Rated 5 out of 5 by HPH48 Classic design, hidden details make it a winner!
I purchased this dress because it is a blank slate with great potential. The cut and quality make it a beautiful stand-alone piece, yet the simplicity leaves it incredibly versatile.
I'm slim, but have a large bust and broad shoulders. This dress fits me well, but tailoring might be necessary for narrow-shouldered customers. The armholes are a good size-- I had plenty of mobility, yet felt completely covered.
My favorite details are the hidden pockets and the snaps designed to hold your bra straps in place. I wore this dress to a wedding and could hide my phone in my pocket and dance without looking disheveled or stopping to hoist up my bra.
I did have to iron this dress after traveling with it, but the wrinkles were minimal. A less persnickety person wouldn't have bothered. The pleats have stayed creased well, and I haven't had to iron the belt.
This was my first L. L. Bean Signature purchase, and I am looking forward to exploring the rest of the line!

Rated 4 out of 5 by CanadaMomof4 Gaping in the back...otherwise beautiful!
Maybe it is my square shoulders (although I have other dresses that don't have this problem), but the back of this dress, as stunning as it is, gaped right at the zipper. I nearly sent it back, regretfully?it couldn't be worn like that?but my husband really like the dress and suggested I have it altered, which I have done. The twenty dollar alteration has added to the overall price of the dress... It is a beautiful dress, and I am looking forward to wearing it, but I do feel that the fit is somehow not quite right, as I have very seldom had this problem, in dresses that cost me less. I am exactly a size 6 according to the size chart - 35, 27-1/2, 37-1/2, (120-ish lbs) but skeptical, I ordered the 4 and the 6, and the 4 fit perfectly - it's not remotely tight. So, I disagree on the need to size up.

This dress fits so beautifully and is so well-made! I am in my mid-20s and 5'8" with a professional job, so I am always on the look out for things that look professional but are comfortable.
I typically wear between 8-12 at stores (depending on vanity sizing, most likely). I wear an 8 in regular LLBean outfits, but I wore a 10 Regular in this dress (like most of LLBean signature it runs smaller than typical LLBean). It falls perfectly at about mid-knee on me and the waist hits at the bottom of my ribcage. I mention this because I often need a "tall" size (even though my height is borderline "tall") at other stores (and I often wish LLBean had a tall size for women as shirts can be a little short on me). It might be a little high for the waist, but I think it works well anyway (doesn't look too short).
This dress is perfectly designed for the pleats to fall in a way that doesn't make your hips look bigger (a concern of mine with pleats). It really gives a perfect hourglass shape. The polka dots are adorable too- just the right size. I usually wear it with a pearl necklace and some brown flats- so cute!
It also has some "bonuses" for a dress- pockets!! I can carry my keys in them easily without looking like its bulging. They are a little forward and not on the total side, so it makes it easier to carry things in them unnoticeably. They also have the strings/snaps for bra straps at the top to keep your bra straps from showing. It is also perfectly lined with a solid piece of fabric, so you don't have to worry about a slip. These are really just the extra touches and thoughts that make this dress a must-have and worth the price!

Lovely, classy dress. I am generally a sized 12 across all brands. I am 5'6" tall. I ordered a 14 Regular, and the fit is perfect. It drapes slightly outward to just below my knees. The neckline is high, which is rather classy. The armholes are a tad large. I could see my bra a bit when looking for it. I found it very comfortable, I could have worn it all day. I had ladies fawning over this dress all day! Most of them were classy elderly ladies who had "similar dresses when they were young" ie 1950s and 1960s. I am not elderly, nor did it make me look old, it's just a dress cut from a different era, and I just reveled in it. If they had another one in my size I would happily spend my money on it! So, with that said, LLBean please make more!!! :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by Betho GREAT DRESS!
This dress is a classic. It is very feminine, and accentuates what you've "got" and is kind to what you have a bit too much of :)
I have gotten many compliments each time I wear it. I would love to see this with sleeves for the fall ... take note, LL Bean!

I love the print and material of this dress. It's beautiful! Now saying that, there is nothing else good to say about this dress. The fit is way off. It's uncomfortable to wear and just doesn't fit right. I bought a size up considering it was made out of cotton and I was concerned about shrinkage. It's a good thing I did as it was still tight across the bust and waste area. Totally surprised as this was a signature item. Definitely not made to size! Very disappointed to spend this on a dress and have it not fit well at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by pcsqueen Another Fantastic Version
Here's what I wrote in my review of the solid poplin dress:
"I was fortunate to be able to order the bright navy version of dress on sale, but, having tried it, would now consider paying full price for another version of it."
Well I did when I saw those wonderful polka dots. And I don't regret it!
My bust/waist/hip measurements are evenly proportioned, but I have broad shoulders and am short-waisted. For me, 50's style, "Lucy Ricardo" dresses are my best bet because they come with a very defined waist - and this one fits the bill perfectly.
Like its solid-colored sibling, it's a gorgeous dress and one that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. (I recently wore it with a white cardigan, white belt, and white sandals to a colleague's retirement dinner.) And, best of all, it's washable - but take care to treat it gently.
I would love to see the basic style adapted into a shirtwaist with a stand-up collar and a longer skirt - classic 1950's but timeless.
