Rated 4 out of 5áby RonMexico Excellent budget reel
This is a well built click & pawl reel for the price. Only negative is the drag adjustment doesn't seem to add much resistance when maxed out, but it doesn't freewheel when on lowest setting so it works for me. I will buy at least 1 more to have on the shelf to pair with future rod purchases.

Nice, well made reel, perfect match for the Pocket Water rod. I couldn't be more pleased with it.

Exactly what I was looking for. No frills, modest price, retro style, small diameter, light and just something to hold the line and backing (which cost more than the reel). I fish small brookies in small waters.

For a beginning/semi-advanced fisherman, decent reel--gives solid performance. Value purchase.

This is a perfect reel for small stream fishing with 3-5wt rods. I love the look, fit and finish. Fished it one season and had no problems. It is light yet strong and seems like it will be quite durable. I bought a second one this year so I can have both of my 3 and 4 wt fiberglass rods ready to go. The reels would fit well with bamboo rods also. Overall a great deal for the price.

Rated 2 out of 5áby Banshee0728 Not enough drag control
Very pretty reel, but several things I didn't like which may be a personal preference. 1. Clicking sound both on line going out and reeling in. This is a Click and Pawl drag so one should expect it, but I don't like the continuous buzzing sound. It would be OK when the drag is working but not continuously. 2. The drag isn't sufficient in fighting a fish. I often catch 16-18 inch brown trout on a dry fly with 4 wt rod in current that requires using a drag (western rivers). The drag on this reel isn't sufficient to adjust to these conditions. Maybe fine on 10-12 inch fish. 3. The reel spool detaches with difficulty because of the way the reel is designed. This interferes with trying to retrieve the tippet if you reeled in the line all the way - which is how I usually start the day.

Bought this reel in conjunction with the 6'10" 4 wt pocketwater rod. The reel balances very well on the end, holds plenty of backing and line. Love the click and pawl design, very nostalgic sound and feel to it. With the 4 wt rod I don't expect to need the reel much, but has a smooth motion when reeling up line and nice drag when stripping more line out. Probably one of the better values on the market, especially with the 100% customer satisfaction LL Bean guarantees. Looking forward to many years with this reel.

Nicely crafted. Simple design, perfect. I do not get to fish a lot so when I do I need to be able to assemble my equipment and get fishing fast. I need reliable equipment and this and the 6'10" pocket water rod fit the bill.

Rated 5 out of 5áby IronwoodCountyBooks Great classic style reel
I was looking for a simple click and pawl reel for Midwestern trout fishing and, when I found this on sale, I snapped it up. For years I've used several drag reels for trout--and over those years never had to use the drag (beyond the minimum setting). I palm the reel when I have caught a bigger trout. This is all I need. I can't speak yet about the durability of the reel, but the design, weight, and function are perfect.
