Rated 5 out of 5 by RCS55 Great little flashlight
The compact size makes it great for traveling. It provides a very bright light.

Love this little light. Like to use to use it on early walks in the neighborhood when I need to be seen. Also plan to use it camping. Small enough to fit right in the pocket but powerful enough like the big guys.

Rated 4 out of 5 handy little light
Not a bad light. Very lightweight, looks cool and the bottle opener comes in handy. I saw one person comment that theirs had no bulb. Its a LED, there will be no bulb there so don't be alarmed. Had to read the directions how to install the batteries but other than that it works fine and its pretty bright for its size. Twist on/off head is nice so you don't have to worry about it being turned on in your bag.

I ordered 2 of the mini flashlights. They were just the right size for the car and my purse. The light is bright and easy to turn on and off.

Rated 4 out of 5 by OldRock Good, but...
Once you find out how to put this light together it works well. The piece that has the LED in it must be installed in only one direction in order for the light to work. I put mine together with the piece 180 degrees from the proper position and thought it was simply defective. The instructions do not indicate that the lamp section needs to be installed in a specific orientation. Outside of that it seems to be a great light to carry.
The beam is bright but quite small in use. Part of the reason I purchased this was because it was advertised to have quite a long battery life. I have not had it on long enough to check this but it seems reasonable.
The light itself comes on by twisting the light-end of the housing. This keeps it from being turned on when it is in a pouch in a pack, which is the way I carry this item. This is a plus as I have had trouble finding lights on in my pack over the years if they had buttons or switches. It is also quite small and lightweight which is good if you are carrying this item.
I like the light overall and would purchase another one if there was a need.

Rated 2 out of 5 by PilotDave727 So-So, works on alkaline cells only
This light appears to work well only with FRESH AAA alkaline batteries (provided). The instructions say it also works with rechargeable (NiMH) batteries, but it is extremely dim with NiMH cells (I tried 4 freshly charged pairs). This supports another reviewer's statement that this light has NO regulation and is directly driven by the TWO AAA cells, and the lower 1.2 volts of NiMH cells is just not enough to make it light brightly. This lack of regulation also indicates that its brightness will fall off VERY RAPIDLY as your "fresh" alkaline cells' voltage drops off quickly under the heavy load, so don't count on the advertised 45 lumens for very long!
Of course, if you want a (very) low-intensity light that will last a very long time on a set of NiMH AAAs, this might just be for you (be sure to buy the pre-charged variety, such as Sanyo Eneloop), but for me the lack of usability with NiMH cells is a deal-breaker.
When you install the batteries, if it does not light up you'll need to reverse the contacts on the LED module, since there is NO polarity keying, and LEDs only work with the correct polarity (+/-).
PrincetonTec has really disappointed me on this one.

The batteries were leaking acid, the flashlight had no bulb in it.
Returned for a full refund.

Rated 5 out of 5 by PCBuilder A LOT OF LIGHT IN A SMALL PACKAGE
Identical to the Princeton Tec model "1L", it's beam focus is wider (less of a spotlight) than my favorite Cree LED equipped Coleman light that I've used for a couple of years. Uses only 2 AAA cells as compared to some lights that use an odd number of batteries. I agree with the previous reviewer about the bottle opener. I could live without it, but I can't blame L.L. Bean for that since it's also on the Princeton Tec model. Overall, a great little light.

As a bright rugged single intensity LED -- you will be hard-pressed to find a better value. The 1L is a LED rework of the original princeton tec incandescent version of this light. The 1L is a simple direct drive vs regulated LED meaning it will slowly decrease in intensity for a 72 hr runtime at which its output is equivalent to a full moon -- useful measure for a camper/hiker and a good way to control output as you will not be left with a dead LED that has dropped out of regulation. This is a rugged rubberized light that has decent throw and spill, and an o-ring that shows as 100m waterproof. The rotating head switch is stiff enough that I cannot imagine this light accidentally turning on in a backback. The bottle opener works for the adventurer/traveler but could be filed-off to save a gram and make for a smoother profile for the backpacker.
