Rated 4 out of 5 by atlarge Really good, but.....
I've had these for several months now. Nicely made and quite comfortable. However, I have a narrow foot (12.5 B) and, even with the heaviest of hiking boot sock on, and laced as tightly as possible, the boot still feels wide - doesn't wrap and support my foot as much as desired. (Seems to me that LLB would have a narrower width available, even if it had to be special ordered).
Depending on the conditions they are to be worn in, waterproofing is advisable as they soak water in like a sponge.
The laces are quite long, and I wound up cutting 4" off each side on each boot. And yes, one tongue has a tendency to slide to one side, but not obnoxiously so. The comment that a slit in the tongue through which the laces go, in order to stop that is well taken.

I've now owned and worn my Chukka's for about a year and I love them more now than the day I bought them. These things just rock! They are as, if not more, comfortable than my everyday tennis shoes. They are very well built and it is clear to see the care and attention to detail that goes into their construction. The only problem I have is that they probably won't ever wear out which makes it harder trying to find a reason to buy a second pair. I do wish they were offered in black though.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Boomur these boots
I have a lot of LLBean in my wardrobe & I got these to wear in the winter slush etc. but although I get compliments on how good they look, since the tongue isn't connected to the sides at all they don't keep water out any higher than the bottom shoelace eyelet: very nice looking but not functionally weatherproof in the slightest so-disappointing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Llewellin Extremely comfortable
Normally I wear shoes with custom insoles. These shoes/boots fit just right and were comfortable the first time and each time I have worn them since I received them. I wear a 9 EE and these are great. Thanks for having them made a bit wider, it would be nice to have some other shoes/boots that were at least EE's from LLB. I have not had the problems that others have had with the tongue or the laces. I tie them, give a bit of a yank and the knot stays tied all day.

Perhaps the most comfortable shoe I have worn, as well as attractive. Seem to run a little small. I had to re-order for a 1/2 size larger but LLBean made that very easy. I have ordered a second pair for back up.

by RD108 Great on ice and snow
These chukka's are very stable on ice and snow. We have had a lot of ice this winter and the softer shallower vibram like sole is the best of all my shoes.
The shoes are very comfortable right out of the box.
I did have trouble with the tongue sliding and exposing the uncomfortable thick laces and eyelets so I sliced the tongue in two places to thread the laces and this has kept the tongue in place. Maybe something to consider in future models.

Rated 5 out of 5 by draconiandave 4 th pair Bison Handsewns,
I have had 3 pairs Allagash Bison Handsewns. These are the best.
I went to get new laces, leather laces are awful, and got a shoe/boot compliment at the first store I went in, from a cobbler!
These like the loafers and probably all handsewn shoes are big and stretch. I wear a 12 in everything else. 11.5 is fine in all Allagash Bison Handsewns, at least for me. Tight for about 1 day. Beat these for $100, doubt it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by AKMark So far, so good
Got my boots yesterday and was immediately impressed by the quality. Great fit, supremely comfortable. Wore them outside on ice and, so far, good traction. The soles do seem a bit soft so I'll keep an eye out for wear, but love them so far!

The shoe (chukka), in both the standard and fleece lined versions, has a substantial reputation. It is well deserved.
After wearing the shoes several times I found that absence of some kind of tongue stabilizer forced both tongues to work their way toward the outside on both shoes, not providing the protection intended. I may have a more pronounced problem with this issue than most. I was able to remedy this by cutting two small slits in the tongue at a lace crossing to run the laces through. Problem solved. This issue is the reason for the four stars instead of five.

These fit perfect from the first wearing - no stiffness (no blisters!). They are great in the country or the streets of NYC.
