Really pleased with the price and performance- caught fish on each rig the first time out- I use to backpack to remote ponds in Maine and it fits well in my pack and each casts well,

While I have not tried out the fly rod yet, the spinning gear has brought in about 18 bass, biggest being 13-14 inches. I think the rod could easily stand up to a 2 - 3 pound bass without much concern, anything bigger would test my skills. I have always primarily used light to ultralight gear for bass fishing and this rod is as good or better than my one piece rods. The reel is good as well, equivalent to the other gear I use regularly. The case is light and sturdy, making it really portable. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a good travel set. The line on the reel did take about 15 minutes to lose its memory effectively, and in the process I got a knot that cost me about 20 feet of line, but it still casts quite well, so no complaints. Definitely not enough of an issue that I will go out and buy new line for it. Though I expect a good low memory line would get me bit more casting distance.

Rated 4 out of 5 by RGinVT Pretty cool
The case could use a stronger top/cover as that's the only part I'm worried about. The rest of the case and rods are very nice. The case will fit into an HD saddle bag. The size and weight make it very convenient to carry in a pack or by hand to fishing holes. Already got a good half dozen trout with this kit and looking forward to many more.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Geoshoe Ready to fish
This is a very compact Spin/Fly Combo. I can throw this in the back and be ready for all kinds of fishing conditions, as long as it is light. I was rather surprised at the lightness of this outfit. When I buy LL Bean I expect heavy duty equipment, but this is surprisingly light weight. Should be loads of fun to chase freshwater bass.

Rated 3 out of 5 by TwoEars Good combo deal...
Good deal for the price. I have used both with the fly rod as well as the spimnning rod. The rods are quite good for a combo kit. The reels on the other hand are quite basic. The fly reel has sharp edges which in line retrieval has the real/potential problem of making small cuts in the line. Overall, they both meet the needs of an angler who keeps their rod/s in their car for the chance opportunity to fish a stream they come across. The case is quite convenient....

Rated 3 out of 5 by LomboFromNL Looks like a quality Product
Great quality as is usually the case with L.L.Bean . Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to actually use it yet do to weather conditions in the northeast. My only problem is that two weeks after I purchased this item, it was on sale at 20% less than what I paid for it. Wish I had known.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Qatarexpatfishing Spin-Fly Combo
This is a terrific outfit for those who travel a lot or just want to have a rod / fly rod handy in a vehicle. I rated this 4 stars instead of 5 stars only because the spin cast reel is a bit smaller than expected, however having said this, the quality and performance of the reel is very good. The fly rod is very responsive for a 6-piece. The fly reel is basic, but again, the performance and the quality is good for the price. This will certainly allow you to fish during your travels. Great case, well padded, so don't hesitate to throw it in your suit case and fly off and enjoy fishing where ever you travel...one of the better travel dual kits out there. Thanks L. L. Bean.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Drizzle88 Great for impromptu fishing and beginners
This is a great kit for the fisherman or woman who may find themselves with the sudden desire to drop a line in transit. Both rods disassemble nicely and store well in the container. They also have pretty good action and are of excellent quality as per most L.L.Bean items.
I have used the spin rod to fish for sunfish, bass, perch, pike, and various other lake fish in north-central Minnesota. I am still learning to wield the fly rod in an effective manner, but so far have caught one smallmouth bass--great fun! I am moving to Idaho soon and I am very excited to get in some trout and possibly salmon fishing while I am there.
I would highly recommend this kit to anyone who does not have a lot of room to store a rod and reel in their vehicle and anyone who may be interested in getting into fishing but may not have an extensive knowledge of the sport.
The only "complaints" I have are very minimal. The travel container is of good quality, but I wish the vinyl cover would have been replaced with a canvas one. I can foresee the day when the cover breaks well before it should. The addition of an introductory "fishing manual" would make this a perfect beginner's kit, complete with a few flies and some tackle.
The biggest complaint I have is with the delivery service provider used by L.L.Bean. It took 3 weeks for my order to arrive, when it should have only taken 4-7 business days. I can only say I preferred it when a certain public entity was the primary delivery service. Needless to say, such a delay would not have happened.
