Rated 5 out of 5 by Davebev Great for travel
These shorts are lightweight, fast drying, and double as a swim suit. Security pocket is a great feature. I wouldn't travel without them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by CaliTerminator Best Shorts EVER
I had high expectations for these shorts upon purchase and was not disappointed. I bought them for a trip to Australia during which I would be in urban settings, outback, desert, tropical rain forest, ocean activities ( swimming, snorkeling, etc ), beach, hiking, biking, trekking, boating, and more. I wore them almost exclusively although I had other shorts. These were great for every type of activity. My only regret is that I did not buy several more because they would be all I needed for any type of environment. I will definitely purchase several more pairs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by RMhiker Fit well
I had ordered and sent back the other Bean supplex shorts because I didn't like the fit, specifically the seam on the butt. Although these river shorts are considerably more expensive, the fit for me is perfect, and I also like the zipper in the crotch since I use these for hiking almost exclusively making it much easier to make a pitstop without having to remove my pack. When you're logging serious miles on the trail, as much comfort as you can get is optimum even it costs more to obtain it. Cheers!

Rated 4 out of 5 by JKLauderdale Almost perfect but not quite...
I love these shorts, let me just start with that. I bought a pair in red last Spring and absolutely love them. I wear them for my bike-swim rides and out on my SUP. They're comfortable, quick drying and can easily be worn from the bike to the bar for our pub-rides or to Starbucks for our weekly MTG sessions.
The only issue I have with them and the reason they don't get 5stars is the belt. It's a slide-operated belt and separates in both the washer and dryer every time. Not only does it sound like you've got a 5oz weight tumbling about in the dryer with your clothes but twice now it's tangled itself up with one of my shirts in the washer. Ironically I bought these specifically for the belt because I've had elastic fail too many times. I love the belt when riding but it's become a serious inconvenience when washing :(

Rated 3 out of 5 by soya great everything but no drawstring
Great fabric, cut, and pockets, but there's no drawstring! The web belt doesn't work as well as a drawstring does.

I couldn't be happier with the selection. Perfect fit and a great light weight short. I wear them every time I go fishing on my boat.

Rated 3 out of 5 by danimal1948 Pockets less than I'd hoped
Even though the lining is great and separates when you use the zipper to open the shorts, I lost my cellphone because the pockets are too shallow and the phone is too large for the zippered security pocket to comfortably fit into.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Boatman2 Great multipurpose short
Great for when you think you might get wet, paddled in them, ocean in them, boating. They fit great and have a traditional front with zipper. The mesh lining is finer than others. I like the zip pocket on the front leg, used it when paddling for keys and for kids stuff in the ocean.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Seafarer2 Swift River Shorts - Street smart and water ready!
Swift River Shorts act as a fine pair of street shorts and transition to water wear immediately. Quality throughout, ample pocket scheme. Sorry there was only one pair in my size!

Rated 3 out of 5 by Westwoodite Belt Clasp - El Cheapo! No good!
I have been buying from L.L. Bean for about thirty years and I don't think I would ever say that a product they sold was something that cut corners or was a cheap design. In fact, I think this is my first negative review. I have to caution buyers that the clasp on the belt on this pair of shorts is really bad! It is not the type that has a satisfying "click" and locks in place. It is just a plastic rectangle notch that fits into a space in the other buckle. It just doesn't stay together very well. The pants are fine, but the belt buckle is really a poor design. I would not buy another pair like these because of the belt buckle. Hey, L.L. Bean, please don't reduce the quality of your products! Change that belt buckle! Thanks!
