My wife and I are performers working festivals, haunted houses in Oct, etc. I told her I wanted a Thermos for my birthday and she got me this L.L. Bean 50 ounce thing. I was okay with it. It held more than the Thermos model I wanted so that was a plus.
Then came the road test. My wife made hot tea before noon one day because we had a gig in the afternoon and were working at the haunt later that evening. There was no time to go home in between.
Around 10pm it started getting cold so we cracked open the LL Bean stainless steel vacuum bottle (aka thermos in the generic sense) and I was surprised to see steam rising from the inside. I was even more surprised that the tea was still hot. Hot to the point that you had to sip it, not just swallow it down.
That's 10 hours later. The next night she made tea just before 4 and we opened it around 9pm. It was hot to the point where it was too hot to sip.
This thing is GREAT. I've been telling everyone at work and all my friends about it. It's big and it works. You can't go wrong. Just buy it.

Great handle design. Just right for sipping. Easy to manage. Good for work or woods. The soup stayed hot several hours and the lemon-aid stayed cold until the second half of the football game.

Exactly what I needed - great exchange!! Much better design than the push button top. Keeps my coffee hot all day - even the last cup for the ride home, 11 hours later.

Replaced an Alladdin Thermos that got the plastic stopper busted. I like this one better. It holds almost a full pot of coffee. And has an easy pour lid. I would buy another. A good product. But then again it is from LL Bean.

I was excited to find this thermos on the LLBean website. It cost less than all the "outdoor"stores I checked.

I really wish I was writing a positive review, because I generally really like LL Bean products. But alas, no. I received this as a holiday gift in December 2012 from my wife. Threw it out after a year of fairly regular use. At first it kept the coffee warm only if you preheated the bottle and really screwed down the stopper. Otherwise it would leak through the stopper. But after about six months of use, the stopper became warped and too difficult to open and close. By the time I finally got fed up and threw it away, I had to open and close the bottle with a pair of pliers.
Was it my error? Did I crank too hard on the thing and ultimately wreck its ability to seal? Nope. It just needed to be firmly shut from day one. Perhaps it was a defective product from the get-go, but I don't believe so. The screws and o-ring on the stopper did not appear to have defects.

by TeaDrinker Works great, uncomfortable to carry
Why are designers and engineers allowed to ?fix? or change designs that do not need to be changed?
I have both the previous vacuum bottle with the push button top and its replacement 50 ounce bottle. Both keep liquids hot for hours.
The new bottle's handle has been changed from the old bottle. It has ribs at the top of the grip which dig into the fingers and actually hurts, especially when it is full.
See the attached picture. This is serious enough for me to keep thinking about returning the new bottle and put up with the leaking old bottle. This bottle is with me daily so it is a constant source of irritation every time I pick it up.
I highly recommend this vacuum bottle for its ability to keep hot tea hot for hours. In that regards it cannot be beat.
If you have arthritic or tender hands, it will be hard on them.

I bought this Vacuum Bottle to take Soups and Stews into the field for a Guided Hunt. Not only did the bottle keep the soups hot throughout the day; it was larger enough to feed both my sport and myself. Easy to clean and maintain after the trip. Rigid and well made. I would recommend to an Guide or person looking to use in the field.

Rated 4 out of 5 Good thermos, poor cup/handle
I had a Stanley beverage thermos that I used for many years and it finally failed. I had another Stanley soup thermos that failed years ago and just never used. I was looking to buy a replacement for the beverage thermos when I ran across the LL Bean 50 oz. model. It was bigger and because of the dual mouth feature, it really replaces both the Stanley models. Even better, the design seems to more efficiently conserve heat. My only criticisms are the cup and handle design. The inner cup is useless to me. The outer cup's insulation is too weak so holding the cup by the bowl is impossible. To make this worse, the handle is undersized so using this to hold the cup is uncomfortable. It is also too small. This design could be improved with a 10 oz. over-cup for soup and an 8 oz. inner cup for beverages. Neither would require a handle if adequately insulated. The handle is nicely designed for pouring but uncomfortable for hand-carry. The carry strap, however, can be shortened for hand carry if you make some keepers for the excess strap material. Just roll up the excess inside the strap loops and use the keeper to hold it in place. I made mine out of rubber bands for now but plan to make some out of webbing I have lying around or maybe I'll get creative and use woven leather lacing.
