momofthreeinsc Would Have Been 5 Stars, But.....
When we received this jacket (bright navy size 8), I thought it was perfect--Just how it was described. Nice color, perfect size, just the right weight, really liked the fabric, BUT after very little use, the jacket split down the entire sleeve and the whole side, exposing the liner. Now it's useless and I feel like it was a waste of money :(

I ordered this jacket as a spring jacket for my 4.5 year old son. My son loves the jacket, it is comfy, warm but not hot and keeps him dry. Today it was pouring on our way to school, his pants were soaked up to his boots, but his head and shirt were dry. My son also loves to play in the mud, so far it has has washed up great, looks brand new after each wash. I does seem to run a bit smaller in size than other LL Bean jackets we own, but that hasn't been an issue for us.

After my 10 yr old son outgrow his first Casco Bay jacket size M, I bought same color(red/navy) size XL for replacement. It's works great and I love 3M Scotchlite? Reflective Material in the back.

Just bought this jacket for my 4 yr old son, and I love it! We had one last year that I had scored at a local second hand store "Other Mother's" so when he outgrew that I made a mental note to look for the same one brand new for this year. We could not be happier, the colors are perfect since my son's favorite is red at the moment, but used to be blue! I love the weight of this jacket, and the cotton lining! It's perfect for early Fall and late Spring! Fits great!

Bought this jacket 2 years ago for my son and he loved it. Now that he's out grown it, I went back to order the exact one only to find that the fabric and colors had changed and that some of the reviews weren't good. I was hesitant to try it, but couldn't find another decent fall/spring jacket from another brand. Just received it today and was surprised to see how much I liked the fabric. It didn't seem shabby, but actually less stiff and a pleasure to pack and carry. My only concern is if I should've bought the next size up from 6x-7 since my son is turning 7 in October and is in the 90th percentile for height. In anycase, I give it a Big Thumbs Up! Only request is for LL Bean to add more color combinations and bring back that dark blue and light blue combo we had last time that is still on other styles. Loved those colors together!
Also, I can only rate it as a 4 as my son hasn't worn it yet and we haven't seen how it holds up over time. The older one was amazing.

We went to Yellowstone this summer and packed this jacket as a rain coat. It held up to a 3 hour horseback ride out to a chuchwagon dinner in the rain. It not only kept my child warm but dry too! My older child had on a columbia waterproof mesh linded jacket and he was freezing and wet. We left in 75 degree sunny weather and ended up at 58 and wet. Needless to say this LLBean jacket was worth the money. Sorry I spent $50 on the Columbia. But LLBean sizes do run a little small in the jacket area. My 11 year old wore a size 18 so my 14 year old can't it's too small in arm length. I do have tall boys. Time will tell if this jacket stands up to Boy Scouts!

We live in The Netherlands where it rains A LOT. My son recently completed a 10 km walk with school in a total downpour. Not only did the jacket keep him warm but he was dry as well. We couldn't be happier with this jacket, now my two girls want one as well!

Rated 4 out of 5 by MaryMomof4 It's a decent jacket
We have purchased 4 of this jacket in the past and loved them, so I didn't hesitate to order the kids new ones in larger size. I didn't read the detailed item description and was suprised that the jackets had been "re-designed" this year. I don't like the new grey lining. I liked the old lining that was the same color of the jacket better. A minor cosmetic thing, and personal preferance, that will not affect the wear of the jacket. Overall the weight of the jacket is lighter and it packs smaller, which is a plus. Like another reviewer had said. The outer material seems like a downgrade from the ones of the past. Only time will tell if it will preform and last as well as previous versions. I also noticed that it seems to run smaller. My son wears a 10-12 in his ll bean rain jacket, and I had to exchange the 10-12 in this for the 14-16.

I have purchased several of these jackets over the past few years, and felt they were a very good value for the quality. Sadly, Bean has cut costs by using a new fabric, which has made for a flimsier jacket, with a cheaper feel. They did add a cotton liner to add "body" and some insulation, but honestly, I would pay more to get the old jacket again! I am keeping the jacket because it fits, and we need a spring jacket, but am sorry that Bean has reduced the quality.
