This review is in reference to LL Bean 1,000 (light) spinning reel which I purchase this past month. The reek does well, casting, and retrieving is smooth. The problem I encountered was when I attempted to adjust the drag. The drag adjustment in from of the spool will turn but the spool is locked in place and the spool will not release line. Consequently, any large fish on a 6 pound test main line will break the line because the spool is locked solid.
I contacted LL Bean, via the chat line. The person (expert) I corresponded with thinks the problem is with the spool so supposedly a replacement spool is being sent to me at this time. Upon receipt of the replacement spool, I will either mail back the defective spool or the entire reel. Quality control is suspect. Thank you for allowing me to give you feedback.

Totally disappointed. I had to cut line 3 times because of it not being
put on reel tight enough. Finally gave up - took all line off and put on
new line by hand. I was on a private island in Belize - no shops.
Thank goodness, a friend had extra line he could give me!

These are superb reels. My first was a model 500 followed by two additional 500 and two 1000. I fish Maine, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey; quite often now that I am retired. They perform flawlessly in all kinds of conditions.
Perhaps the most important observation I can share is the service when I lost a small part from the spool. I had called to purchase the part and the LL Bean service representative sent me a total new spool, gratis. Another reason why LL Bean is and remains #1.

Been fishing for over 5 decades. Got this reel from my wife for Father's Day a year ago. First of all the line was wound in backwards!!! If you are a fisherman you'll know what this does. After many 'Birds nest', I put in new line wound correctly. Many 'birds nest' later I conclude that the reel mechanism winds line more to the top of the spool than evenly. Therefore, in a cast, when the line is moving out of the reel it pulls on the excess line at the top of the spool....Voila! Birdsnest...all over again. So the spooling mechanism in this reel is pure junk...
Do not buy this reel.

Purchased 4 of these as part of a set. Kids have been out fishing twice off a dock. One broke within 5 minutes. The second one broke during the second outing. The button gets stuck and the reel becomes useless.

This is a sweet light spin reel. Mine came with a metal and a plastic spare spool. The drag on the plastic spool failed during normal use but the metal spool has functioned fine. I believe the plastic spool has been discontinued. It would be helpful if LL Bean offered spare metal spools. Jim
