I bought this bike after spending an educational 20-25 minutes with an L.L.Bean expert at their Bike & Boat store in Freeport. I wanted to transition from running to biking for exercise, though I know I'll never enter a road race. Light weight and durable, it shifts smoothly and brakes quickly. I ride primarily on paved roads, though it did well on the carriage trails of Acadia this weekend, too.

Bought a spot tour bike & a trail bike; thrilled with both. Lots of use already. Cannot speak highly enough about the help received from the staff. Great bike!

Just finished assembling 2 new LL Bean Sport Tour bikes. Took me about 2 hours total for both. Bought one for my wife and myself. Assembly was very, very easy. Basically you unpack, put the front tire on, the handle bar, and the seat, and the pedals, and your done. Also had to put a reflector on. I saw a previous review that said the assembly was difficult, trust me, it wasn't at all. The directions provided were just OK. But there really wasnt much to assemble out of the box. I did call the 800 ph# to ask a question about the front brake cable, and they were very helpful. My wife and I just took the bike on our first maiden voyage and we both love how they ride. Gear shifting is smooth and precise. The seat is comfortable, and I am glad we got this specific model as the tires are not the real skinny ones so you can ride on both the road, paths and the dirt. The bikes are excellent quality. I have always liked Schwinn bikes so that was a plus. The only thing it didn't have was a kick stand, but I just bought one for $7.99 from our local bike shop. We are really looking forward to getting out on the many bike paths in Utah and enjoying the fall. We are not the Lance Armstrong bike types, more like the bike novice type that enjoy a nice ride ride along some paths. I am 51 years old and getting on a bike again and going for a ride makes you feel like a kid again. Looking forward to many fun bike rides with my wife. I highly recommend this sport tour model.

This is one terrible bike. The directions to put it together were vague and not for those who don't have experience putting bikes together. The handlebars came out of alignment with the front tire while lying in the back of my enclosed truck, the seat keeps moving around, despite my tightening it, and I'm no weakling. It wouldn't shift to the second gear(9-16). Finally, after having gotten it "fixed" at Beans, as I was downshifting to 1st gear, the rear derailleur fell right off while snapping off and breaking a reflector on the rear tire. The pedals are made for someone with a 7 year old foot. The gears, when they work, are not smooth. No, this is one terrible bike. It's made by Schwinn. The only good thing about this dog is the Bean's guarantee!

This bicycle was a birthday gift for my husband, who is an avid day cyclist. I was originally going to buy him the Runaround Cruiser, but decided on the Sport Tour b/c I felt it had more features (ie. 27 gears) for the experienced cyclist. My husband loves it -- says it is comfortable and handles well, and he is enjoying his "smooth-shifting Shimanos" on his 30-mile weekend jaunts to our local beaches and parks. On the downside, the bicycle is pricey, but if you can buy it on a Bean's sale, as I did, it's well worth the additional cost. I was concerned about putting the bike together, but my husband and I had no problems. The directions were clear and it took us about two hours to do. Those who are more mechanically-oriented will probably be able to do it in far less time!
