They are basic, classic cargo shorts, but what makes them special is the fabric. It's very soft and light weight, but finely woven and substantial, not flimsy. The construction seems first rate. It's considerably lighter than the Allagash or chinos, and will be very comfortable on hot, humid days. I only wish these were offered in more colors. I also wish they came in a full pants version as well. In fact, I would love to see LL Bean use this same fabric in both cargo pants and regular non cargo style long pants for summer. I prefer these to the LL Bean tropic weight pants and shorts. The fabric is nicer. It's essentially a smooth cotton poplin. April 30, 2013

The 34 waist was a bit too snug to be comfortable, and the 36 waist shorts would have ended up around my ankles! Too bad there wasn't a 35 waist available. April 25, 2013
