This briefcase meets my needs perfectly. It stores my laptop, iPad, phone and papers safely and securely within its padded chambers. I also have room for my small folding umbrella inside as well. It also holds myriad other items in the outer pockets like sunglasses, cords for the devices, small digital camera, gum, etc. The brown leather surface is pebbly and very sturdy, with a thick hide being used. The handles are strong and the sturdy zippers work well and are effortless to pull. The magnets holding the two outer pockets have come open occasionally, but since there are zippers under the flaps, that has not been an issue for me. It is a heavy briefcase when fully loaded with all my stuff, but the padded shoulder strap is up for the task. I'm very pleased with my purchase and should have bought it a while ago rather than waiting. I would love a ring to attach keys to inside, but that would be my only addition.

Purchased this for my husband as a gift to replace a 15 year old canvas briefcase from LL Bean. He loved it! It's classy (beautiful color and leather) and functional (many useful compartments for laptop and other items). Never complained about the weight of it like other reviewers. Will update on durability over a time.

Love, love, love this briefcase. I've been looking for a LONG time for an appropriate briefcase to hold my 15 inch laptop, my iPad, and my other work stuff. I originally received a canvas briefcase and wasnt satisfied with the look - so I purchased this.
There is plenty of room to house all of the above and more. If you have a lot of papers (i.e. a 2 inch binder) then you might find the bag crowded if you use a laptop and tablet. The magnets on the flaps are weaker than normal but do perform their function as long as you dont stuff the pockets too full. It's premium grade leather and the shoulder strap hooks on the end are very sturdy - a nice feature that has been an issue for me on my previous briefcases.
I've had this briefcase for 1 month and it still looks good. I love the look. Classy and professional. PRice was nice too - especially for what you get. the handles allow you to grasp the bag and not use the shoulder straps. It can get on the heavier side if you load the briefcase up, but one can expect that with a sturdy product such as this.

If you are seeking the satisfaction of owning and handling real "nude" (as opposed to commercially-finished) leather, you will love this briefcase.
In addition, it is very well made.Plenty of stitching and riveting to hold it together for a long time.
My only criticism is that it would benefit from a more modern ergonomic shoulder strap. The traditional looking, relatively small sliding pad does not spread the weight out enough for my liking. Also, because this bag is relatively heavy, the pad may tend to slip off of round-shouldered folks like myself.
I am using a 3rd party strap w/pad (which unfortunately does not match, as it only comes in black), to carry this case.
This 3rd party strap has a contoured pad which tends to stay on the shoulder better.. This design is found on many camera bags.
The pad area itself is a stretchy neoprene-like material, which acts like a shock-absorber, reducing the "apparent" weight.
The underside of the pad is a stretchy but very grippy rubberized material. It adjusts with sliders at both ends to keep the pad centered. If you are planning on walking a distance with this case, you will want to research such a strap. Nevertheless, I love the case.

Really like this bag. I realized I was carrying too many things I did not need in my previous bag. I only carry the things I really need in my new bag: Laptop, files, pens, etc. Beautifully designed. The leather has a distinct character. I am hoping this bag will last me many years, it looks like it will.

This is a great briefcase if a little pricey. There is only one area I would change to make it even better: the handle. First, the straps leading to the handle are just a wee bit longer than they need to be. The current handle length lets the briefcase swing a bit more than it needs to, which results in a feeling that you're not really controlling the bag--it has a little more 'swing' to it than I like when I'm walking. The second thing about the handle is that the 'wrap-around' that holds the handle straps from each side of the briefcase together is itself closed by snaps--one on each side of the wrap. Most overnight bags and small duffle bags that have a similar arrangement have a handle wrap-around that is secured by velcro. While the snaps work OK, they are less convenient than velcro for closing (I have to look at what I'm doing to get the snaps closed) and definitely less convenient for opening; principally because the leather is so soft, it feels like I might pull the snaps out of the leather each time I open the snaps. Neither design feature is a 'deal breaker,' but I believe the bag would be just a tad bit better if these features were as I've described. Even with these two 'short-comings, the bag is still GREAT and I would definitely buy it again!

Far exceeded expectations in terms of quality and appearance. Commuters on my train as well as co-workers have asked where I got it. They were in awe when they found out how much I paid for it. This is a handsomely-crafted leather briefcase that can be used in business or casual settings. It is made of good quality cowhide. If you are expecting highly-fragranced soft leather, that you might associate with expensive leather gloves, then this briefcase isn't what you're looking for. As other reviewers who purchased it have stated, while this bag isn't cheap, price-wise, it also isn't cheap in terms of quality. If you take care of this briefcase, it will be an heirloom you will hand down to your children. Due to very fortunate timing, I was able to purchase it at 30% off list price, so it made a really great buy an exceedingly great buy! This briefcase comes very highly recommended by a cost-conscious consumer who buys only high quality products and at the right price! By far, one of my best purchases ever from L.L. Bean. You won't be disappointed.

This bag transcends being just a briefcase to being a fine piece of luggage. Very well made and extremely rugged.

I travel quite often for work and am very tough on my briefcases. A colleague of mine suggested that I look at L.L. Bean, because of the craftmanship and the guarantee. After much research on the site, I went with this bag because of the color and size. As others have mentioned earlier, this bag is somewhat heavy, although I don't feel like the weight is overwhelming. Actually, it gives me confidence in the potential longevity of the bag.
Without question, this is the most beautiful bag I've owned and it's shaping up to be the best.

This briefcase seems well made inside and out. Though I've only had it for a month it seems like it will last. Best feature: Internal compartments are lined with soft fabric. There is also a nice padded space for iPad or laptop. My only gripe is that the briefcase is heavier than you would expect, which may be an unavoidable consequence of the quality material and construction.
