This reel is a replacement that LL Bean sent me for my original Rod N Reel that were damaged beyond repair in a fishing trip accident. I have been using this Rod and Reel combo 2-3 times per week for 2 months fishing for largemouth bass. I love the equipment. The action of the gears and bearings are so smooth and the drag is powerful. I recommend this rig to anyone from beginner to expert angler. You can't go wrong!

This reel worked flawlessly for striped bass and giant trevally. I replaced the line with 20 lb. Ande.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Fishonfool Looks good. Heavier than I thought.
I have not tried this reel yet, but I will say that it has a solid feel to it, but is a little bit heavier and larger than I was expecting. This should be really good for heavier fish, but I was looking for something a little lighter. I have not decided whether to return it or not.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Rheath51 Not for saltwater
Last year I bought 2 saltwater reels- a Penn Slammer and an LL Bean 6500. I fished with both in the same conditions (surf mostly), treated both the same, soaked overnight in fresh water) and the Slammer is still going strong; the LL Bean, unfortunately, froze up within a week. There is a reason why Penns are expensive and LL Beans are not. I am very disappointed to see that Bean is still marketing the reel as "surf, saltwater"- not up to the usual Bean standards.

by Mukilteo Excellent Quality
The price with line included was so low I thought this reel would be a piece of junk-- if it wasn't any good I wouldn't be out much. It's been great! Easy to cast, drag is good, no problems at all. If only it came with fish. (I bought a second).
