I purchased the 6'10" outfit in store 3 years ago. They did not have the reel in stock and so they gave me the double L reel at no extra cost without even questioning. You cannot beat this kind of customer service! And i am just a regular Joe!
Provided you understand the limitations of this rod you will enjoy it as i do. This rod is meant for short casts. LL bean advertises 40ft and i found this to be very accurate. I have used this rod to fish bass and trout in both lakes and small streams. Its smaller size and 4 section design mean you will not get as accurate of casts but will be able to cast in tighter spaces. I have been able to sneak under branches and catch fish that my more experienced friends with 9' rods could miss.
My one complaint so far is the price. Pricing it out there are other products that come in cheaper for the same parts. i cannot however comment on their quality. The LL Bean outfit has a great quality and for that i recommend it.

After months of debating with myself I finally purchased the 6'10" outfit. . .WOW! I have been fly fishing for close to 35 years and own more fly rods than I would admit but this little rod is one of the best. I purchased for fishing the small trout streams of Maine but find myself using it whenever possible. . .rivers, streams, ponds. . .very light weight, balanced absolutely perfect, action is supreme and it casts superbly. I was amazed at how much line I can cast with this little rod. If you are on the fence about purchasing I highly recommend it!

This combo has great balance in the hand. It has great looks and finish. It is perfect for the small mountains streams of the San Bernardino mountains where It live. It reminds me of the Bamboo rods I learned on over 50 years ago only much lighter and more durable.
Great Value Too!

I bought and used this combo for a trip to Smoky Mt. NP.
I substituted the 3x leader for a 5x leader and added a flourocarbon 6x tippet.
It was absolutely perfect for the Smokies -- it cast easily in tight brush and roll casts unrolled perfectly.
The rod action with the smallish 7" brook and rainbow trout was very good -- I could feel every twitch.
I have since used it at home (Massachusetts) and enjoy it just as much.
I'm no expert fly fisherman so for the price this is perfect for my needs.
The drag does not adjust as I would like but I like the old style click and pawl.

Took this little rod/reel combo out to a small mountain stream in NC. Loved how smooth this thing was and the fight that came with having a 18' trout on the end of my line. My friend was envious and wished he had setup like this of his own. Highly recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by SCdave GREAT combo!
I purchased the 6'6" 3wt combo earlier this year and didn't get many chances to use it until recently. Wow! I really, REALLY like it. The rod and reel are a perfect match for each other. It is light weight and casts beautifully. For the small overgrown streams in the Blue Ridge Mtns that I fish, it is the perfect tool. Well made, comes with everything you need #rod, reel, sock, tube, backing, fly line & a leader#. Just tie on a fly and start fishing. I will probably have to get another for my wife because she loves it too and I'm not willing to share.

Rated 5 out of 5 by StochasticShopper Great Little Rod!
I researched this rod thoroughly online and the rod is highly rated. Sure enough, the 4-wt rod is a pleasure to cast on the small river near to where I live. It packs down small and is well balanced. The tube length matches the rod length when it is broken down into 4 pieces. The outfit comes with a high quality SA Mastery Trout line. I'm certainly happy with this purchase.

First of all, this rod packs down incredibly small. Despite it being a small rod, you can land some big fish. I have the 6'10" 4wt and I have landed multiple fish above 2 pounds. Such a short rod does cut down on your casting distance, but not nearly as much as I was expecting. It's great fun because you need to play the fish for quite some time to ensure the safety of your gear (and what fisherman doesn't like a long fight?). Anyway, the rod is strong, beautiful, and incredibly fun to use.

Recently purchased this outfit and have used it a handful of times. I did need to remove some of the backing as the spool was full didn't have room enough for a leader other than that, which wasn't nearly worth mentioning, I really love my new 4wt. It handles well, feels good in the grip and so easy to place the fly where you want it. It is great for what it was designed for, small streams and rivers. Got my first brookie of the season on it. If you are looking for an outfit for New England's small waters, this is worth the money.
