Rated 5 out of 5 by WoodTracker Best Hiking/Sightseeing Waist Pack
Brought this Mountainsmith Swift TLS waist pack to go on a hike at Letchworth State Park and it got my wife and I through the whole day. Holds everything you can imagine for a hike... two water bottles, sun screen, bug spray, snacks, camera, sunglasses, etc. Did the same for our sightseeing in San Francisco and got us through the whole day. The size of this waist pack is just right without being too big and restrictive. The pivoting stash pocket is really useful when you want to stuff something real quick without having to open the main zipper/compartments. You can cinch the side straps too for extra security. I love the padded back but got rid of the shoulder strap. Overall, I am very please about my purchase of this waist pack... got us through miles and miles of hiking and sightseeing from coast to coast... and then some!

This pack seems to be sturdy and well-made. Zippers look like they will last a long time. I wanted a fanny pack that was neither too small nor too large for "city hiking" with my dog. It had to be large enough to house my 18 ounce LLB Hydroflask, which it does. It's a tight squeeze, but it goes in and out without too much of a struggle. There is still plenty of additional room in the main compartment, plus you have the separate, small zippered pouch in the rear of the pack. I don't ever intend to use the shoulder strap, so I removed that as well as the attachment buckles. The two side elastic mesh water bottle pouches are good for all kinds of things. I put my travel umbrella in one on potentially rainy days. The only drawback for me us the fact that the strap that goes around your waist area is narrow. Thus, if you are packing a lot of weight in the fanny pack, gravity will pull the pack down and the strap will cut into your stomach. This wouldn't be an issue in colder weather when you would have on more clothing and jackets, but now in the summer with just a tee and shorts, you really feel it dig into your gut. I just wear it lower, more down on the hips, and tighten up the belt good so its stays put.

Rated 5 out of 5 by crhshopper great ergonomics
This medium sized waist pack is very well designed to hold a lot of stuff in a relatively small amount of space. I use it for bird watching, and it comfortably holds a book, sunglasses, lip gloss, extra jacket AND water bottles...without seeming extra bulky. Highly recommended for one day or half day excursions.

I was looking for a pack that could hold more than a regular fanny pack...this fills the bill.
