.
I spend a lot of time in the house on my computer, but I also love to fish, take walks in the woods, canoe, and pick berries. Again, I wear these as over shirts. I have to question the judgment of someone who would consider tucking in the bulk of a fleece shirt. No, they should not be worn tucked in. I'm 6' 2" and weigh 210lbs . I wear XL shirts. Depending on the cut, I may want a tall. In light of so many reviews that said they were cut really big I ordered a standard length large. The shirts fit perfectly. If I were to wear these over another long sleeved shirt #especially a chamois shirt# for added warmth, I would want the XL.
The quality is better than the ones I had. They are softer than velvet. Unlike my last shirts, these are lined in the cuffs, under the collar, and have a backing behind the button holes. I don't know why there's no backing behind the buttons. I suppose I could give a slight deduction for that, but I wasn't expecting any backing or lining, so they were already better than expected.
All in all, these are the perfect over shirts. Order a size smaller than normal and they'll likely fit beautifully. I cannot recommend these shirts more. I am ordering one for a friend as a Christmas gift.

I just love this shirt. I thought it would be more of a jacket, but it's more like an outerwear fleece, but it has a little style. well worth the price in my opinion!

My husband has 2 of these and he alternates them. They are so cozy and warm. Never mind his other choices of shirts. They run big and long. Had to return medium for smallest.

I wear my Bean's fleece shirt in the house most cold days, and my husband kept eyeing it. So I finally ordered one for him too. He loves the shirt, and when he is home, he is usually wearing it over his other clothing. It is so very soft, not heavy, but very warm. It is roomy enough to be worn over other shirts when you need an extra layer. Because it buttons up, it is much easier to put on as another layer than it is to pull a sweater or sweatshirt on over your head. When he wants to wear the shirt alone, it's a sharp looking shirt. Launders very well. Didn't shrink in the dryer. Basically, wearing this shirt is just like putting on a warm hug!

I chose the tartan plaid and it looks great. It has always been a favorite. The shirt fits great and is so thick and warm I am thinking of getting a second. I usually have no need for anything like this but it is so soft to the touch and this winter has been brutal. I put in on immediately and it is well made true to size. The perfect shirt for a cold winter day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by PSark Perfect for layering
Great shirt if you like to layer your cloths like I do. As others have mentioned this shirt is cut bigger than other Bean shirts. But if you're like me and you wear two or three undergarments you will appreciate the extra room. I'm 5'9', 230lb. I have a barrel chest so I appreciate the room under the arms. If you're one of those skinny fit types with low body fat i would recommend ordering a size down. As for the warmth, this shirt is great. Nice and soft too. It will pile after a washing but a quick brushing with an old razer removes them quickly and after a wash or two you won't get them again. My only regret is I didn't order two when they were on sale.

I have the solid black, fleece shirt. It is sized a bit more roomier than a regular shirt so it is perfect for layering over a long sleeve henley or long johns. The quality it very good and it is a very warm shirt. Perfect for around the house or layering to shovel snow. I will order at least one more shirt as this has become one of my all time favorite Bean products.

Excellent quality fleece shirt. Much heavier weight than I expected, which was a nice surprise. I would agree with other reviews to buy 1 size down. I typically wear a large but I am glad I listened to the previous reviews. I am 5'10" 180 lb athletic build and I purchased a medium which fit very nicely in the shoulders and arms however was longer in the body than I typically would wear. I am sure I will get many miles out of this fleece.

I read the reviews warning of the "generous" cut to this shirt and ordered a Tall Medium based on that. I am 6' tall and weigh 175 lbs. I usually wear a 16 x 36 shirt and usually order a Tall Large size. This shirt is huge. The sleeves fit fine but the body is cut loosely and the length is ridiculously long - top of collar to end of shirttail runs 36+ inches. I ended up liking the shirt so took it to a tailor to lop 4 inches off the length and can now wear it untucked without looking like I am in an old style nightshirt.
It is warm, lightweight, and very comfortable. Just cut very loose and long.

I received an LLBean fleece shirt for Christmas last year, and wear it all the time. It's a great extra layer to throw on over a shirt or mockneck when it's a little chilly in the house or outside. Mine is a blue and white plaid pattern.
I decided I wanted one in a single color, and chose black, since I have a lot of white and grey shirts.
Well, my 2014 fleece shirt arrived today, and I was blown away! It feels 30-50% thicker than my last year's model; and it is super soft and warm. I am not sure there was an intentional improvement, but I can certainly feel the improvement.
So much so that i am going to get one in an X-Small for my wife!
