My husband just received the shorts in blue plaid, and loves the fabric and pattern. He takes a 35" waist, and these are a little large in the waist. He always wears a belt with shorts, so he plans to keep them. LLBean jeans in a 35" waist are never too big.

I must (respectfully) disagree with everyone who says that the sizing is off on these shorts. Based on the reviews, I ordered my husband a pair in size 30. He ALWAYS wears a 32, but everyone is freaking out so much about how oversized they are, I thought even the 30's might be too big.
. . . cut to the chase. The 30's were too small. Gutted. Quickly ordered a pair in 32 & they arrived immediately, and they're PERFECT. Fit him like a dream. He is a slim guy (swimmer's build) & these are terribly flattering on him - not baggy.
So there you have it. They run true to size. That's my story & I'm sticking with it!
For what it's worth, they have a fabulous retro look to them. I swear my dad had these same shorts in the early '60's. Probably did - and he probably bought them at LLBean!

Rated 3 out of 5 by jhoke76 Great shorts, but REALLY BIG
I love these shorts, but I ordered them for my husband and he typically wears a 36. He can pull them on and off without even unbuttoning them. We need these for our family beach photo this year and there is no 34 available. Great shorts, great quality, perfect seersucker....TIP: Order small or plan to put 2 people in them.

Other than finding these shorts a size too small for me (I exchanged a pair of 34's for 35's), I really like these shorts. The fabric is lightweight, but durable, the colors do not fade with repeated washing, and they look great.

Agree with other reviewers. Ordered a 35 inch waist. It says 35 on the tag but they are huge. Guessing they are around 38-39 so will need to return

Just received them in the mail today. Great quality that I've come to expect from LL Bean. I like to read all the reviews on products before I purchase and in this case I'm glad I did. A few reviewers wrote these shorts waist size runs large, they recommended ordering a size smaller than what you normally wear. Im between 35-36 so I ordered a 34 and I have room to spare they are loose at 34. But they are great quality and great looking shorts.

I'm very happy with these. They're nice and lightweight without feeling flimsy. They could be a touch shorter, but overall very good. Comfortable without looking shabby.

Rated 4 out of 5 by alkinet Careful with the seams
Im a bigger guy, so it could be me. First, love the feel of the shorts. Super soft, worn in feel. I can already tell that the seams along the back going down between legs are starting to fray after only 2 wears. Worried that they will split at a most inopportune time. Going to try and reinforce with the wifes sewing machine as I love the look and feel.

Rated 3 out of 5 by KBeaner size way off
I know LL Bean describes these shorts as sitting below the waist, but the 32 waist that I ordered was literally so oversized that I could scrunch up 3 inches of fabric at the waist to get these shorts to fit like a normal pair of loose shorts or jeans.
Come on, LLB. get the sizing a little more consistent and right, will ya?

I bought a pair of these and then another and then another. Nice light weight fabric that is perfect for the Arizona heat. They seem very durable, taking a lot of abuse from my active lifestyle. The waist does seem to run large on these. Normally I take a 32" waist. I had to exchange my first 32" for a 30" which fit perfectly.
